Yamazushi Japanese Cuisine
We opened in March of 1986 with the mission to serve the most authentic Japanese cuisine in the Triangle. We strive to create a warm and peaceful environment in our small, intimate restaurant. We only serve a handful of patrons per night, allowing us to truly provide the best dining experience. We are delighted to feature the traditional Japanese dining, kaiseki.

Kaiseki is a multi-course dinner that features a variety of small, artful dishes, prepared only with fresh, in-season ingredients.
Services
Yamazushi offers Kaiseki-inspired multi-course dining, styled after the ancient Japanese tradition. The word "kaiseki" originates from the Zen monks of the 16th century, who kept warm stones (seki) in their kimono fold (kai) to help them ward off hunger during their morning and afternoon prayers.

Originally, kaiseki was a very simple vegetarian meal served during a tea ceremony, but it has evolved into a very intricate and ornate culinary event that may include fish and meat. The dishes are cooked in order to enhance the flavors of the fresh ingredients that are selected by season. Small portions are brought in one at a time at carefully timed intervals.

BEST RESTAURANT EVER!!! The food was expertly prepared, the plating was methodical and beautiful, and the hosts were kind and thoughtful. We have all of the courses, and a wonderful dessert that the chef starting making nearly 10 hours in advance of our reservation! We finished off the meal with some earthy and smooth matcha, and then left feeling very satisfied. My family and I had a wonderful time and can't wait to return. Thank you Yamazushi!

Very high ratings for communication, customer service, and quality.
From the second you enter the restaurant you feel as tho you are halfway around the world. You get lost in the food/decor. Every dish served was visually appealing, fresh, and tasty. This is a once in a lifetime experience and would recommend it. It is more of an experience than anything else.
Be prepared for a long wait to get a reservation and for smaller portions than most are accustomed to. The price is also high, but it's not a place you will eat at often and the experience is worth it.

One of the most interesting and unique dining experiences we've ever had. One of the most expensive as well, but considering they only seat 2 tables a night, it's not unreasonable. We loved that the chef made all of the dishware we ate off of. And his wife provided incredible service. Not something we can afford to do regularly but we'd love to try it again sometime.

What an experience! They are so nice and put so much thought into the process. The chef made all the plates (and I suspect lots of the decor too). You get to have a variety of Japanese food. The flavors are so delicate. Def worth the wait and is a gem!

Just wonderful. I’ve been to several kaiseki restaurants in NYC and Tokyo and this one compares favorably. The wagashi was maybe the best I’ve tasted. Go for the sake pairing, it’s worth it. Service is impeccable. Wonderful NC treasure.

Amazing dining experience with first-rate service in a tranquil environment. I would rate it A+ for following suggested covid protocols. We had an 8 course meal, authentic sake, dessert and received a small gift upon exiting. It's expensive, but worth every dollar. If you are unfamiliar with aspects of Japanese fine dining cuisine e.g. raw fish, squid, sushi etc.- this is perhaps not the best place for you to be adventurous. Again, it's expensive. To note, other items and proteins will be served such as diverse groupings of vegetables, shrimp, scallops, chicken, etc.

Fantastic service in a small, cozy setting. Food is stellar, if a bit expensive. The 2 hour long experience is one I will remember. Reservations are required, and you might have to wait months, but I’d say it was worth it. From the pottery, to the ambiance, and food - a unique experience.

Had a fantastic birthday dinner here with my wife. I felt like I was back in Tokyo. Food and sake were top notch and service was perfect. I even received a gift bottle when I left. I wish I would say I will be back but it is hard to get a seat there. Highly recommend.

It was an awesome experience eating at yamazushi. The decor, the atmosphere is very calming and soothing. All the sashimi is really good and melts in your mouth, but tempura could have been better considering the price point.
