Smith and Morgan is the concept of James Morgan and David Smith. Started in 2017, Smith and Morgan brings something different to the UWS. Our relaxed atmosphere provides the perfect getaway from hectic city life yet high on style, personable faces and precision hairdressing. Each stylist at Smith and Morgan brings their unique education background and artistic vision to the table.
We have a team of experienced professionals that will work closely with you, providing a seasoned opinion and the expertise to deliver the perfect hair. With 20 years of experience in hair dressing, Morgan landed with Smith+Morgan. Simplicity and structure is his key description in styling hair. Old school cutting techniques, combined with modern touches, describes his cutting philosophy.

I don't usually write reviews but I was unfortunately pretty bummed after my coloring yesterday at the salon for a partial highlight. I won't call out the stylist because I liked her personally and we had a lovely chat the entire time but I think the business missed as a whole on multiple fronts.
The biggest disappointment for me was that I came in for a standard partial highlight (been a blonde for a long time so not my first rodeo), shared pictures, discussed overall how I wanted to brighten up the coloring just a few notches but keep it natural. Best haircut I’ve had in NYC in 3 years!!! I’ve tried 4 other places on the upper west side and they all gave me weird/bad versions of what I asked for. My requests are fairly simple, but no one listened to me because they thought they knew what I actually wanted/knew better than me because they’re the professionals. Anthony actually listened to me and did exactly what I asked, plus a little extra flair to put his own, but he always asked before he did anything which I really really appreciate!! The other people in the salon are so kind and lovely! Michelle was amazing while washing my hair

Had a lovely experience with Brianna! The haircut I received was exactly what I wanted, and she was so thorough and thoughtful throughout the entire process. She was so kind and made me feel absolutely taken care of and was such a pleasure to talk to! All the other people working there were so sweet and helpful as well! Absolutely would recommend and so happy to find a new stylist I absolutely love!

I love coming to Smith and Morgan. It’s a wonderful calm oasis in the busy, stressful city.
Everyone is so friendly, it’s easy to feel at home.
I’m very particular about my hair and Morgan does a beautiful job of doing exactly what I want. He’s very talented and provides enjoyable conversation while making my tresses look gorgeous; I can’t recommend him enough.

If you are nervous about getting your hair done indoors during COVID-19, Smith + Morgan are to the rescue and 100% ON IT! I've been back to the salon twice since they were allowed to reopen and there is no precaution that has been skipped.
-Limited capacity (only 2 clients at a time inside)
-Hairstylists wear face masks, face shields, and protective robes
-Clients must wear face mask and they provide protective cover
-Hair stations all separated by plastic partitions
-No blowdrying so as not to spread potentially polluted air
I felt so safe (and now I look so good!)

It's taken me 4 years living in this fabulous city to finally find the perfect hair colorist. Thank god that journey is over! Ladies and Gentlemen... Come one come all to this gorgeous salon nestled in the iconic Upper West-side of Manhattan. You won't be sorry I always leave so relieved, relaxed and oh so gorgeous with my new do. I always go to Sara but when you get a balayage it can take awhile and I can tell you every stylist here has amazing results!

I went in to chop off my long hair and get a shorter hair style. I am extremely upset with the result mainly because I was left with a lot of really short layers and a chunk of long hair at the bottom, which I had to later cut the chunk to make it look less stupid. It didn't look like this when I left the salon, but it could've been because it was styled. To try and further fix the situation, I tried cutting it again to make it more even (did not touch the layers), but there's just no fixing it the layers are way too wispy and short plus it's very obvious where the line of the

Decided to book my sister and me for cut/color while in NYC for the weekend... Morgan fixed my highlights and gave me the best cut I've ever had! My sister's hair looked great too, at the hands of Adriana.
And cheaper than ATL prices!! Looks like I'll be going to Upper West Side more often.... just a great excuse for a regular trip to NYC. :-)

After years of high-end salon hopping, I've finally found a colorist! Before discovering Sara at Smith and Morgan, my brunette hair always came out either too black, or too red and brassy. She's the first colorist to achieve the natural, shiny, caramel brown I've always wanted. Sara takes extreme pride in her work, fussing over every detail to ensure the end result is perfect. She was meticulous in the placement of my balayage and monitored it carefully during processing. She also mixed and applied her own glaze, unlike many colorists, who hand you off to an assistant to start on

I really enjoyed my time here! I've never been but I've seen some of their work on Instagram and decided to give them a shot. I booked with Sara for a full balayage and a hair cut. I've been getting my hair highlighted for just a little over 10 years and wanted to try something new. Sara was awesome and we talked before about the differences and what I was looking for specifically with color and cut. My appointment took about 2 1/2 hours. Sara is a blonde hair balayage goddess! It's been so hard for me to find someone in NYC who understands how to make my hair both bright blonde AND honey/golden/caramel. My last stylist went too dark and dull. The one before that was too light and ashy. Sara nailed it. Even though it's the middle of winter, I now have gorgeous beach blonde California waves. I highly recommend Sara for both cut and color. This is the best my hair has looked since moving to NYC from Cali. I will definitely be back!

Obsessed with this new salon! After a terrible balyage experience I was extremely hesitant to color my hair again. Sara listened to exactly what I asked for and gave me the haircut + color of my dreams. I've never received so many compliments on my hair, in fact, more than 5 of my friends have already made appointments with her!
Aside from her incredible work, the ambience of the salon is hard to beat. When you walk in you immediately notice the trend forward design of the place and are greeted by a friendly staff offering to hang your coat and grab you a drink.

The Smith and Morgan Salon is everything you want from a hair experience, whether it is a weekly blow out or a monthly cut. It is calm and relaxing haven and makes you feel right at home. All the staff are great, helpful and friendly. ! I have been a client of Morgan’s for the last few years and he is no doubt one of the best hairdressers in the City! I enjoy it so much I visit him every week. I would highly recommend this salon for anyone looking for a fresh, professional experience on the UWS.

This is a true gem on the UWS! Smith + Morgan is a super cute salon that's refreshingly modern and hip. Everyone at the salon is also very friendly and welcoming, and you will feel right at home. I see Adriana and she is a talented stylist with a great eye for color. I absolutely love my hair...the color, cut and style are on point!
