For over a year now, the pandemic has forced our community to practice online. The plan was to transition to in-person classes shortly. However, I've been given some great news that will pause our plan of a 'live' reopening. I've been admitted into a program at the Rolf Institute in Boulder, CO. The course runs through December - so that means AYSDC must remain exclusively online until the the new year.
Beginning next week you'll see a reduction in classes and a few changes in our schedule. My tentative plan is to resume teaching online Monday and Wednesday evenings by the middle of June. From the beginning, the Ashtanga Yoga Studio has held the simple refrain 'anyone can practice' as a core principle.

Services
Although the studio formally opened in 2012, the core group of teachers has taught and practiced together for nearly 20 years. The combination of experience and knowledge is remarkable. Each teacher lends their own unique voice to the practice. The varying perspectives and styles compliment each other-making it easier for students to grow year after year.
The best place to book is via the AYSDC home page or schedule page. Yes, it's possible to book via the MINDBODY app but the process is more seamless if if you book from our site. Yes, everyone that had a pre-existing package from Mindbody Online, they will be automatically transferred to your account in Ribbon.

Ashtanga Yoga Studio DC is a great place to practice and learn ashtanga yoga. It is a very welcoming, communal space that is conveniently located near Sibley Hospital in DC. There are a variety of classes for all levels. I have been going to classes at AYSDC for several years and particularly enjoy being able to attend daily Mysore classes, as well as the led classes. Keith Moore, who is the owner, creates a warm and inclusive atmosphere for beginners like me, and he has variety of loyal students at all levels. The other teachers are great too and I look forward to taking their classes when my

Keith Moore's yoga studio is a light-filled, cozy space. Class size does not exceed 15 students, therefore each student receives ample attention. Keith and his fellow teachers are skilled at teaching traditional poses as well as modifying those poses for injuries or other limitations. Everybody is made to feel welcome as soon as they walk in the door. I practiced for years at many yoga studios throughout the region, but it was when I started taking classes with Keith that I found my yoga home. He is a calm, steady, and exceptional teacher who provides the space for the student to make discoveries

I've been a longtime student of Keith's and can't recommend him enough. I love Ashtanga yoga, and he is an excellent teacher whether you are a beginner or advanced student. That said, I enjoy and recommend all the teachers at the studio and learn something new from each one of them all the time. P.S. Parking is very easy, and I never have to look, which is a big plus.

I've practiced yoga for many years but never have I been in a more warm-hearted studio filled with such genuine people. I've rediscovered my love for yoga, newly discovered a love for Ashtanga style yoga and happily wake up every morning in time to start practicing at 5:30am. The teachers are kind and give amazing adjusts - they know when to push you and when to back off and, impressively, can work with every student at every level in a single class. It is a challenging practice to be sure, but a challenge I look forward to every morning, even on the days when I struggle. If you're even mildly

It's an amazing place to do Yoga and make friends. I started August 2015 and fell in love with the studio and Keith, owner and instructor. I was a beginner and Keith welcomed me with open arms, walking me through every step of learning Ashtanga Yoga. The classes are always fun and easy to follow for a beginner and challenging enough for advanced yogis. I have taken my mom, husband, sister and many friends, even my 10 year old son and they all really enjoyed it. I have personally improved my overall health and have toned my body. I highly recommend it to anyone, beginner or super yogi, to join this

AYC is the real deal. You can count on consistently excellent, authentic yoga practice every day (or as often as you can get there). Keith will change the way you think about yoga and yourself without ever being intimidating, new age-y, or dull. Yoga class at AYC is reliably the best hour of my day.

I am an advanced practice ashtangi and Keith was my ashtanga teacher for years, starting in 2001when I was a brand new yogi. He is one of the most compassionate and understanding humans and teachers that I have ever encountered. His depth of knowledge in yoga, anatomy and the human body is truly impressive and I can’t say enough about how much he has helped and encouraged me over the years. I remember after I had my daughter and I was trying to find the time to go back to yoga he had me bring her to the studio and if she got fussy he would pick her up and walk with her for as long as it took

I am a newbie to Ashtanga and I am so thrilled to be in this studio. Keith has been so welcoming and made me feel right at home from day one. He was super accommodating with having a new student and always guided me through whenever I did not remember the pose. He is excellent with adjustments and motivates you to be better. I am thrilled with my progress so far. This is my new go to studio, I would highly recommend it!!

As part of my ClassPass journey exploring DC area studios to find my "forever home", I came across Ashtanga Yoga Studio. And, in the spirit of all things new in the new year, I signed up for a 75 minute meditation class. Worried I needed to be an advanced student or know something in advance, I reached out to Keith who was kind enough to let me know all I needed to bring was myself and that beginners were welcome.
So, on Sunday I ventured to Ashanga not really knowing what to expect....would we sit in silence for an hour? Would we chant? Would I feel like a loser beginner? Well, as

I recently embarked upon a journey to find one or two really good yoga studios to study in. I had been practicing Barre exercises for a while. Enjoyed them at the time but realized that yoga was my favorite part of those classes. With that in mind, I decided to simply try a yoga class as opposed to semi yoga.
This is my third and final studio that I chose to visit. Here at Ashtanga Studio, I attended a class taught by Janet Walkoe. She was subbing for another teacher but I plan to follow her to her own classes that she teaches over the weekend.

I agree with all the postive reviews on this site. I took the Beginner's Workshop last night and Wendy and Rebecca were so patient, so articulate and I learnt a huge amount. They were very generous with their time. By way of background I have some yoga experience but wanted to understand more about the breathing and background to the poses - to get it right and do it properly. The Studio has a lovely feel to it.

I took the introductory series at the old Ashtanga Yoga Center in Tenleytown, then instead of continuing at the AYC I spent a couple years taking yoga classes closer to home, just out of convenience. I recently decided to give Ashtanga another try and went back to the AYC's successor in Palisades, the Ashtanga Yoga Studio. I'm really glad I did. I forgot how much I enjoy the Ashtanga practice, and how much I really like Keith Moore's manner: no-nonsense, gentle, witty, but focused and professional.

This yoga studio is one of the most thoughtful, enriching places I have ever been. I am not a "yogi" by any stretch of the imagination - I've tried yoga here and there, and enjoy it a lot, but am not an advanced practitioner. I love this place because it is a peaceful, focused, friendly, "no attitude" place. You will not spend your time chanting "om" endlessly or getting slathered with special oils. Rather you will focus energetically and joyfully on practicing yoga at a level that is comfortable for you and completely without the attitude and intimidation factor

Ashtanga Yoga Studio, D.C. (AYS) is a bright, airy, peaceful spot in the Palisades neighborhood of Washington. Along with a variety of classes, the studio offers daily Mysore--the traditional individual practice in a group setting, as developed at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore, India. Keith Moore, the studio's founder, and the other two Mysore teachers--June Lee and Wendy McGrath--are terrific: smart, knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, respectful, irreverent, and not the least bit sanctimonious.

Great space & great instructors! Signed up for the beginer's workshop & it went wonderfully. I have back problems and Keith and Wendy helped me modify poses to protect my back, yet still challenge myself. The space is not too big, so you can't just disappear in the crowd, like my previous yoga experience. I will definitely make this a regular addition to my schedule!
