This review is for the restaurant's vendor booth at the PSU Saturday Farmer's Market. The first thing you'll notice is that the menu looks delicious. Staff is friendly. Prices are reasonable. The vegetarian samosas were okay, but I prefer mine crunchier and with more spices. I really enjoyed the fried plantains and have been back for them a couple of times. These are in large pieces with a creamy soft center and dark caramelized outside, firm enough to hold and eat with your hands (although very messy to do so). These come in a paper bag but this does soak through after a

I really hate to say this was mediocre at best, but unfortunately that's the truth. Had two plates at the farmers market today and was very disappointed. Rice was very bland and seemed a day or two old. Definitely not fresh. The veggies seemed like they were from a bag of frozen mixed veggies as they were also bland. The owner Wambui also was sadly unfriendly. She was very uninviting and if I followed my gut, we would left before purchasing any food. Again, it saddens me to write this, but $15 a plate for mediocre, bland tasteless food seemed like I overpaid a lot! Will not be

Super disappointing experience! :(
my partner and i were sooo excited to try this spot so we went over to their space. it was in the afternoon and the place was empty... like literally closed. lol we asked some people who were walking by and they let us know about the hawthorne street fair so we decided to check it out.
we parked in the neighborhood and walked thru the street of empty(ish) booths. after a few blocks we came across spice of africa's booth and were once again ecstatic to try. customer service was friendly but they ran out of lentils :/ so we got some extra vegetables.

We went to the PSU Farmers market this weekend and ate at their food cart. We have tried food here before and had enjoyed it previously. However, our experience this time could not have been worse.
The fried plantains tasted like motor oil, the rice was half- cooked, wraps did not have any sauce in them and were too dry to eat, samosa stuffing was ok but the outer cover was all burnt and tasted bitter.
Will never eat here again. There wasn't even one dish of the 5 items we ordered here that was worth the money.

The place is a part of an indoor food cart area. The owners are very personable. They also have stall in different Farmers Market. They have vegetarian and vegan options as well. My favorite was the samosa plate. The filling is really good even though the outer cover is a little oily. Also tried their curried cauliflower soup. It was very flavorful. You also get to peek at the cook with their traditional dress. This place has plexiglass to depart the tables to make the customers safe.

In Portland there is a lot of great Ethiopian food but it's hard finding Kenyan! Amazing samosas that were crisp on the outside and soft inside, the chapati was just like I remembered (and they gave us extra!) and the Kenyan platter had enough food for 2 people. The rice was perfect; not dry and they have many vegan/veggie options which was so nice. Highly recommend.

I had one of the best burgers ever here. I ordered the Moroccan lamb burger with fries and everything was sooo delicious! The burger was cooked perfectly and the fries had a great spice on it. The owners are also super nice and you can tell they are passionate about the food they make! Highly recommend this spot!

Chef Wambui at Spice of Africa is amazing!
I first went to her restaurant at the 10th street location and ordered a Kenyan taco. It's served on chapati, which is an East African flat bread that has a similar vibe to roti. It comes with meat, tomato chutney, veggie curry, spices, and balsamic and it's truly mouthwatering! Absolutely delicious and fresh and full of flavor.
I've also taken a virtual cooking class learning how to make East African samosas from Chef Wambui herself and it was not only a blast, but the samosas are addicting!
