We've been born and raised here, and we work hard here; that history and tradition is directly reflected in the quality of the wines we produce. Peninsula Cellars is a family run winery located on the Old Mission Peninsula, just north of Traverse City, Michigan. The region lies along the 45th parallel, halfway between the north pole and the equator.
This gives the region its distinct micro-climate, that makes it perfect for growing high quality wine grapes. Our philosophy toward wine making has always been very minimalistic, allowing the regional expression of the fruit to come through. The sun, the rain, the wind, and the soil, all under the watchful eye of the grower, are what make our wines so good.

Our tasting room is a converted one room schoolhouse which was built around 1896. The Maple Grove School retains its original windows, floor, slate boards and bell. The building was utilized until the mid 1950's, when the schools consolidated with the Traverse City Public School system. The building sat vacant for a few years until it was purchased by a local artist who used it as a studio.
Dave and Joan Kroupa are the founders of Peninsula Cellars. Lifelong cherry farmers, Dave and Joan saw the potential of diversifying their fruit farming operation, and planted vineyards and began planning a winery in 1991. In 1994, their first vintage as Peninsula Cellars was released. Dave represents the fifth generation to have worked on the family farm and business.
The Honor Roll is more than a wine club, it's becoming a rich part of the family history that is the foundation of Peninsula Cellars. Peninsula Cellars invites you to be part of our family by joining the Honor Roll Wine Club. Choose which club you'd like to join, and enjoy your Peninsula Cellars favorites with friends and family throughout the year in the comfort of your own home.
Due to licensing restrictions, pets are not permitted on the patio or inside the building. Pets on a leash are welcome in the vineyard seating area. Please clean up after your pets should they make a mess. Our patio has been arranged to allow for the permitted occupancy allowed by law and spaced appropriately.
The Kroupa family has been farming on Old Mission Peninsula for over one-hundred years. What began as a way to survive by farming fruit on Old Mission, has become our way of life. Owner and winemaker John Kroupa, is the sixth-generation to farm the land just like his ancestors did before him. Each Peninsula Cellars wine is made from grapes grown right here on Old Mission Peninsula.

I booked a reservation Thanksgiving weekend. We have never been to any of the wineries/vineyards on OMP. Peninsula Cellars did not disappoint. On check in we were greeted by Steve, who made sure we were taken care of our entire visit. He told us about this history of Peninsula Cellars and helped us choose wines to our tasting. The winery is very charming, warm and inviting. I highly recommend for anyone visiting the area to stop by! The other wineries we visited just did not compare.
Steve, thank you for your hospitality! It definitely left a lasting impression on me and my fiancé.

We stopped here on a whim on the way back from Mission Point Lighthouse. Of the five cideries we stopped at during our vacation, this was at the top. We shared a flight of four ciders (cinnamon, cherry habanero, cider mojito, and strawberry) and each had an apple pie slushie. Our favorite after the slushie, was the cinnamon. Everything was phenomenal. We could have spent the entire afternoon doing flights, as their large selection of wines looked awesome too. It is set in an old school house with outdoor seating only. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We'd return often if we lived in the state

I just ADORE this place so much!
I have an obsession with old schoolhouses and this one did not leave me disappointed. The original one-room schoolhouse charm (complete with the original blackboards) was abundant while still being the perfect place for a tasting room. My husband and I each got a flight of 4 wines to try. I am more of a sweet wine lover and there were plenty of wines for me to choose from. The girl working the counter (I wish I could remember her name) was able to circle the sweet wines on the menu and offered recommendations to assist me in my decisions. The names of some of the

The tasting room is based in a redesigned old school house. Peninsula cellars offers delicious selection of wine with titles that have all school based themes. For only a dollar per tasting try at least 10. The newest is a light sweet white called summer vacation which is perfect for a summer afternoon.
