We are very proud of these two students. Derrick "Professor" Reynolds on the left, just received his 3rd degree black-belt in jiu-jitsu, certified by Rickson Gracie and the Jiu Jitsu Global Federation. He's been part of our dojo for 26 years. Kim Jackson on the right, was one of our first black-belts in our our original karate dojo.
She is back after an eighteen year break to raise a family. She has been re-certified as a brown belt in the dojo. These are very dedicated martial artists and we are proud of them! Zanshin Dojo opened as a karate school in 1992 and in 1994 became the first Gracie "Brazilian" jiu-jitsu school in middle Tennessee.

Zanshin Dojo opened as a karate school in 1992 and in 1994 became the first Gracie "Brazilian" jiu-jitsu school in middle Tennessee. Many of our students have gone on to become world-class competitors and instructors. We focus on the highest quality martial arts techniques with applications for self-defense as well as tournament competition.
I have been studying Gracie Jiu-Jitsu at Zanshin Dojo for twelve and a half years. It has been a great way to stay in shape, relieve stress, learn self-defense, and have fun. I love the fact that the school maintains a good balance of self-defense and "tournament" jiu-jitsu. The school has a family friendly atmosphere where adults and their kids can train together and everyone is there to learn and improve.

Truly one of the most finest place to start your martial arts journey. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to take back abundant knowledge from every class as they teach you traditional Brazilian Jui jitsu which I believe- prepares you for life. I feel very grateful to be a part of the Rickson Gracie family. Kudos to our master Eric Silver, Hank, and other fighters who always push you to train well and stay grounded.

Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Value
Eric along with his instructors Hank & Derrick are by far the best in Middle TN for Jiu Jitsu and Karate over the last 30 years. Whether you want to learn self-defense or improve your competition skills, nobody else can offer this level of highly detailed instruction while providing a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for all.

The quality of the training in both jujitsu and karate is unmatched. Mr. Silver’s dedication to continuously improve these arts, his instructors, and students shows in each and every lesson. His dedication has been passed on to his instructors so no matter who you are training with you will be in the best possible learning environment. The dojo is great for individuals or families of all ages.

I really enjoy the teaching and the environment here. There are three black belts that teach, and their combined jiujitsu experience is over 60 years. It’s a great place to learn. The atmosphere is also really good, as all of the students are really friendly and more interested in helping each other get better than trying to hurt someone.

There is no other dojo in Tennessee like this. This is a more traditional Wado Ryu karate. They teach you in a way that if you do not understand learning it one way there are different analogies that will connect to it to help you better understand. They will use Japanese commands which not many of places use. The jujitsu here is incredibly. This place is very welcoming and like a second home to me. The instructors are very experienced. You will be truly working with the best of the best in Wado Ryu and Gracie jujitsu in the state of Tennessee or even the US.

I wrote a review years ago and I'm not sure where it is but it seems like Google has wiped all the old reviews and made Zanshin start from scratch. Anyway.... this is a top notch jiu jitsu dojo. Eric Silver was promoted to black belt by Rickson Gracie. Is there really anything else to say? This is drinking pure water over here. The instructors are great. The students are great. The techniques are like none other. If you want to learn really, really good self defence and jiu jitsu, please come here. I don' think you will regret it.
