Proudly LGBTQ-owned and operated, MX3 Fitness has been offering San Francisco personalized fitness solutions since 2016. We were founded by certified personal trainer Glenn Shope with the goal of combining truly world-class client service with data-driven programs to help folks effectively reach their fitness goals in a fun, safe and clean environment.
Our Lower Haight gym is our original location. It is a smaller neighborhood facility for those wanting a more intimate fitness experience. AJ has a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, which gives his approach to fitness an emphasis on human movement and exercise science. His belief is that the human body is a unique machine capable of adapting to whatever challenges are presented, particularly during workouts.
Whether you train on your own or with a trainer, it's important to know if you are making real progress toward the goals you are working so hard to achieve. We recommend taking measurements every 2 to 4 weeks to spot any trends that will help you make the necessary changes to keep yourself on track.
You can now workout on your own at our Castro location (monthly members can also user our Lower Haight location). On-your-own workouts allow you to use our equipment in your own personal fitness station in our Castro gym (Monthly members can also reserve at our Lower Haight location). Each station includes a full squat rack, weight bench and full set of free weights.
Using gym credits, you can work out on your own or with a workout partner (no personal training allowed), in your own personal fitness station. Each station includes a full squat rack, weight bench and full set of free weights. We also have an elliptical, an assault bike, and a water rower available upon request.

Glenn has built an incredible staff, really like no other gym I have ever worked out at. I work out mostly with Glenn for muscle-building, but his approach still hits the highlights to maintain all-around fitness. Over my few years with MX3 I've had an injury from rock climbing and a foot surgery--both of which Glenn was brilliant at working around. He was an essential part of my recovery! I've been training with Shana at MX3 Fitness (Waller Street location) for almost a year and a half now and it has been a phenomenal experience. I've been training with Govinda at MX3 fitness for a few months now and it's been a fantastic experience with clear results. Govinda is the best!

I came to Govinda due to chronic back problems, which culminating in an injury that never quite healed, even after 6 months of physical therapy. Govinda diagnosed my problems and-- in 12 sessions-- trained my back to be a source of strength and stability, instead of pain. He knows his stuff and taught me enough to be more aware my body's needs-- both for daily maintenance/ stretching and for proper exercise form. I recently had 10 personal training sessions with Shana at MX3 fitness in Lower Haight. I needed inspiration and direction following knee surgery as I was feeling somewhat despondent about my workouts.
Shana was amazing ! She's knowledgeable, pays attention to correct form and creates each workout to be individualized & I have to say, never dull.
Shana gave me just the 'leg up' I needed to move forward.
I miss my workouts with her.

MX3 is a unique blend of convenience, technical excellence and friendliness. Shana is my train-a. She's the first trainer I've worked with whom I genuinely like. Before each session she asks "how is your body?" Which gives us a moment to check-in and ready ourselves for the session. I like that. Then when it comes to exercise demos she is second to none! Her demonstrations look like they come from the Olympic reference manual chapter titled "How to score a 10". Then, she follows through - she wants me to look like that too. Super happy to have found MX3 and Govinda! I've worked out with a few trainers in the past and Govi blows them out of the water. Knowledgeable, very attention to detail oriented when it comes to form (which I appreciate), and just a fun guy! I used to loathe working out but a year in with Govi and MX3 I find myself looking forward to coming in each time I do!

Govinda is an excellent trainer and I'm so glad I made the decision to join MX3 Fitness and work out with him! I see Govi 3 times a week and I have to say that it's something I really look forward to. At my first session he asked me my goals (get bigger, gain muscle) and walked me through a series of exercises to see how I move. He was able to tell me which areas needed strength building (upper back, left leg, shoulders) and which muscles I was favoring.

A thing I LOVE is that Govi taught me specifically how to adjust my diet to get bigger. This is something I've had trainers talk

Body issues and a general distaste for the gym have stopped me from enjoying the fruits of a good workout for many years. I would try and stop. I never thought I was doing it right and often found the gaggle of beautiful boys flexing and preening in the larger gyms too much to bare. And alas, the years passed.

Recommended by a friend, I reached out to Glenn. After a thoughtful and intuitive conversation my workouts began. And while I have a "what took you so long" voice that pops in my head from time to time, I can say without hesitation that this has been one of the more rewarding

About 4 months ago, I made the decision to take the plunge and make an investment in training sessions rather than hoping that my hodgepodge of workout activities would help me reach my goals.

Asking Govinda at MX-3 to help me has been one of the best decisions I have made in years. We meet about 2-3 times a week and I'm seeing results that make me feel and look better. Other benefits include higher level of confidence, more optimism, and a commitment to fitness.

MX3 is a lean, well-designed studio with new state of the art equipment. Fresh air and daylight filter into the space and you can pick out the music that suits your mood. It's super clean and there is filtered water and towel service. Good coffee and a few urban parks are all a couple of blocks away. I've rarely had difficulty parking.

It's not inexpensive, and it's totally worth every penny. I have worked with many trainers throughout the years. By far, Glenn is the best I've ever known.

I contacted the owner (Glenn) to get in shape for my wedding, and have been working out with him almost 2 years now.

Glenn's blend of compassion, intelligence, and humor mean you will look forward to every work out. He will push you hard, but has a keen awareness of your individual limits and keeps those in mind. It is clear that he takes personal pride and interest in your progress.

He is very hands-on with his other trainers, and checks in with their clients to make sure they're satisfied as well.

The MX3 facility is beautiful, small, and private so there's no wandering around

From my initial intake meeting to my current workout, Glenn and his whole team have taken a genuine interest in my goals and my daily routine. My workouts have been designed specifically to meet my end goal and this is the first time with a trainer that I felt like it was about me and not about a cookie cutter plan. After only three weeks, I have seen significant changes in my body and my energy level. Initial response to my inquiry was fine. The owner seemed authentically interested in making sure there was a good match.

My initial assessment and meeting with the trainer (Ovinda) I was matched with not great. Not very engaged. Seemed either disinterested or nervous. Either way, uncomfortable for me. My specific questions were never answered and it took him some time to respond...

With so many different options in terms of trainers, keep looking.

Was really disappointed.

For over two years now I have been training with MX3 Fitness on a weekly basis. I received a gift for a number of sessions for my birthday two years ago and this has been without a doubt the most life-changing approach to fitness I have ever witnessed.

I've been working out with MX3 Fitness now for almost two years. Glenn and Lee have helped me build significantly more muscle and endurance than I've ever had before despite having lifting weights for a decade plus. Difficult exercises that I always thought weren't for me such as pull-ups, deadlifts, etc. are now just part of a weekly routine.
