Services
The MVMNT Society was founded by Natalie Strahorn in 2014. Driven by her passion for fitness and movement, what originally started as a Sculpt Studio, quickly evolved into so much more. With a belief that health is wealth, diversifying class programming became important for staving off plateaus and boredom, both mentally and physically.
Fusing elements of Pilates and Dance with functional full-body fitness techniques, to transform the way you move and feel, mentally and physically. Designed by women for women, and suitable for all fitness levels. Intense fat-burning cardio, muscle-toning segments and added core work through balance-challenge on the Bosu balance trainer.
You can book class through the Mindbody Online Scheduler here or through the MindBody app. Whatever you feel comfortable working out in. We recommend clothing that's fitted so our team can help assist you in correcting your form and alignment, as well as a supportive sports bra if you plan to take any jumping advancements.
Upon completion of the virtual training, trainees will then participate in a 2-Day Workshop with our Founder or Lead Instructor, implementing newly learned training knowledge for teaching a Sculpt class. Trainees will then have 6 weeks to practice, co-teaching weekly with a Senior Instructor. After 6 weeks, the trainee will teach a Sculpt class solo.

MVMT Society is hands down the best workout studio in the DMV. Natalie and her team are experts at helping you achieve whatever fitness goal you are looking to master. They offer a variety of classes that run the gamut from high intensity cardio that torches calories (bounce, bosu and high fitness) to super sweaty sculpting and barre. All levels are welcome! The instructors give variations to every workout so it’s doable even if it’s your first time. The community is a huge part of what makes this place so great and what keeps me coming back week after week!

Love this place! All of the instructors are top-notch and put in a lot of work to make sure every class is new and challenging. The environment is really uplifting and the fast pace keeps you focusing on the workout. I also appreciate that instructors ask about injuries before classes and always share modifications or advancements so you can take class at your own pace. It can’t be beat for the price! Love the community of people I’ve met here and have started to see change after a month not only in my body but in my energy levels and health habits. 10/10 would recommend!

I absolutely adore The MVMNT Society! The instructors are so friendly and the workouts leave you feeling so accomplished. I also love how many class times they offer throughout the day so that it works with any schedule. Plus, it’s a great way to cross train with all of the different types of classes they offer. I recommend this studio to all of my friends!

The MVMNT Society is more than just a fitness studio – it’s a supportive and safe space that encourages you to be the best version of yourself. The workouts are varied, challenging and fun and the instructors are top notch (shout out to Anna-Maria for always bringing the energy; her passion for fitness really shines). I, too, recommend trying different classes to discover which workout / format works best for you. You’ll be so happy that that you did!

Went to a class using ClassPass and it was awesome! The front desk was the most bubbly and sweet lady ever! She made me feel so comfortable on my first class and helped take my things to a locker. The class itself was fairly fast but a great workout and the instructor was a substitute who did an excellent job helping correct. Nothing too harsh but my legs were definitely sore the next day.

Xtend Barre Old Town Alexandria is an amazing place! The workouts are so challenging and the environment is so positive and so encouraging! The owner of the studio, Natalie, will know you by your first name from the day you start class She takes a genuine interest in all of her clients and goes above and beyond to cater to busy schedules etc..... all of the instructors are absolutely amazing also! I love that they will give you modifications according to your levels, injuries, etc...... I had a very rough 2018 and had to take some time off due to getting sick and getting into a bad car accident

I've only been going to Xtend for about two months now, and I LOVE it so much! I was hooked from my first class. I've tried all sorts of barre studios and this one is one of my absolute favorites. Their barre classes combine classic barre movements, but also mixes in real ballet positions and bursts of cardio which is different than any other barre studio I've been to.
The instructors are all really kind and genuine and I can tell really want to know the clients. There's definitely a community feel which I also love.

I have definitely 'been around the workout circuit' in the DC/Alexandria region as far studios go. I've tried everything you can imagine and have been members at several studios. While pregnant with my twins, I started going to Xtend in Old Town and working out with Natalie's team where they helped me modify the moves whenever I needed. After my twins were born, Natalie and her team literally snapped my prebaby body back to being tighter, more toned than I have ever been in my life. I canceled all memberships and now only go here for the lifting and tightening and shocking of

I call it ballet boot camp. These girls know how to keep your heart rate up while toning your flexible body. The workout is usually segmented into 4 types.
The "aerobic step warm up" gets me sweating the first 10 min. Then we go into barre mode with sculpting and ballet technique moves. Then using the resistance bands and medicine balls for core workout.
Everything I was looking for in a good workout.

Best barre studio in all of DC area - hands down.
- Clean and inviting studio
- Personable staff - no barre snobs (like other studios), make everyone feel welcomed no matter what level you are in fitness. I came in knowing nothing and felt like a pro after a couple classes because of the awesome instructors and the owner is a peach!

*Pros*
-Friendly instructors, that are good with cues, and actually make good adjustments.
-Other patrons here actually talk to each other instead of the stare down avoidance you may be used to.
-Facilities are clean and bright.
-Some unique moves that you don't see over and over at other studios.
-More cardio based. This is dependent on what you're looking for.
-The owner was super sweet to me when I was put on bed rest and couldn't use my package during pregnancy.
*Cons*
-The warm-up is a bit hyper speed and chaotic in that the music is a touch loud, and in trying to keep up

This place is absolutely amazing.
I am a triathlete and already doing a lot of swimming, biking, and running. My coach urged me to start doing strength training because I kept getting injured...so I tried some weights and exercises at home...was not getting much out of that. After being persuaded by a good friend to check out XBOT with her, I found it would be a good substitute for the strength training I was doing at home. I did my 1st class in September and in November I had a 5 mile run PR, and just recently a 5K PR! running has never been easy for me and now I feel like I have new legs

Ummm have you tried Xtend? Have you heard of it? Allow me to fill you in! Xtend Barre is basically a combination of Pilates and dance moves that are amplified throughout your workout. It brings in elements of dance, ballet and Pilates to create an adrenaline-fueled workout that strengthens, lengthens and chisels the body. Your body will be sweating, screaming and sore after any 55 minute long class from ANY of the instructors at Xtend Barre Old Town (XBOT).
The Workout:
The workout is always laid out the same, warm up/cardio, stretch, arms (biceps, triceps), stretch, planks, stretch, leg and bum

Gaaaaah I love this place! I've been to Barre Tech, Barre3, Spark Yoga (barre) and multiple Pure Barre locations. This barre class blows all of them out of the water. You walk in and are greeted with ridiculously kind people. There is no judgement or weird "you're not in our barre squad" vibe that you get when you walk into the other studios during a busy time. The employees are down to earth!
The workout is upbeat, technical, and very ballet-infused. All of the instructors I've taken from are highly trained ballerinas with the energy of a dirty hip-hop dancer! What a

I decided to give Xtend barre because I have class pass and am always looking for new studios. The location is a bit hard to find on a somewhat hidden street but I managed to park near the studio.
I go to Pure Barre regularly so Xtend barre was quite different. I found it to be challenging in a very different way and a much faster pace than Pure Barre. It incorporates in a lot more ballet and dancing as well.
The studio is nice and clean with very friendly staff. I would recommend Xtend barre to those with dance experience, the other students seemed to be much better at the moves than I was

The ONLY workout I've ever stuck to and looked forward to going every single time was at this cute little Xtend barre studio. The owner, Natalie, is extremely involved and attentive to everyone and welcomes everyone by their name whenever they walk in to the studio and she is there! All the instructors are fabulous and super friendly. The studio is really cute and well-kept. The bathroom is stocked with everything you would need to get a quick post class shower and touch up which is very convenient in case you forget something.
I actually looked forward to dressing up in a cute gym outfit
