Thornhill Pet Hospital was originally established in 1966 and has been serving the Bay Area ever since. Before this was an animal hospital, our building housed several different businesses. Our building has been drive-thru milk processing facility as well as a service station!

Services
In house ultrasonography performed by a board certified veterinary radiologist (by appointment). Soft tissue surgery including spay, neuter surgery and other types of soft tissue surgery. Thornhill Pet Hospital has an in house pet laboratory for pre-operative/pre-dental blood panels. We also work with commercial and veterinary school clinical laboratories.
Dr. Carlos M. Yang, owner and veterinarian in Oakland, CA at Thornhill Pet Hospital, was born in Peru and graduated from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos one of the oldest universities in South America. Dr. Yang attended Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in West Lafayette, Indiana before obtaining his California veterinary license.
Alicia is Dr. Yang's wife and our practice manager. She graduated in 1983 from the University of California at Berkeley with a Bachelor's Degree in Organismal Biology and is a proud 2011 graduate of John F. Kennedy University College of Law earning a J.D. degree. Alicia has over 30 years of experience in the animal care field and feels privileged to be able to help care for our patients.
Our commitment to the environment and environmental concerns can be seen throughout Thornhill Pet Hospital. We truly strive to be "green"! We have recycling bins at the front desk, in the veterinarian's office and in the treatment area. Client, patient and employee confidential information is picked up by a secure shredding company that shares our environmental commitment.

Dr. Yang and the team are quick to help and they really care about your pets. They have provided our cats with good care for a few years now and Dr. Yang always calls to follow up or answer questions. My husband and I rescued a litter of five sick kittens and they were able to fit us in so they had the care and meds they needed right away. Foster fail, we are keeping two of them:). We love Thornhill Pet Hospital!

I love Thornhill Pet Hospital! Dr. Yang is very nice and knows what he’s doing, great vet! He has helped my furry babies with a lot especially my senior dog when he got a herniated disc twice. My little guy is aggressive and Dr. Yang is kind and gentle towards my little monster. His wife, Alicia is super nice as well! The staff that I’ve met is very kind and professional as well. Overall I am very happy with them and have been going to Dr. Yang for almost a decade now.

Carlos and staff always go above and beyond the “standard.” Recently one of my cats had been attacked by a dog. Though she wasn’t physically harmed, she was so terrified that she wasn’t able to move. In the chaos I thought she’d run off, hiding. 8 hours later I heard a plaintive meow. I ran to the spot where she’d been attacked. She was in a spot where water collects in the basement. It was 4:56pm. I called and Alicia said to bring her. Alicia met us and took Lola in. At 10:00pm that Friday night, Dr Yang phoned us. Her body temperature was 84°. Normal would be 101°. I used to work as a vet tech many years ago, and as I lived in various cities, have had many different veterinarians. Of the half-dozen over the past several decades, Dr. Yang is my favorite, both because he has deep knowledge and continuing interest in veterinary medicine, and genuine compassion for animals.

I had 2 Chihuahua mixes before and brought them to Dr. Yang for both their vet care. He and his staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and professional and I felt comfortable with Dr. Yang's level of care. I now have a 3rd Chihuahua mix and will bring her to Dr. Yang again. I would recommend this veterinary practice for anyone looking for an honest and reasonably priced vet. They also don't try to sell you unnecessary pet food, medication, etc. and leave it up to you to decide if you want to purchase it from them or another online source. We have 6 dogs, all rescues. Dr. Yang has been a rock in our lives for almost 10 years!! from puppy shots, surgeries to heart meds for our oldest guy and everything else in-between. I would not trust another vet but Dr. Yang. His team- Alicia, Kristina & Oscar always accommodates us (aka "the zoo") sometimes all 6 at a time!! They are like family to us!! I cannot recommend Dr. Yang and his office enough! Everyone in the office is incredibly kind (both to animals and humans!). Dr. Yang is also always upfront about prices which is very helpful especially as we only adopt senior dogs and both work for nonprofits. Recently, we had to say goodbye to our beloved Koukie and Dr. Yang was so caring to her in her final moments and also gave us space to grieve. Dr. Yang is an excellent veterinarian with utmost skills and professionalism. Most preciously he truly loves and cares about his patients. Other than regular treatments he provides support and advice throughout the weekend on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, even Monday early morning hours before the hospital opens its door.

My previous vet retired. In looking for a new vet, Dr. Yang was highly recommended. Of concern to me was finding a doctor that was truly knowledgeable about epilepsy in dogs.
Dr. Yang in my experience knows about more treating this malady than the previous neurologists I took my dog to see with much better results.
The office staff is efficient, helpful, and very courteous. Another plus, the doctor and staff all are bilingual English/Spanish.

Dr Yang and his staff are the best- they pay attention to the important details- like explaining exactly what a procedure entails or how to administer medicine - how to make your pet better w/o trying to hook you into unnecessary expenses. They understood our worries about our pug having dental surgery and reported i. To us during the procedure to let us know all was going well... Dr Yang called us 2x to check in on Tiberius post surgery too- lots of in their vet care ....

Dr. Yang, Alicia and his team are absolutely kind, thoughtful, gentle, thorough but not invasive (they don't push unnecessary meds and procedures), attentive and just good hearted people all around.
I can't imagine what business owners are going through during COVID and such (and more this year..!!) I am so grateful he has kept the business open. I have been coming to Thornhill Pet Hospital for 2 years. Most recently, for my dog Shorty's Annual exam...
We were greeted warmly by the Staff and shown into an exam room. The Vet came in within a minute and treated Shorty with respect and compassion (she started by giving Shorty a treat!). She did a thorough exam and all the requisite tests. We were done in less than an hour and when I left the price was less than I'd expected --- it was very reasonable.
Convenient, nice staff, very welcoming, fair prices...what's not to like about that?

This is a terrific veterinary hospital! Dr. Yang is deeply knowledgeable and current in his practices and focus. He brings humanity and science together in a calm and professional environment. He took care of my 17-year-old dachshund and was there to put her down gently and lovingly when her end came. He is now the doctor for my 10 week old long-haired dachshund puppy who was happy to meet him...and we are all thrilled to be back in Dr. Yang's care! Recently my cats have had upper respiratory infections and I have needed supportive care for them. My cat has not been eating and he is struggling with breathing as well. I was referred to Thornhill Pet Hospital from a close friend.
So I called this morning and spoke to Alicia about the situation and she put me on the phone with Dr Yang. He listened to the issue and arranged for a visit the same day which I appreciated very much. He helped give my poor little guy some fluids and recommended treatments for him. If you're looking for an honest, kind, and knowledgeable vet, look no further than Dr. Yang! He is a true professional who genuinely cares about the animals he treats. My two 100+ lb dogs are new to Thornhill after their 8-year vet in San Ramon relocated (yes, I would commute to San Ramon from Oakland as I refused to continue seeing Montclair Vet...read RIP off). I wish I would've known about Thornhill & Dr. Yang sooner as I've had the best vet experience with them in six months than I have in the last 8 years with other vets. Highly recommend!

Dr. Yang is an excellent veterinarian! When I call with a concern or question about my dog Picasso he is always there to help and solve my concerns. Alicia is awesome and she is very helpful. All the staff is wonderful and caring. They all provide great support.
