Providence Veterinary Hospital & Clinic serve Alameda, CA as well as Oakland, San Leandro, and the surrounding areas with superb veterinary medicine and gentle, compassionate care. We've been a part of this community since 1947 when a veterinarian started seeing pets in his home after the end of World War II.
He built an animal hospital right under his house, and that's where we remain to this day (with modern remodeling in 2016, to outfit the hospital with the latest medical technology and equipment, of course!). We were the first animal hospital in Alameda, and are proud to still be a locally owned and independent practice.

We have a long history in Alameda. Our Hospital first opened in 1947 and we've been supporting the pet community here and in our surrounding cities of Oakland and San Leandro since. It's thanks to this community that we can do what we love day in and day out, and for that, we are dedicated to giving back!
At Providence Veterinary Hospital & Clinic, preventive care is a primary focus. Your pet's health can change quite a bit year to year, and annual (or semiannual) cat and dog exams help us stay on top of those changes and keep them healthy and happy for years to come.
Both our hospital in the East End of Alameda and our clinic in the West End are able to provide comprehensive wellness care to our area's pets, including those from Oakland and San Leandro.Plus, we're Cat Friendly Practices and our staff are Fear-Free Certified Professionals, so you and your pet will enjoy a less stressful vet visit!

At Providence Veterinary Hospital & Clinic, we strongly believe that preventing disease is far better for your pet than treating it after it's developed. That's why we put an emphasis on preventive medicine, which includes routine exams and vaccinations. Vaccines play a vital role in preventing diseases in the Alameda and greater Oakland pet communities that would otherwise cause life-limiting illness, or worse.
Your pet's teeth are essential to their overall health and well-being. Cats and dogs use their teeth for just about everything: eating, playing, grooming, even defending themselves! When they experience oral pain due to dental disease, it doesn't just affect their mouth; it diminishes their quality of life.

The veterinarians and technicians we have seen are caring, professional, and thorough. The person answering the phone chastised me for errors that were a result of poor communication on their end and was difficult to work with. It is an expensive clinic. The scheduling and timeliness is usually prompt. After the experiences with the front desk and the high costs, I will look for a new clinic for my pets.

Lady who answered the phone was super rude and condescending. I was at the wrong location and had to drive to the other one and she told me that she’d let the vet know and that it was okay and by the time I got there she canceled the appointment for a procedure my dog needed and tole me to drive all the way back to the original location an hour later and was just super rude every time I spoke to her in the phone. Wouldn’t recommend this location. The other location was great!

This is our first time welcoming a furry friend into our home, and we are learning all the new details about proper care. Our doggo, Basil received great care here at her first visit. We were offered helpful guidance, and a follow up care plan that was affordable.
The visit was simple. We drove up to the drop off parking spot, called and completed a quick intake process before handing over our pup (though now we are able to go in for the appointment). The staff is very friendly, and knowledgeable. We were called shortly after the drop off to work out a plan. Payments are available online. I don

Took my cat here once. The communication was very poor. I was sent multiple emails and called multiple times to fill out online paperwork which I had completed upon scheduling. They also forgot to go over their pandemic protocols prior to his appointment. I showed up and had to wait outside for 20 minutes before a vet tech came out- it would have been nice to get a heads up so that I could have brought a jacket and also not pay for parking. I was also not told that I would not be able to enter the facility with my cat. I was also astonished at how expensive this clinic was. They quoted me almost

They have taken wonderful care of my dog for four years now (have been driving an hour for the last year because I love them). We regularly see Dr. Rothstein who is very knowledgeable, kind, considerate, super professional, and great with my dog. I am moving away soon and know how difficult it will be to find another vet I'll feel this good about. I can't recommend them enough.
