We care about your pet's health and we are here to help. Please call, email or text us if you need assistance with care for your pet or a prescription refill. We believe great veterinary care shouldn't start and stop at our animal hospital doors. That's why we make it easy for you to reach out to your Oakland veterinarian on-the-go or from the comfort of home to connect with our team - seven days a week.
Furthermore, we provide extensive emergency vet during our regular hours and an after-hours calling service through GuardianVets which gives you needed emergency advice. Our doctors practice the highest standards of veterinary medicine and consistently deliver care you can count on. I can't say enough good things about the good people at Broadway Pet Hospital.

Services
Our veterinary staff all have unique skills and talents that come together to make our team exceptional. We love caring for the pets of Oakland every day, and we can't wait to get to know you and your pet better! Meet us online and make an appointment soon. From an early age, growing up in Amityville, New York, my parents instilled in me a love for animals as well as a strong work ethic.
At Broadway Pet Hospital, we're determined to give you and your pet an exceptional veterinary experience. For pets, that starts with reducing their fear and anxiety at veterinary visits. With over two-thirds of our staff being Fear Free Certified Professionals, there's no better place in Oakland to bring your pet for a less stressful experience.
At Broadway Pet Hospital, we want to see your pet live a long and happy life with you. That means we need to evaluate their ever-changing health on a regular basis. Pet wellness plans are recommended because they give us a chance to catch any underlying conditions early, so we can treat them faster, more efficiently, and more affordably, too.
Cat & dog vaccinations are an essential component of your pet's long-term health. They protect them from highly contagious and dangerous diseases that could put their lives at risk. At Broadway Pet Hospital, we administer the Ultra Duramune line of vaccines, the safest in existence, for cats and dogs.
Your pet's teeth are a surprisingly good indicator of their overall health and well-being. When their dental health suffers, it affects more than their mouths. Pain from dental disease can affect their behavior and even their ability to eat! Brushing your pet's teeth daily can have an enormous impact on their dental health, but it's not enough.

Broadway Pet Hospital was my go to vet for several years. They are fine for routine care, but if you have any sort of 'not an emergency, but still urgent' need - expect to wait weeks for an appointment.
The final straw for me was when my dog tore a ligament and required surgery. The vet was honest and said that it would be a 3-4 week wait before the surgeon could see my dog. I was instructed to call on a weekday to schedule a consultation appointment with the surgeon's assistant. Over the course of a few days I called three separate times in an attempt to schedule the consultation

We live an hour and a half one way but we would go anywhere else unless it was pet emergency. Even during the covid crisis, they found away to make you feel your buddies were getting the best treatments. We have been going here for decades and I would be amiss to the good life of my animals by not telling anyone why and where to go for their buds too. I know there are many pet hospitals just as good but AND this is a BIG BUT, there are none better than this one.

Overall, we are happy with the pet hospital. They have been very helpful in the past.
Unfortunately, they appear to have too many clients at the moment so we're considering making a move. Several of our cats are older, and when they need medical care, we don't want to have to sit on hold for 20 minutes only to be told there are no appointments for a week and a half. She'll either have gotten better on on her own or be dead in a week and a half. I pointed out that this was a dangerous condition to leave untreated for so long in a cat, the receptionist agreed. We asked if we could

Unfortunately the ability to actually to be seen when you do have an emergency is non existent. I would not even call this place a clinic for your pet anymore. They refer all emergencies to other facilities so what the point of even creating a file and a long term record if when its needed they shun you somewhere else. I suggest the many other facilities in the area.....

Sadly we are going to have to find a vet that can actually see our pets when they are unwell. This is the second time we've called to have our sick pug seen only to be told to make an appointment for weeks away. If you want a vet who can see your pet when they are sick and not just for well checks, this is apparently not the vet for you. Extremely disappointing after 10+ years of service.

I'll give them two stars for being nice and saying Joey is cute.
This was my 3rd visit here, first time in the building. The vet was nice but very vague about what is actually going on with the dog. Recommended several things without being clear what was absolutely essential even after I explained that I recently lost my job and could only afford to do essential treatment.
Dr. left and tech came in with suggested treatments ranging from totals of $300 to $600 and still no explanation of what would be absolutely essential to alleviate his issues and immediate discomfort. Food was recommended

Tl;dr satisfied with the quality of care for the basic services I've needed so far, but the prices seem quite high.
A few months ago, I found a stray cat and brought her to Broadway Pet Hospital to be scanned for a microchip. While there wasn't time for a full check-up, they took her into a private room right away, scanned for a chip (there was none; I adopted the cat permanently), weighed her, estimated her age, and applied a flea treatment, all free of charge. I scheduled the soonest available new patient appointment, about 3 weeks out.
The new patient appointment went well. The vet

A lot (although not all) of the negative reviews appear to be about their COVID-19 policy, which I don't think is fair. I am glad to be able to be able to be in the exam room with my cat again but I am thankful that Broadway Pet Hospital did the safest and best thing for their staff by having the curbside service and would support them reinstating that policy if necessary. I also love all the techs and receptionists at Broadway Pet Hospital and they deserve a raise. Henry is awesome and I hope is not too offended that my cat hissed at him. I have been feeling a little lost since our vet left

I took my dog in today because he had been limping that morning. He was put under sedation, even though he had already had a sedation tablet, given an xray, even though the doctor found no signs of broken bones, abrasions or punctures. And given oral antibiotics for what was diagnosed as "agitated hot spot"
The total bill was $645.....for a hot spot.
Then at around 7pm the veteranarian called me at me home and yelled at me because I had paid my bill and then mentioned to his vet tech. That I would likely not be bringing my animals to them Anymore.

We have been going to Broadway Pet Hospital for five years. I thought they were great until we really needed them. Our cat is dying of kidney failure. Our doctor kindly gave us options to make her last days comfortable and told us that when our cat's time came, she could be euthanized at the hospital, with one person present, or even from our car In the parking lot. The time came and at our emergency time of need Broadway Pet Hospital told us that neither option was actually possible. When we needed their help and care most they completely let us down during an incredibly stressful and emotional

I've been bringing my cat to BPH since moving to Oakland in 2014. He recently developed diabetes and because of the cost of visits, I decided to try another vet on a recommendation from a friend. I never felt the same level of care and competence that we got from BPH. When I call, the receptionists are knowledgeable and go out of their way to answer my questions.
Yes it is more expensive but the peace of mind is worth it to me. When you're leaving your baby in the hands of someone else you don't want to wonder if they are listening to you or know what they are doing.
Shout out

Now I have time to finish the review on behalf of my friend...
First visit December 19-
I sent list of issues for vet to check on Stella. I explained that Stella was injured in a raccoon fight and then running, and needed a thorough examination. I was deeply concerned about her skin, ear and legs.
Vet called me to talk, after she saw Stella, talked me out of the X-rays I requested, said to put Stella on 2 meds which she'd call into cvs or I could take anywhere I want, restrict Stella to bed rest, and bring her back in two weeks. Her leg may heal on its own.
I asked about the list. She admitted

My dog just had baby tooth extraction at Broadway pet hospital. The process was easy and clear and Momoko came back happy. I can tell that she had been taking care of very well there while she was there! In addition, they pull up with my extra request, trimming her nails while she is on sleep! Also, they decorated the bag with medicine with stickers. I loved the personal touch! Thank you for your great service during this pandemic time!

We have been well taken care of by Broadway Pet Hospital since 2016, when we moved into the area with our four doggies.
When Reba turned 17 (she was a Shiba Inu), her health really faltered and she was in pain just trying to stand up. When we put her to sleep, the compassion of the team there made our misery less terrible. We truly appreciated their empathy.
After adopting 4 Covid feral kittens, our brood grew to 3 dogs and 4 cats. Quite the circus around here!
Recently, one of our (now 8 month old) kittens grew a weird belly but his back was boney. I called Broadway and described the kitten

EXTORTION. Plain and simple.
TL;DR - They held my dog hostage until I gave them money.
I have been a client of BPH for a couple years now. My two dogs and I actually used to stop in once or twice a week just to say hi as we were also neighbors. Then with COVID came new procedures that had been in place a couple months before we had our first very awkward appointment. It was difficult because the new processes and flow that they had implemented still had some bugs that needed to be addressed. I wrote it off as just the same painful adaptation that we were all going through at the time.

I thought my dog had a horrible ear infection unlike any I've ever seen - per the vet - but it turned out to be a foxtail lodges into his ear that they didn't bother looking for. Completely ignored the endless pus coming from his ear and only prescribed a topical. I spent a LOT of money to treat this supposed ear infection. A whole month and new city later a new vet took the time and care to properly remove and treat my dog. Be sure to have all of the follow up questions with this place and don't let them overcharge you.

2 stars - they seem nice and professional, but disorganized and uncommunicative. Reliable pet care, but an unreliable customer experience.
Ok so, I'm writing this as I wait in the parking lot, it's my third visit here and we've never waited for less than 45 minutes between checking in and seeing the vet/nurse.
20 minutes deep into sitting here, I thought I'd drop a review while looking for a new place to take my dog.
I get that Covid is a problem, but the standards here are unacceptably lax. Long wait times, zero communication, and then they just hand the dog back without

I love this pet hospital. They have advanced technology and you can easily book an appointment online. You get reminders via text. They are really busy but also great at letting you know if there are cancellations if you're really looking for an appointment sooner rather than later.
They have a great selection of food both canned and dry. And they have a groomer on site. I go here yearly to take my cat for her check up. All of the vets have been top notch and I have really felt listened to.
They present you with a very clear estimate before doing anything and they go over it with you electronically
