In 2009, two friends heard about CrossFit for the first time and challenged each other to a WOD (Workout Of the Day) named Murph. Over an hour later, they finished and slumped to the ground. A workout had never exhausted them quite like that. This led them on a search to find the answer to a simple question: What is CrossFit?
Alexis is no cowgirl to joke about. With 15 year experience as an Equestrian Vaulter, she can do handstands on a moving horse - don't try this at home even if you have a horse (this makes her a great person to get some extra coaching on your handstands). She moved to San Francisco to study exercise science at SFSU, and received her B.S. in Kinesiology in 2010.
On-ramping courses are designed to ensure that you know how to complete all CrossFit movements safely. Athletes new to CrossFit must complete Group Elements. Our Free Intro is a great starting point to figure out if CrossFit is right for you before joining Elements. Experienced CrossFitters transferring from another affiliate can simply Drop In.

I started my crossfit journey 5 months ago at CFPH and absolutely love it! The coaches are all incredible! They are all super knowledgeable, engaging, funny, and actually care about the athletes. Everyone supports each other and there is a very good energy all around everytime I go to work out. I can't say enough good things about this box, the owners, the coaches, and my fellow athletes!!!

I dropped in while visiting SF. Carlos was the coach for that afternoon. He was super welcoming and friendly. He took the time to show me the facilities and made me feel at home.
The box is in a pretty big warehouse with plenty of rigs and equipment. There were some lifting platforms in the back.
Carlos was a great coach. He was clear with going over the workout. I liked the warm-up Carlos ran us through for the workout and how he took the time to give me feedback during the workout. (Sometimes when you're a drop-in, the coach doesn't want to waste their time correcting you since they figure

Extremely friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable box! On our visit to San Francisco, we dropped in to CrossFit Potrero Hills, and were amazed at how we were welcomed into the box. The box is clean, and the coaches are very knowledgeable and willing to help. You get a shirt with your drop in fee, which definitely helps me choose which box to drop into while travelling.
Highly recommended, and thank you for having us!

This has been my second home for over 4 years.
People come and go but one things is consistent: the kind of supportive and easy environment you need when working out. I have gotten lots of encouragement and guidance here and have made tremendous progress considering when I started I had no lifting experience at all.
I love CFPH because it's family now. Fun weekend comps followed by beer and taco truck, fundraisers, watching the open together, and the games. It's good for kids, dogs and whoever else you want to bring along. Fun memories and life lasting friendships are created here

CrossFit Potrero Hill was my first Crossfit box (gym) and I was hooked immediately. They offer everything from absolute beginner (intro "elements" classes) to hardcore (barbell club, national WOD competitions) and everything in between.
The large variety of workouts (WODs) are designed tough but fair, allowing beginners to scale back weight/reps as needed. I'm pretty sure I've never done the same workout twice during my time here. The class sizes are reasonable and there is usually enough equipment to go around.
I can't say enough about the staff at CPH. All of them

Big gym, awesome location, top of the line equipment, knowledgable coaching staff, can't ask for more!
I've been to boxes all over the place and this one has everything, including the community aspect which is important to me. I've made some tremendous friends and PR'ed everything here. Can't recommend it enough.
Also, you get a membership to World Gym, which is nice if you want to get a quick bicep pump in front of 400+ mirrors.

Absolutely the best Gym Box in the area. This very spacious warehouse is truly wonderful to workout in and feel like you have enough space to breathe and be comfortable. It is massive! What is truly amazing are the coaches and the CFPH athletes who come to workout together. There are no jerky meatheads or any ounce of silly pretentiousness that come to this Box. What you will find here are people who challenge you and support your never ending goals to health, happiness, and awesomeness! If you choose to do CrossFit CFPH is the place to be a warrior!!!

Thank you again for another great workout!!!
If you are looking for a welcoming, non-judgmental community of crossfitters, this is the place to be! The workouts are always amazing; additionally the community is extremely inclusive.
The coaching staff is fabulous, and it is apparent that they actually care about each member's progress. I would recommend CrossFit Potrero Hill to both beginners and experienced CF athletes. It is undoubtedly a great place to workout with the added benefits of an awesome group of athletes and a great sense of community.

I watched CFPH go from a small gym within World's Gym to a major San Francisco CrossFit gym. The old location had a good community. People had a good time but it wasn't a very competitive environment. The majority of people, myself included, considered fitness a secondary part of life. Moving to the new location brought many high skill athletes who might have looked elsewhere. This could have transformed the gym into a "bros club", competitive against others, leaving the weaker behind. But CFPH didn't let that happen. CFPH is the perfect blend of community and being competitive

I've been coming to CrossFit PH for a couple of months now, and have been super pleased with my experience and progress, and I think CrossFit is a great value for money.
The CFPH facilities were fine--just fine--before. But last week, CFPH moved into an awesome new facility a block north of its old location, at 15th and De Haro. The new space is huge, and the new equipment is awesome. But members still get access to World Gym, a big plus in my book.
In response to the last comment, along with the move came a bunch of new classes. There are four classes in the mornings, a noon, three

I have been meaning to write this review for quite some time...
CrossFit in Potrero Hill was a terrible experience for both myself and my best friend. We did much research beforehand, and were excited to join this program. It's incredibly expensive, but we had both decided to really commit ourselves financially.
We enrolled in a four session "CrossFit Training", which is supposed to prepare us for the class. I should say, I am very out of shape (hefty, in fact), and my best friend was a bit out of shape as well. However, we emailed both the CrossFit owner and Alexis, our Trainer

Eric and his team of coaches are truly excellent. They are dedicated to every CrossFit member who walks into their cage and really push you to be a better athlete, and go beyond where your mind thinks your body can go.
I started CrossFit last summer thinking I'd try it out to get in shape before my wedding and have been hooked ever since. I have been a competitive athlete all my life and since I stopped playing competitive soccer in college, have not had a workout that challenges me in a way that's engaging and fun. CrossFit PH is what I was missing all these years!
I'm so glad

I have been an athlete my entire life. I competed internationally in swimming and triathlons all through my youth and 20's. Over the past few years I have struggled to find something that motivates me and keeps me in shape. Well, I found it.
CrossFit is amazing. I did a lot of research about what CrossFit was about prior to signing up. I also researched many of the CrossFit places in San Francisco. I found that CrossFit Potrero Hill (CFPH) was the one that suited me the best. They have an amazing space, the cage, that is clean and bright. Also, the instructors are very knowledgeable

First of all, CrossFit is sooo much fun, as are the folks who run CrossFit Potrero Hill. Fun is definitely only one part of the equation. Eric, Chris and Joe are very knowledgeable about how to get results safely and adapt the program for everyone. My exercise up to now focused on endurance cycling (road and MTBiking) and swimming. After a short time I saw a huge change in my speed in the pool and much more stability in my core while on the bike and behind the computer, reducing the pain in my ever sore lower back.
