Our mission is to introduce you to the healthy and enjoyable sport of recumbent cycling and to provide recumbent buyers with exceptional service and the best possible choices in recumbent bikes and accessories. Recumbents are a pleasure to ride. You sit slightly reclined, back fully-supported, arms relaxed, neck straight; in a normal sitting position.
Compare this with the contorted riding position on a diamond frame bike. Even after a long day of touring, you're still riding in comfort. No more stiff neck, aching back, numb hands or crotch. No straining either. A combination of lower mountain bike gears with higher road bike ranges ensures the correct gear ratio for any terrain.

Services
What IS that thing? Well, it's called a 'recumbent' bicycle. The word recumbent refers to the seated position; many enthusiasts have also taken to calling them 'bents.' They usually have two wheels although some have three. They are most often powered by pedaling with your legs, but some bents are hand powered, some are both hand and foot powered.

I went in for new brake pads on a 9 year old bike that was dependable but nothing special. Basically my bike felt like a Toyota Corolla. I have no idea what happened while they were fixing it, but it came out feeling like I had upgraded to a BMV, and all of a sudden I can keep up with my husband for the first time ever. I'm never taking my bike anywhere else. Wow. As an aside- the owner noticed my toddler had a runny nose when I first went in and when I went back to pick up my bike asked how his cold was... the customer service was on point.

I have know owned my Catrike 559 for about 9 months. Purchased it from Recumbent PDX last December. Upgraded it early this year with the Bosch electric assist. It is rare in our society that one can state that the experience of doing the research, talking with Mel about the right bike for me, going for a test ride, purchasing the trike, upgrading the trike and ENJOYING the trike has been so spectacularly wonderful. The folks at Recumbent PDX are special. I have never been so happy about a purchase. I am riding many times a week, with a smile the whole time. BTW. The electric assist actually challenges

I have been going here for the last few years while living in Santa Monica. My wife and I have 4 bikes and we have had a wide range of repairs needed over the years. Today we went in and met with Jorge and he took the time to show me how to detect a tire leak and also showed me how to change it. Now, in all honesty I am probably not going to change a tube myself ever but it was very cool to learn how to do so. This is just a cool little example of what a great shop this is. I highly recommend this place for all types of repairs, small or large. Service and prices wont be beat on the westside.

I purchased a bike from RecumbentPdx. The whole experience was very positive.
On going in, I was ready for the bike experience, thinking that I knew enough and all I had to do was start riding. It's been 25 years since I rode a two wheeler. Janet and Mel were prepared to take the time necessary to help me understand the differences between two wheel and three wheel.
This was truly great, on leaving, I was prepared for some more learning experience while I applied the ideas that Janet and Mel shared with me, and I watched for those possible safety hazards that are unique to three wheelers.

Quick and efficient repair on my bike. My front derailleur cable snapped yesterday and needed it removed and replaced. Called beforehand to make sure if they had time and confirmed they did. Said it should take an hour at most. Went and got coffee at the cafe next door and an hour later came back and it was in great working order and shifting smoothly again (in addition to cleaning up a frayed cable end I've been meaning to fix for years). All for a very reasonable price.

Bought a Catrike Expedition about a month ago from these guys and am very happy with the purchase. It works great and I got a good price. Since I am from the east side of Washington, we have real problems with tire punctures due to thorns, and without my even asking for it, they installed puncture-resistant tubes on my bike. Just today, I plucked out about 10 thorns during my ride, but did not lose any air. Am very grateful.

Amazing friendly knowledgeable service.
My husband and I bought a couple Catrike recumbent trikes from Recumbent PDX in Portland. Janet educated us on the trikes and what we could expect when riding them. She was so knowledgeable about each specific model.
The service was amazing. Even though they were quite busy, they treated us like we were their only customers - making us feel welcome providing answers to our many questions.
When we picked up our trikes (they build them right in the shop), one of the techs walked us through every part of them and how to handle the mechanics. Again, super

BEST SHOP ON THE WESTSIDE!
I have had numerous issues with a few bikes recently, and not only are they honest and upfront with the work and pricing, but they are FAST!
I've taken bikes to other local shops in the past, but they have usually been expensive, and I've been forced to wait days for the work to be completed. Not here. The work is usually completed within the same day (if dropped off early) for an incredibly reasonable price.
I can't say enough good things about this place and their staff. It's encouraging to find a store that values their customers and treats

I live in Montana and decided to drive all the way to Portland (nearest dealer) for my Cattrike Trail after much research. I was able to make an appointment during off-hours and the the staff was friendly and helpful in accommodating my travel schedule.
Once at the shop, they gave me the time to test drive the trike and went over all the possible options to make sure I was comfortable with the purchase. They customized the bike to my physical needs, including altering it for hilly terrain, coached me on how safety issues, and a couple days later I was back on the road with a new bright-yellow

My wife didn't learn to ride a bicycle as a child and wasn't confident riding her regular bike on city streets. The staff was very helpful in helping her test different recumbent bike options and select the best one for her needs, and spent the time to ensure it was well fitted for her. I even took my first spin in a recumbent, and was surprised at how much I liked it. I highly recommend this family-owned shop.

I had a problem with my bike. I couldn't change the petals from clip list to my platforms. The panel branch wasn't working and I was really struggling. I went at first to a different bike store who wouldn't give me the time of day. I came here and Jorge took five minutes as a specialized tools and did the job for me. I offered to pay and he said, no thank you.

Went to get my disc brakes bled on my road bike and they did a great job! Got it back to me in less than 24 hours (other shops were quoting me at least a few days), and charged me a very reasonable price ($45/brake).
Jorge was super knowledgeable and gave me a few tips about how to maintain my bike.
This will be my go to bike shop for all repairs in the future

I dropped off my bike here and got the work i wanted done in a very reasonable amount of time. The only reason Im not leaving them 5 stars is for the following.
After getting home with my bike i realized that the $150 headset that i purchased seemed worn out and the letters around it seemed corroded. I decided to call the shop and see if they had an explanation. Within seconds of me bringing it up the mechanic says dont worry come back and ill give you a discount. For the little effort he took to defend his position I can only imagine that this was a take off part that he had laying around, and

My husband and I traveled to Portland from Southern Oregon in October, 2020 for an appointment at RecumbentPDX to educate ourselves about the best trike for me and my special needs. I intentionally delayed writing this review until after I had used the bike for a while in the event that I didn't like it or I had problems with it so that this review has relevance. I have Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS) and had been riding an older trike that was heavy and becoming too big for me to navigate. Mel and Janet made this experience and adventure! Mel spoiled us with his delicious mochas and energy bars
