Another person called this hotel a glorified hostel and I 100% agree with that. The bathroom in my room was nice and the bed was small but not too uncomfortable. The tv just doesn’t work (gets 3 channels that are fuzzy as hell). No working ice maker at all. There’s a snack machine and drink machine that takes cash only (the snack only takes coins whhaatttt?). The walls are super thin and the place smelled liked cigarettes in the hallway. The art in my room was just weird. No breakfast. I think there are ofher places that are nicer and cheaper. If you like hostels, this probably feels ok.

Beautiful hotel in the center of downtown SF. Amazing art in the rooms, nice cleaning service, easy access. Public parking available nearby (I recommend White House Garage 60$ a day, safe and very close) or parking on the street available. Friendly and flexible personnel. I wish there is some nice space to do yoga in the Hotel Des Arts.

My husband and I stayed for just two nights, the room was smaller than the pictures we saw in the advertisement but for our purpose it was enough. The room has interesting decoration and a high bath tub, the sink is outside the bathroom, with two faucets (hot and cold), how to have a mix of both if they are in each corner? Hahaha
After you rent, they don’t answer any message.
Pros: good location, clean, quiet, fast check-in (sms with instructions, password and use of specific app to unlock the room door).
Cons: Bad communication, no control of temperature inside the room, it was too hot for

Literally cripy and smell terrible with painted. As a traveler from Asia, I’m totally don’t like those logo and the painted looks like. Also, the room is separate with wired unit and space. Very stressful. (3F

I stayed here for a week and it was great! When we first got there, we had an issue with our original room and they gave us a new room right away.
I'm not really sure if there were other people staying in the hotel, but it was super quiet (minus my friends and I being complete menaces).
They do provide room service every day (but we opted to keep the privacy sign on the door).
I think it was very well-priced for its location and the service. The lobby was only open at night, but, logically speaking, it seems more efficient that way.
I would recommend going during the summer if you're

Not worth the money, I wish I had read the reviews more carefully- this is very much a glorified hostel. The facilities are VERY basic and (sort of) functional but also very old. The bed I had was very worn out and although it was clean, it sunk in whenever someone sat on it or moved. The walls are paper thin so I was woken up at 2am and 4am by alarms going off in other rooms and chatter in the hallways. There are many better newer hotels in the area (at cheaper or even similar prices). I checked out early to stay at Axiom (paid only about $20 more per night) but for FAR superior amenities.

Enjoy a quick night from hell completely abandoned in your own prison cell here at Hotel Des Arts! I headed to night reservation but could only survive one night. we froze all night and their contact free policy just means there is no staff. aside from being claustrophobic in this incredibly small room we were also freezing and couldn't even request an additional towel calling the front desk no one answered calling the hotel no one answered and the voicemail was full sending messages to the hotel through Airbnb we're all ignored until day after expected check out. they even ignored Airbnb

The day I was supposed to check-in at the Hotel Del Arts in SF to see Warriors v Lakers, where I live in Denver had the 4th worst snowstorm/blizzard in the city’s history. Denver International Airport canceled over 1,000 flights for the day. I couldn’t leave if I wanted to. I promptly emailed the hotel, informed them I have no choice but to cancel. I asked for either a partial refund or a credit to use at a future stay. Never heard back. A ‘no’ response would have received at least 3 stars in my book. But simply ghosting after taking my money = 1 star.

No staff onsite, have to use electronic keys on an app that is unreliable. No AC in the building at all, sleeping on the third floor was very hot. Guest windows face each other in a circle- with no staff onsite, another room was able to blast music with their windows open until 3 AM every night and there’s nothing you can do about it. Also rooms are incredibly small- could barely open both suitcases at one time. Convenient location is the only positive.

This hotel is very cool! If you love art, this is the place for you. Classic claw foot tubs, art in the hallways, murals on all the walls. The staff was helpful and friendly. What some people may see as cons: The hotel is a little cold and the stairs are very steep. The elevator is old and slow because the building is very old. I appreciated at the little things that made this hotel unique.

Positives
Cracking Location for the hotel as you are a stones throw from Chinatown and it not far to walk to Union Square or a bit further to down to Fishermans Wharf.
We really appreciated the fridge in the room as it meant we could keep some cold water, food (or beers!) for the next day.
The art work throughout the hotel was a very unique thing. Would've loved to have seen the art in the other rooms, not just our own.
Check in process was quick and easy.
Negatives
We didn't think the breakfast selection was very good. Although its only advertised as "Continental" it's very sparse with some

Booked this hotel 5 months in advance and was never able to get to it due to road closed and detour. No warning given by hotel. I am sure it' s good, but I spent $185 for a hotel that I was not able to use.

There was another review that wanted to give negative star review of this Hotel des Arts. I am in complete agreement that this hotel deserves negative stars.

I was assigned room 311. This room is painted with a surrealistic, robot -monster in a barf yellow. The room resembled a closet. The desk insisted that the bed was a queen-sized bed, but it clearly was just a double. There were claimed ammenities: Cable TV- nope. Maybe 10 channels of snowy unfocused screens. The TV was actually at a right angle to the bed so it was not possible to relax on the bed and watch TV. The queen-sized bed

We stayed there for about a week. Our room is small for the three of us, and the bathroom is tiny; there wasn't much room to move around. But we love the art painted on the walls inside our room, especially my daughter. It gave a strong vibe, and there are different kinds of art displayed throughout the hotel. If you like art, we recommend this hotel; you would love it here!

Stayed here last Saturday night. Generally speaking, this hotel is good. It is evident that is was built in the early 20th century, due to the small rooms and stairwell. If you have traveled to Europe, you would be familiar with much of the amenities. This is centrally located to the downtown region, with the Embarcadero and shops really close by (Macy's, etc). Plenty of bars and restaurants within walking.

I am not a person to stay in a hotel for anything other than sleep and a shower. If you plan to lounge in your room and not venture out, this hotel may be a bit uncomfortable. However

STAFF
Excellent. Polite and hardworking especially the cleaners who always stopped to say hello. Each time the room needed to be cleaned, they did a very good job.

LOCATION
It's in the heart of San Francisco, a five minutes walk away from Union Street and a twenty to thirty minute walk from the Wharf. Its right outside a cable car route and a left turn away from a City Sight Seeing Bus Tours drop off/pick up. In terms of views it's not that good, but in a mega city it's hard to get them so close to the ground, but to the right you will have an impressive view of some huge high

I stayed at Hotel des Arts on a Thursday night. I was in town for business, and this place was an easy walk to the office. My experience here was pretty great. The staff was friendly and helpful when I arrived. I had no problem using the stairs - they are a little narrow, but what do you expect for a boutique hotel in San Francisco? I wasn't expecting the art in my room, so I was pleasantly surprised when I first walked into the room! It was a cool cartoon woman with flowing teal hair. Loved it!

There were more than enough towels and they were the super thick nice hotel kind. The strong water

The cost and location of this hotel was what attracted me and my boyfriend to this hotel. We were in San Francisco for a vacation between our Spring and Summer semesters, we visited the last week of May. He chose the hotel and I was apprehensive after reading a lot of the reviews posted here. We paid something like $85 a night for a room with a shared bathroom.

The location is really great. We went bar hopping in Chinatown a couple nights while we were here and it was great to only be a few blocks away. Bush St stays generally quiet during the day, until most tourists are venturing the area into

I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel des Arts. I was in town for a conference at the Moscone, and this was a pleasant 10 minute walk there.

I stayed in room 306, which had some dope art inside of some cartoon characters. I've never stayed at a hotel quite like this! It's definitely not a luxury hotel. The tv only gets so many channels, there's no AC, and the sink is in your room. It did get loud at times, but nothing that really bothered me. Then again, I live in Brooklyn and its loud here most of the time no matter where you are.

Breakfast was free and consisted of juice, apples

Being a mild traveller I've gone through 17 countries and many more cities, so it's fair for me to make a comment about this very nicely artistically decorated boutique hotel. That wasn't sarcasm, the vibe was definitely worth a star.

Sadly, here's why it stops there, and I'll keep it as briefly as I could without bashing it to the sewers.

Horrible reception and service in general.
- called in to confirm my reservation and get some details about the room layout and amenities. That phone conversation made me feel so dumb I almost questioned my English skills. I've

You can read thru all of my other reviews to know that I am not a harsh reviewer and have a tolerance for most human behavior and most service industry outlets.

The location is comfortable, the rooms are cozy and the decor is quirky and quaint. Yet I will never go back here. Because of the service! Some of the rudest service I have experienced in the US. I stayed here on Saturday 9/13/14 and called on the day before to request an early check-in for 1:30 PM instead of 3:00 PM. The person at the other end of the line said among other things "Sir, I cannot kick someone out early for you. You

The only reason to pay ~$200 for a room here on a Friday night is for the art everywhere. As someone who appreciates art, I was happy to pay and stay here. I suggest just checking out the website and seeing the individual rooms. If you stay, hopefully you get a nice room.

Some rooms don't have a bathroom and you need to use the community one on the same place. I had a standard artist queen room which did have one. The ice machine is only on the second floor. I stayed on the 4th floor so I was lazy to get ice. I liked how there was a small refrigerator in the room I had. I also liked the free

First and most important things first: the location for the price cannot be beat. Literally steps away from the Chinatown gates (and when I say 'steps' I mean 1/4 of a block... not like those hotels who say 'steps' and mean a few BART stops away), a few blocks away from the financial district and the shopping district and BART, less than a mile from the heart of the Embarcadero and North Beach both - it couldn't possibly get any better.

As for the hotel itself, it's, well, it's different. I would venture to say that it should be categorized somewhere between

I liked the tub and the toiletries. I love the room but it is small. Maid service leaves your laptop alone. Of the three hotels that I remember staying in the city, this has the best location. Our tub shared a wall with the shared bathrooms.

Rooms include a refrigerator. The carpet in front of the closet was damp when we checked in. The first time I stayed here I shared what is now the breakfast room with three other people. When I returned with my
boyfriend we randomly got the Buffmonster room. You will hear everyone that passes by your door.
