SF Plaza Hotel
Next to the World Famous Chinatown Dragon Gate, our hotel is perfectly situated near the Center of Downtown, and minutes from the City's Financial District and Major Convention Venues. The Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, the Mission and Castro Districts and many other tourist attractions are all close enough to explore.
Services
The San Francisco Plaza Hotel is at the corner of Bush Street and Grant Avenue. We are located right next to the World Famous Chinatown Gate, with Starbucks Coffee directly across the street. We are in the heart of San Francisco with many attractions nearby. It is the perfect walking distance to popular San Francisco destinations, such as Chinatown, the Financial District and the renowned Union Square.
SF Plaza Hotel was all that we expected (and more) for that price range. Rooms were basic but comfortable, especially the bed, breakfast was simple but adequate for our needs and the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. We would certainly recommend SF Plaza Hotel to anyone looking for a well located budget hotel in San Francisco.

This place is not a real hotel but more like a hostel.
At the exception of Cris and Kristine, the other Asian ladies at the front desk clearly should not be in the hospitality business as they are anything but customer friendly.
Let's start with the good
1. Pretty good location and that's it!

Let's continue with the not so good
1. Rooms are in bad shape and very small
2. Not very clean and the maid service did not even bother coming in
3. Breakfast is a joke and a depressing place to have it on camping tables (make sure you bring the free coupon as they will not even say hello and

I would never recommend someone to stay here.

Let me write this review as a list.
-bedbugs, I received bites and no reply from a manager regarding it
-carpet was dirty and poorly installed
-bathroom grout was dirty throughout
-toilet seat would fall because of the counter behind
-room was small
-room service would leave the window open...it has no screen
-toilet clogs, when I told front desk, I was referred to a plunger in the hallway...
-desks are worn and dented
-service was either wayyyy to friendly/touchy or apathetic
-$330 a night on weekdays, biggest rip off ever
-hotel smells like a

If I could rate this hotel zero stars, I would. If you absolutely hate cleanliness, hospitality, and yourself, then I would recommend you stay here. At check-in, we were given one key which isn't too bad but is a little inconvenient. The room is very basic, I'm talking the bed(s), a lamp, a fold-out chair with a hole in it, and a very small, dirty bathroom. Check your bed for bedbugs too, I'm not joking. They do have a bedbug problem and they really don't care or apologize for it. Now here comes the main story... We were told that breakfast is served on Floor 2, in room 216

They only give you one room key per room...even for a room with 2 beds...so, had to go have a key made. This is just poor hospitality.

No glasses in room. Had to ask and initially was told they didn't have any...until I persisted and they "found" some.

Room had odor of an old trunk, so had to get air freshener too. BTW the shower/hand soap in the bathroom is the size of a .50 cent piece so don't forget to add soap to your list when you go to purchase an additional key and air freshener. Oh, you'd better get ice too...they don't have an ice machine, either.

Rude. We wanted to check in the hotel and actually was going to recommend it to our friends who were going to visit from San Diego. However, when we drove by Chinatown today with my mom and she wanted to take a picture of the main gate, the hotel staff were absurdly rude. No way will I recommend this place. Avoid Cris at all cost. We will never recommend your business!!!

I would not recommend staying here. The only thing it has going for it is the location. The rooms are very uncomfortable and very old. They have clearly never been renovated. There is also a weird smell present in the room. The bedsheets seem very old and dirty. The bathroom is very small. This is not a good place in general, not even if you are on a tight budget.

I stayed here on 4/16. Woke up at 3am to find bed bugs crawling on my pillow and the foot of the bed!! I went down to the lobby to inform the manager and get another room. He did not seem to care- did not even apologize, just gave me keys to a new room. Needless to say, I did not sleep at all that night. I spent the rest of the night with the lights on looking for more creepy crawlers.

When I went to check out, I informed the manager on duty. She too did not seem to care, did not apologize and asked me what I would like her to do about it. She had the cleaning lady go up to the room to verify

For first time visitor like me who only book online, it is a bit stressful not knowing the quality of the place I'm about to stay over night. Fortunately I made the right decision to choose this 3 star hotel. Location location location. That's what I needed for this trip & this hotel has prime location. Located next to Dragon gate SF chinatown, walk distance to Embarcadero & Ferry building and so many options of great cafe or restaurant nearby. Walked in & being greeted by friendly front desk John.Turned out he came from the same place like me.I already felt welcome. The room

The hotel staff was great. Right when we walked in, we were greeted by Crispin, who was an absolute pleasure.

- The hotel's location was convenient, has a Starbucks right across the street and it was right next to the Dragon Gate in Chinatown. Everything was in walking distance.
- The hotel's cleanliness was actually pretty impressive. Since it was a very outdated hotel, I half expected it to have bugs and/or dust everywhere. It was actually pretty clean and I was comfortable enough to sleep soundly.
- The hotel's nightly rate is decent. Specifically, since it was one of the only

To me a basic hotel is fine provided there is good customer service. Unfortunately, that was not our experience.

The Good: The hotel has clearly been renovated recently. Most of the furniture is Ikea. The room was clean and somewhat spacious (We had a double bed room on the 5th floor). We had free WiFi in the room that worked well. There's a Starbucks right across the street, and the hotel is located right at the entrance of Chinatown. There is a 24 hour parking lot right across the street.

The Okay: The hotel is located right at the entrance of Chinatown and the tour buses start early

Small and dirty, no amenities whatsoever. Ironing board is stained, lightbulb is out, no chair for table, no phone, feels like I'm staying in a third-world country. Absolute horrible experience in every way.

The WORST of the WORST! I don't understand how a hotel can rent to people in these conditions? Don't people go and review hotels before giving them
business licenses to allow people to stay? It was disgusting. We walked in on a last minute reservation and booked for one night. With tax we paid about $130 for a night. Unfortunately it was one of the cheaper locations in SF and we only needed somewhere to rest our head for the night.

The lady at the desk was somewhat friendly. She wasn't rude at all. A little language barrier but that's fine.

We got to the hotel and took a

Hotel Astoria (changing name to San Francisco Plaza according to the sign inside our room door) is pretty basic hotel but it is clean and in a good location.

Our room on the third floor was small but had a small desk, dresser, night stand, and a queen size bed. The bed was a bit firm, which I do prefer over soft, so it worked for me. The bathroom was very small with standing shower. We had some issue with the shower controls to get the temperature just right and the pressure was sufficient, but a little low for my taste.

Overall, it was worth the cost ($169/night with all taxes included, booked

I'm from the Bay Area so I've never really had a reason to get a hotel in the city since I could just drive home and sleep in my own bed. However, I was organizing a weekend extravaganza for my friend, a bride to be. We needed a place to safely crash for one night. Everyone in my group opted for the cheapest we could get without having to stay in a hostel.

The location is pretty good and the price was on the lower end. I booked our room through hotels.com. They no longer honor the AAA discount that they used to have. There is also no discount for the parking garage across the street

I would love to give this hotel a 0 star but yelp wouldn't, This place don't even deserve 1 star.

From the first moment, the manager was belligerent and aggressive in the way she was speaking to us. Our reservation was lost due to a shady change of management, this was outside the current staffs control, but the manager was only willing to explain how it wasn't her fault, and only after 5 minutes of arguing did we figure out that there were in fact rooms available. Granted, the they gave us a discount in honor of our original booking, but in hindsight we should have left immediately

This hotel was horrible. I will say the staff was nice but that's where the positive side ends. My sister and I booked two nights here on a two week road trip we are taking through the west. For San Francisco the price seemed very decent and most of the reviews just focused on avoiding the elevator of death. For a deal I don't mind taking the stairs.

We parked in the suggested garage across the street and as we were getting our bags the garage attendant approached us to warn us to take everything because break-ins are a problem. Ok fine. We took everything and headed to the hotel

It's a 1 star hotel, but if you're on a budget and you are looking for a safe and clean place to stay, this place isn't so shabby.

I stayed here from Sat-Mon and my rate was $140 total. (If you have AAA, you get an additional 5% off when you present it at the front desk.) Where can you find a room in Union Square/weekend rate for $140?! All I cared about was a bed, shower and being safe - which Hotel Astoria provided.

You get the VERY basic amenities - shampoo, soap, and a shower cap. Otherwise, bring your own, which I do anyways. Room was small, but very quaint. Dated, yes - old

You get what you pay for! For $70 a night, this place is a steal! Located next to the Chinatown gate, it is only a few blocks away from Union Square. Stay here if you just need a clean place to sleep at night!

Rooms are pretty old but everything works fine. There are only a few channels available, but why would you come to San Francisco just to watch TV in your hotel room?! They have complimentary wifi, but only in the lobby and in the large common room on the second floor. Ask the front desk for breakfast "coupons" if the package you purchased includes breakfast. Honestly, their continental

If you're not looking for anything fancy and just care about the basics then this may be your place. At $74 a night with tax, it's suitable for those on a budget. You can't beat the location. If being at the entrance to Chinatown isn't enough, Union Square is just a few blocks away and in between that, you've got a bunch of shops and restaurants all within walking distance. Starbucks, American Apparel, and Lululemon are on the block across the street.

An actual key is used to open up the rooms, not a card key. The rooms furnishings are outdated except for two leather

After reading a number of 1-star reviews, I was skeptical about booking this hotel.

I'm glad that I didn't listen to them.

The old adage "you get what you pay for" describes my experience here. A quick search of "cheap hotels in downtown San Francisco" led me to Hotel Astoria. Were my eyes playing tricks on me? Only $59 for a room in the heart of the city? My fears included the following: cockroaches, intruders, loud noises, dirty sheets, and zombies.

Fortunately, I found my stay at Hotel Astoria to be quite enjoyable.
