Our journey began with the origin of our name- CHEVAL, which translates to "horse" in French. The owners, Donna and Dr. Randy Kaufman, were originally looking for a property for their champion show horses and stumbled upon this breath-taking location. They fell in love with the estate that just happened to come with a winery!
Saddle up for this one! Named after the owner's son, authentically made MAVERICK Sangiovese is a blend of our finest varietals. With hints of blackberry & dry cocoa, this blend provides aromas of cherry cola, espresso & red licorice. The perfect balance of structure & acidity. Round up some friends & come taste some of Cheval's most talked about wines at our Tipsy Barrel Tasting Room.

What the heck just happened? We’ve lived in the area for years and didn’t know about this place. My wife had parents watch the kids yesterday so she could sneak me out for some wine for my birthday. When we pulled in I was a bit skeptical. A winery in Escondido?? So we went in. It was nice inside and the people were very friendly. We did a $15 tasting which normally gives 4 tastings but since they were out of some wines they added a 5th.
First was an unfiltered Chardonnay that was good.
Ok...this place is pretty nice.
Second was a Sangiovese rosé. It was awesome! Chilled perfectly. Tasted
