The Beresford Arms presents a delightful nod to 1900s San Francisco. Many of our Suites offer all the comfort of spaciousness of your own downtown apartment. The lobby's arched windows have wowed guests for over a century and are officially designated design elements of the Nob Hill Historic District.
Begin your day with a continental breakfast at our English pub inspired White Horse Tavern. End it with a refreshing beverage from the pub. How you spend the hours in between is entirely up to you: Hotel Beresford is just one block from the cable car and two blocks from the heart of Union Square. Not sure where to begin in your San Francisco excursions?
The Beresford Arms offers a wide range of room types, from six-person suites perfect for families to deluxe rooms with one queen bed for the single traveler. No matter which room type you choose, your reservation includes a private bath, flat-screen TV and a European continental breakfast to start your day.
Hotel Beresford and The Beresford Arms are historic, boutique-style hotels in Union Square. At these sister Beresford hotels, history is essential. Step back in time when you step into the Arms' turn-of-the-century lobby, with its original gold-leaf ceiling and lush carpets. Take a peek at carefully preserved, award-winning 1960s restaurant design at the White Horse Tavern at Hotel Beresford, the work of renowned designer Val Arnold.
Not only are the Beresford hotels among the only family-operated hotels remaining in Union Square, the staff is a family all its own, with several 30+ year employees on staff, and even a 40-year marriage between two staff members who met on the job. The diverse staff is comprised of Bay Area locals who know the city and, between them, speak nearly all major world languages.

I stayed at the Beresford Arms hotel when I first came to San Francisco in 1988
L0vely hotel. Just like the one on Sutter. Great service for both. A wonderful welcome to San Francisco for me and my two cats waiting for moving van from zhouston. Great restaurant on Sutter location. I give them a 4.5.

We were seeking lodging for a two night stay in San Francisco. We live out of the area and were not familiar with the Beresford. We took a chance and were more than pleasantly surprised. It's a quaint established hotel(not your standard cookie cutter type), with very reasonable room rates and valet parking.
The polite staff took very good care of us.
Jeng, our Valet, made quick efficient work of unloading our luggage, delivering it to our room, and parking our car(in a secure enclosed facility.)
Jeng also served as concierge, making dining suggestions for many good places within walking

This Victorian hotel is over 100 years old and is in the heart of the city. It is a traveler's best friend. As with any Victorian hotel, the rooms are going to be super Duper small, it's not going to have a lot of room, but it will have everything you need. There's a wonderful pub and bar downstairs serving food, they serve coffee and breakfast in the morning. The hotel has been meticulously kept up, and the price is amazing. I don't know where anywhere you can go for $76 a night )off-season) and have a wonderful downtown room. You can walk to Union Square, you can walk to

No A/C people and it is HOT! They gave us a box fan, like we are living in the 1960's! The bedspread is disgusting and I am not feeling it is the safest part of town! Book anywhere else! We have the windows open and sirens just went by and now bugs are coming in the room. This looks to be a great night.

They completely ruined my trip to the city.
Booking.com saying that the hotel is pet friendly and it is NOT really. We checked in and paid and upon finalizing our stay the reception informed us that we could not leave our dog unattended in the room. I asked her how we were supposed to go out to eat or to view San Francisco and her response was that we could order door dash! I told her the whole reason we came to San Francisco was to SEE some things in San Francisco and that I wanted a refund so I could find a hotel that was actually pet friendly. She said she could not give us a refund because

Rooms were very small and extremely Hot and Stuffy as there is no a/c or even a fan, we were forced to open the window for some air and the noise outside kept us awake.
The plumbing was terrible.
Beds were comfortable but small as well.
Not enough plugs to charge devises.
Staff were friendly.
The hotel was in a great area.
The rooms were clean, but in need of updating.

We stayed here for 4 days and loved it. The hotel was very charming, comfortable bed, nice pillows. It's obviously a much older hotel but that really added to the charm. We really enjoyed our stay. We did have issues with them over charging us and also my friends that stayed in the room next door. However, once we brought it to their attention, they fixed it right away. So I would recommend double checking your bill. The restaurant in the hotel had wonderful fish and chips, hot wings and the best garlic fries in town. Great service and prices. Lastly, the little bar "White Horse"

I was so pleased with this hotel. Great location. I was told it is in the financial district. It was next door to the theatre I needed to go to. It’s an older hotel, but it was still very nice and clean. We showed up hours before check in, but they were nice enough to let us in our room. Staff was so friendly. We were able to catch the BART and walk the about half mile to the hotel. If I go back to San Francisco I will stay at this hotel again.

This is really a charming old hotel. Do not expect this to be a 5 star perfectly restored Victorian. This is older, a little run down, and rough around the edges, with a price to reflect it's age. And that was exactly what we wanted.
My girlfriend and I had a blast. We had fun in the pub next store, and not having to get a taxi to get back to the hotel was a plus.
The prior month we stayed at the Omni, which was perfect, but at 3 times the price of the Beresford. Depending on what you're looking for, either is fine. We were in the mood for rough and cheap mini vacation

Sadly, this used to be a ' find' now- not so much. Rooms are not terribly well lit ( and my lights would not go on when i woke up early in the morning to go to the airport. Had to dress and pack by the bathroom light! Not a sense of cleanliness in either the room or the bar.
The morning clerk was wearing a not so clean t shirt. Good price great location but won't return.

This is a classic Downtown San Francisco boutique hotel. Built at the turn of the 20th century for single working people (probably with communal hall bathrooms), the rooms and bathrooms are small. That's just part of the charm! Plus, they have managed to retain most of the building's original fixtures, and there's a delightful little bar adjoining downstairs called the White Horse that feels like a 1920s speakeasy.
If you want a spacious room with a huge bathtub and a lobby, this is not for you. But if you need a clean, warm room with a comfy bed, a good treadmill, and free continental
