Volition Fitness
Behind the red gate a dark passage funnels you into a garden, my slice of paradise. We might carry a pair of dumb bells or a yoga mat here and practice among the flowers; or, if the morning fog chills the air, we'll retreat into the converted Victorian carriage house that is home to my personal studio.

It's very private here, usually just one fitness client at a time; so we can make of your hour whatever you wish. There's plenty of heavy equipment if you've got muscle on your mind or Pilates apparatus if a more subtle approach is desired. Had a tough day? Let's light candles and listen to the fountain while we workout.

Michael is an amazing trainer and human being! I needed help to rebuild my core after a back issue and felt that a group class would not be tailored enough. So I looked for individual sessions instead and never looked back! This was about 5yrs ago. I've learned so much about my body, its strengths, limitations and how to overcome them with practice thanks to Michael's deep expertise, listening skills and attention to details. I'm grateful for his knowledge, support and the safety he creates while helping me push my physical and mental boundaries about what I can do. Most of all,

Michael is the best.

How I got started:
I never really worked out before seeing Michael. I did the occasional yoga or Zumba class, but honestly felt like working out just wasn't for me. After a birthday in my early 30s I decided if I wanted to maintain my health and figure I should probably start doing something about it. I started seeing Michael with the intention that I would get more comfortable with this whole workout thing and then be able to do it on my own at a gym or with class pass. Screw that! I get so much out of my sessions with Michael that is it completely worth continuing

I've been working out with Michael for about ten months. I recommend him very highly. He listened carefully to my training goals, and developed a personal and effective plan based on what he saw I could do. The results speak for themselves: I'm in far, far better shape now than I was last summer, and have finally moved past a couple of long-term injuries.

What I want from a trainer is someone who fits your workout style, who uses their expertise to make sure you're effective, and who takes care of the planning and progression so that I don't have to flounder figuring out the

Michael offers an easy and graceful approach to fitness. He said to me "I don't buy into the 'no pain, no gain' model of fitness."
Every time I've been in to work with him, I feel new parts of my body waking up, finding their strength, remembering how to work more effectively and efficiently.
The muscles that he's helping me strengthen make an intuitive sense as the parts that need to be worked to correct my limping gait and somewhat twisted standing posture. I can see how it all fits together, and he explains everything that's happening in terms I can

I attend the "Man Up" class and train privately at VF. Training at VF is a great alternative to training at one of the big gyms: No distractions, no waiting your turn to get on equipment and no one leering at you, because it is just you and your trainer. The Man Up class is a bargain when it comes to fitness training. There are two trainers there giving individualized attention to each participant (usually about 2 - 6 people. WIth Training costs today being anywhere from $85 - $125 a session, you just can't get a better deal. The class is set up so that anyone at any level can participate

Michael really knows bodies! He is not only a Pliates and Circuit training instructor, but a professional dancer and choreographer. He combines all of his training to create a dynamic, fun filled workout circuit training session which works what you need but you are also smiling during the whole process. This was a first circuit class for me and thought it was suited towards the levels of the present students.
I really miss these weekly sessions...
I forgot, at the end we share delicious water with lemons, limes and other special fruits, yummy!

Hey folks! If you need to get help to bounce back after and injury or major illness Call volition fitness to get you back in good shape. Michael personally knows how much effort recovery can be. He senses where you are having difficulty and quickly adjusts the exercises to let you gain strength and confidence. I have been going to Michael for over 2 years after recovering from prostate cancer treatment and last year from a total shoulder replacement. I don't know who else offers such professional and intuitive care in the Bay area.

Michael Parra of Volition Fitness is an amazing trainer that brings his experience in dance, yoga, pilates, and general fitness together in a great practice! His private gym has everything you need for Pilates, Yoga or strength training. Recently he started a Tuesday weekly circuit training session for women. He has room for up to 7 participants. He set up 7 stations of varying exercise from yoga, to aerobic, to strength, to pilates. You get 2 minutes on each exercise. Then for the second set, you do a variation on the first set. He serves fruit-spiked water, plays great music, and the gym in candle
