Services
In 1975, Chateau of Spain was born from a group of local investors looking to build on the growing Spanish and Portuguese presence in the city. In 1989, Bill Oliveira and Joe Conceicao purchased the restaurant, bringing their past restaurant experience into creating a mainstay of Spanish and Portuguese cuisine in downtown Newark.
From wedding receptions, to office parties, to graduations, and any other special event, Chateau of Spain can cater your event in-house. Our second floor dining hall, which is handicap accessible, fits up to 70 people comfortably, and with the middle wall removed, can fit up to 120 guests. We offer packages for groups of all sizes, from family style to buffet, and have add-on's such as open bar, Venetian Table, and much more.

I was kinda disappointed in my Calamari. It was a bit chewy, and you could the artificial in the product. My drink had waaayyyyy too much sugar. I ordered a pineapple long Island and was given a peach/pineapple long Island. I kept it because I'm not a fan of sending items back. My fiance had wings. He said they were ok at best. My fajita was very good! I would go back. I'd just be careful and not order the over priced items as you are not really getting what you are paying for.

Ordered a salad last week for pick up. The website specifically stated what was included. However when I picked up the order and got back to the office, everything was not included plus the roll was stale!😡
Until the manager take the complaints and negative reviews seriously and do something about them, I (a long time customer) will not visit the restaurant again any time soon.
On a positive note, the ladies at the front counter were very courteous.

I'm a regular customer of Chateau. I dine in or take out on Tuesday's every week. I usually dine in with a group of family or friends. I'm saddened by the encounter I had on September 7, 2021 with the manager. I was dining inside with 3 friends and when I received my food there was hair in it. I told a member of the staff and they remade the dish. I ordered a dinner to go and once the check for that meal came I saw that I was being charged for garlic sauce which I'm usually given for free. So I asked for the manager and when he arrived at my table he was very nasty and rude

Parking is a problem at this place so it's better to take a taxi or Uber or Lyft. The place was nice, clean, interior was very clean. My server was very nice and professional, her name was Chris from Brazil. I had ordered veggie burger, to me it tasted as if the veg patty was a little Over cooked. Otherwise everything was fine

Went to a friends sweet 16 birthday party here and the setup was really nice. Thank goodness it was on a Sunday because parking would have been tough. We were on the second floor. Tables were set up according to the number in the party which we had about 20. One thing that was annoying was another party that was there was very loud. I mean laughing and talking as if they were they only ones there. It would have been nice if they asked them to calm down a bit but nope we had to deal with it until they left. It's not in the most popular place in town but the food is delicious and they have take out. I had the grilled shrimp with sweet potato fries. My friends got wings and the other got the Philly cheese steak rolls. Everyone was pleased with their order. We also had the white sangria; SO DELICIOUS. I would definitely be eating here again.

This is related to a small family gathering on a Sunday. The elevator made it easy to transport items to upper level. Staff greeted us at the door to assist with cake and signage. The staff was pleasant from beginning to the end. There was another gathering in the same room after ours and my biggest concern was turn around time if I were the later party I would not want to walk into a mess. The staff was diligent in the clean up and linen changes without rushing us to clear the room. There was a need for another table and the staff accommodated the extra senior guests quickly and without disrupting

I called this morning to make a reservation first was told we don't take same day reservation but when I explained that it could not be made using open table due to the number in my party they took my reservation. Once we got there to celebrate my daughters birthday, I was told there was no reservation. The waiter told us we would be taken care of downstairs and after waiting were told they were booked. I called +1 (973) 624-3346 and asked what time they take the last order and I was told 9:30. I called before 9:30 and the answering service was already set to answer. When I got there he said they were closed and that nobody told me that because he answered all the calls since 5. I showed him my call log with proof that I spoke to someone at 8pm and he said oh sorry happy new year and we decided to closed early today. I will never go there again.

Giving it negative stars for service because calling this a trainwreck on Mother's Day would be putting in nicely. I ordered through the Grubhub app at 10 AM for a paella and stuffed mushrooms. I received a confirmation that it was confirmed by the restaurant and would be ready by 5:30 PM. Because we recently had an issue that ended up being a misunderstanding, the manager "Sergio" made sure to have us seated right away and requested that "Paula" (I believe that was her name) be our server. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and she allowed us to take our time with ordering. Sergio occasionally checked in on us throughout the night to make sure that everything was running smoothly.

Nice atmosphere, 2 floors. Attentive service. Conveniently located near Prudential Center. Very reasonable prices and very large portions. Side salad was an entree sized salad. Rolls on the table. Was stuffed before the main entree! Red sangria was quality and a pitcher is enough for 3-4 people. Garlic shrimp and rice/potatoes all fine but not overly impacted with flavor. Average meal overall, worth the money but not memorable.

I think I'd been here many years ago. We came recently on a Sunday night with reservations and we were seated on the second floor. I found the seating to be comfortable. It was spacious and not crowded in like many of the area restaurants. We found the service to be prompt and courteous. One thing I particularly appreciated was that they didn't try to push us to order too much food. We ordered family style. Started out with some lobster bisque, and ordered 4 main dishes for 7 people. When we asked if the waiter felt it was enough food, he said the paella were large and felt it was sufficient
