Schuman-Liles Clinic
For almost thirty years the Schuman-Liles Clinic has provided quality outpatient psychiatric programs to serve Alameda County's demand for mental health care. We will continue to provide these services, but we cannot do it alone. We need the support of individuals and organizations that are willing to help the clinic meet its mission.

If you are interested in learning how to become involved with your community please contact at (510) 569-9334 or fax: (510) 569-9309 or e-mail at admin@schuman-liles.org. Our Mission at the Schuman-Liles Clinic is helping chronically mentally ill persons learn to manage symptoms of their illnesses so they can lead more active and satisfying lives in their community.?
Services
Schuman-Liles Clinic, with an office in the in Oakland one block from the 580 (MacArthur) Freeway at the San Leandro border, is recruiting residents to work on Saturday's and evenings. This is a great opportunity to learn and practice brief-session medication management of chronically ill outpatients.
One of the most natural things that an individual does every day is to walk. For years, this single act has been linked to improving cardiovascular health. The reason is because, generally, walking is a safe movement that isn't likely to cause injury. New studies have shown that walking is also a terrific way to improve your mood.

Cancelled my appointment I drove 150 miles for 4 hours before the session after waiting over two weeks for the appointment didn't offer me any sort of other options except I could have another appointment in a month and a half and then the girl was very rude to me. If you need help I would not recommend this place as they are not professional do not answer their phone and really did not offer me a whole lot except a lot of hot air! Not a professional operation considering they're dealing with people that need help

Terrible. I Asked my primary care provider about ADHD and was referred here. Long story here but you may have a similar experience. Took 10 months to get help with ADHD while I'm starting graduate school

Starting August 2020 I sent my referral and could not get ahold of anybody there. A month passes by after leaving a message or two a week and I finally get ahold of somebody. I get scheduled but my referral expired so I had to reschedule. Finally get an appointment because I showed some frustration and the doctor was nice. I follow his steps to monitor my habits and several months go by and

Schuman and Liles is one of the best clinics out there. I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 cuz they need more help with people answering their telephones. Anna is one of the receptions up there I say you give her a raise. She's very friendly professional and well-spoken. These people have worked on the front lines during this whole pandemic I don't think we're giving them credit.. We always see the downside let's think about all the people they have to deal with all different walks of life...

To start, the location is filthy. If it were a restaurant it would fail inspection. Dirty, grimy, floors are gross. The last place you want to be in a pandemic. They are not trying to make their location safe for patients. Customer service is horrible. They always out you on hold but when you're in the office you can see that they're just messing around and leaving people hanging. They closed early twice before I could pick up medication. I had to talk through the mail slot to get someone to come help me. They tried to shoo me off before they noticed I was filming the interaction. I never

This is far the worst clinic ever, from staff down to their psychiatrists. I am nurse who tries to get hold of them on behalf of our patient....from day 1 up until now, we haven't come up with a concrete plan because there's no way you would be able to communicate with them. Pls, stay away on making an appointment with this clinic.

17 years or more. This is the only place I have been to as a patient for my illness. It’s not an easy task at times. The staff treat you with patience and respect. My medications are always filled fast and they see me quickly if I accidentally miss an appointment. I pray they will never close and same therapist will be here to help me through many more years to come.🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

I was treated by Dr. Liles from 2001-2003. And every day for those two years, Dr. Liles lobbied for me, ultimately succeeding in getting me Social Security Disability in 2003. He would simply give me the medicines for free and I paid a sliding scale fee of $5. He did more for me than I ever could have imagined. I know the clinic itself is far from ideal but Liles himself is an amazing, selfless, intelligent human being with a great amount of sincere integrity. In 2013, I stopped the SSDI. But Dr. Liles began the journey that eventually lead me to genuine recovery that otherwise would have severely

Took a paralyzed schizophrenic client who is incontinent and wheelchair bound. Called a day before to ask wait time for walk ins and was told l it just depends." Was first in line before they opened for a walk-in appointment and waited 4 hours despite asking multiple times when our turn was. Was told your next multiple times. At least give an honest time period as the client needs changing and feeding!

I am giving this clinic ****only because of their wait time in scheduling, I believe that your appointment should be your appointment. People have lives, jobs things to do other than wait! In the checked in waiting areas where there is carpet they could use a good steaming ,they have very soiled carpets, pretty gross to look at, The staff there is friendly, for the most part, I have a good doctor he listens, and truly want to help you get better👌🏾, I do wish there was one on one services offered as well. I can say since I have been going there and taking my prescription medicine I have been

I have been in healthcare for a long while now and in working in community-based health care in the Bay Area you become familiar with the different offices and how they operate. I have been empathetic to some of my patients when they tell me that they do not get the services that they need in a timely manner at this office. But now it is personal my mom ended up being a patient of this office when she fell on hard times and she told me she was now a patient of this office and I cringed and for good reason. This place is a Medical-Cal (Medicaid) hub for mental health. Unfortunately, this is most

Be careful with "walk-in" appointments.
Don't even bother. I learned the hard way today, I was late for work, they make it seem like "yes, just walk in" is simple but I got here at eight am, I was the fifth walk in patient.

I kept asking "when is it my turn?" And I kept getting the "oh, you're the third"
Then I would go back and then the nurse would tell me "oh, you're the 5th now.."

So basically it doesn't matter how long you've been waiting or how early you get up, you get shoved back if people with appointments show

I'm very sorry if your love one needs to go to this clinic for any mental health issues. If you can afford to go elsewhere then save yourselves some grief and do so.

Our family member has some heavy PTSD issues to cope with and needed to be admitted to John George on a 5250 by the police. We reached out to his psychiatrist to help plan out the next treatment steps and they never bother answering any form of communication. No answered phone calls or emails. Geez, it's 2017 and we are actually faxing them daily to try to get some help for our loved one. Even a courtesy "we can

No I'm not wishy-washy! Amber, the wonderful now Admisistrator has called me and made things right. She was our go to person for so many years and when she disappeared from the front desk, I thought she had moved on. Nope! She's still in the office, but not up front.
Hallelujah! We talked, I told her our story and she listened. Amber also gave me hope and a plan of action. We should not have any more trouble at the front desk level and I'm pretty positive that we'll be able to continue to take our loved one there for treatment. I don't know about the phone lines

I moved here to the bay area almost 3years ago. I started going to schuman liles clinic since 2014. I had excellent Doctors front desk receotion has been great. My only issue has been that my prescription was changed by staff member who is in charge. My prescription daily intake was changed incorrectly. Have not been able to have them change back to correct dose. If i take the needed medication i will run out in the middle of the month and insurance will not cover the rest. So please when they give you your prescription info do check and make sure you have correct milligrams on prescriptions. I

I am a Service Coordinator who works with a patient who uses the Oakland clinic. He needs a document signed by his Dr. so that he can access a much needed service. The client has had trouble negotiating getting this signature on his own. I have tried to call the Oak and Fremont clinics many times. All prompted lines only ring and ring. This has happened at all times of day for several days. None of the web pages open up due to some kind of ERROR message. What is going on with this place of business??? What is happening with the mental health service provision to these patients? At this point I

Dr. Liles is truly a rare and beautiful human being who has dedicated his life to helping Low income people who need mental health services.

The office may not be state of the art and the building may need some maintenance but it the love and caring of Dr. Liles that keeps his place open for those in need.

Although a doctor with his experience and skill and empathy could be earning much more in the high-end clinic somewhere in a fancy pants neighborhood he has chosen to work here as his life calling.

Even through rough financial times and his own health issues he continues to be available

Okay, this is a bit lengthy for my typical reviews, but there are important factors to consider prior to setting up your appointment. Please consider and review the pro's and con's below.

I have to be honest, my first few experiences with this clinic were absolutely terrible! The first two doctors simply sat down with me and explained how challenging their jobs were, then told me that my medical condition was one that was manageable, and I left without medication. With that said, that sent me straight to detox when you're forced into that situation like that.

After about a week

I was referred to Schuman-Liles Clinic by the good folks down at Sausal Creek Outpatient Center. Everything Nobbi says is true, but I'm happy enough with my experience to throw in my two cents.

First of all, plan to go in and fill out a mess of paperwork before you can get an appointment. It's just part of the deal: they have to have it, so you have to do it. My advice would be to go in as early as you can manage on a day that you have off, just for the task of filling out the paperwork alone, then work out an appointment from there. (Note: If you're not able to get an appointment
