In 1986, I began working in the field of mental health and addictions. Since that time, I've worked in psychiatric hospitals, chemical dependency units and freestanding residential treatment centers treating addictions mental health, substance use disorders and process addictions. I began my private practice in Denton in 1997.
Avery has been a key member in clinical teams treating addiction and co-occurring psychiatric disorders. She knows that when you are struggling with addiction, family issues, shame, any other mental health issues, you are not able to be at your best. She knows that when a client's life gets stressful, their best qualities can get lost pretty quickly!
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a clinically proven methodology for reprocessing distressing memories in an expedited manner. If it could be renamed, it would most likely be called Bilateral Stimulation Therapy.

This is because both hemispheres of the brain are being stimulated through the use of different stimuli i.e, a comfortable alternating tone in each ear or gentle alternating vibrating discs that can be easily held in each palm of the hand.Some clinicians utilize a horizontal light bar that delivers a LED light that easily sweeps back and forth across the field of vision while the client follows with their eyes.
