The Center For Men's Excellence
Therapists at the Center for Men's Excellence, founded by Dr. Dan Singley, work with clients who seek to improve their quality of life, with a particular focus on men, couples, families and new parenthood.

Our clinicians also include Dr. John Rettger, who is an expert in family therapy and therapy with children aged 8 and up; and Dr. Jonathan Marquez who specializes in using evidence-based practices with men and fathers with an emphasis on health psychology, which aims to strengthen the mind-body connection with techniques including biofeedback therapy to provide his clients with a holistic and individualized approach.
Services
Our psychologists specialize in providing patients with strategic, focused, science-based psychotherapy treatment in a supportive environment. Our psychologists therapeutic approach gives patients the tools they need to manage their own lives more successfully in an ongoing way rather than attending weekly therapy sessions year after year.
The American Psychological Association (APA) approved biofeedback as a treatment proficiency in 2019. Biofeedback is a training method that can help you become more aware of the effects of stress and tension on your body. It allows you to consciously change and control your body's biological functions which are normally involuntary.
Any couple can improve their relationship by taking focused time to learn more about themselves as individuals and how to be a more engaged, productive partner. Over the course of any relationship, the people involved inevitably experience highs and lows related to sharing their lives with each other.
Our psychologists have facilitated men's groups for a number of years, and the experience is one in which participants treat the group as a kind of "social laboratory" in which to try out some new behaviors and ways of interacting with others. All of the members are males who are interested in working on some type of issue such as depression, anxiety, stress, relationship concerns, social isolation - and who want to get support as they do so.
Expectant fathers enjoy an informal, hands-on class that provides practical information and a real boost of confidence about handling the baby's impending arrival. Participants connect with other expectant dads, and also have the opportunity to talk with a "veteran dad" who has been through the class and brings his infant with him to the class.

Took Dr. Singley and Dr. Marquez Expectant Dads Class and loved it. They went over everything from changing diapers, to suggestions for your hospital bag, swaddling, having a birth plan, interviewing pediatricians, etc.... tons of helpful and useful information for new dads. One of my favorite things about the class was going over questions that you would want to discuss with your partner, basically a "postpartum game plan", it was super helpful because there were a bunch of questions that I didn't even think to ask or consider.

The class was more than what I expected. Highly

Daniel and Jonathan did a great job walking through all of the expectant dads on a variety of topics from diaper changing to fathers mental well being. Finally some instruction for fathers. I highly recommend taking the time to go through this course if you are a expecting dad!

Dr. Dan's class is an excellent introduction to fatherhood and something every first time dad should take. It not only introduces you to the in's and out's of diaper changing and caring for the baby, but offers excellent advice on maintaining a healthy marriage (relationship) throughout the pregnancy and years afterward.

Getting a chance to talk with the "Veteran Dad" is invaluable and will help alleviate a good deal of the stress associated with being a first time Dad.

Dr. Singley's Basic Training for New Dad's was awesome! I was kind of reluctant to go after my wife signed me up for the course but when I arrived I was pleasantly surprised. It was just like hanging out with the guys while gaining some valuable knowledge at the same time. Not only do you learn about the basics of being a dad, you also learn how to make your relationship with your wife way better using some simple pointers. It was fun and the time flew by! I would definitely recommend this to all new dads!

Dr. Dan's "Expectant Dads" class is very efficient at highlighting the major aspects surrounding the arrival of newborn baby (i.e. discuss techniques and practice diapering, swaddling, soothing, and burping a baby). I found his approach very straightforward and relevant to the male perspective.

We also briefly touch on marriage, and how a baby can and will change the dynamics of a relationship (for better or for worse), and Dr. Dan provides effective methods to support a healthy marriage through a changing time.

The most rewarding point for me was when the First-Year Dads joined

Got exactly what I hope for and needed as I'm preparing for fatherhood. Dr. Singley is super approachable, competent, and well-informed. He had answers for my questions and the questions I didn't know to ask yet.

I took Dr. Singley's class about two weeks before the arrival of my baby boy. He's now two weeks old, and the lessons taught in New Dads Training have been life-saving. I would recommend this to any first-time dad.

Dan leads a truly worthwhile expectant father class. Although my wife has done most of the baby prep and classes, I have a busier work schedule and have to be more selective with my time . . . so, I was hesitant to go initially when she suggested it. But our OB said Dan led the one class that was worthwhile to attend. If I had to choose one class as a dad, this would be the class as it efficiently discussed the most important items to consider and prepare for in the third trimester, at birth and shortly after birth. The class is hands-on and actually included an adorable real newborn. I

This course was much more than I expected upon signing up. I was referred to Dr. Singley by a friend of my wife. He had taken this course and spoke very highly of it. This being my first child I was more than interested in getting any and all of the information available. Dr. Singley was great at tailoring the course to the needs of the fathers to be in the room, of which there were only four which is another bonus, and making us feel at ease and welcome to discuss anything and everything. This is not only a course on physical skill, but what a father experiences emotionally with his wife
