For over 100 years, the Chancellor Hotel has been a fixture on Union Square. Built for the Panama Pacific International Exposition of 1915, it was the tallest hotel building in San Francisco when it opened for business in 1914. With the memories of the great earthquake of 1906 fresh in everyone's mind, the hotel was built to withstand the greatest quake and would be advertised as "Virtually fire proof".
The Chancellor Hotel is a 3 star hotel located on Union Square, in the heart of San Francisco, on the Powell Street Cable Car Line. Once the tallest hotel building in San Francisco, the Chancellor Hotel has 137 rooms including 2 suites. The rooms are decorated in a contemporary style and are small by today's standard, but very comfortable for two people.
Complimentary Pillow Menu offering 12 different pillows to choose from for your added comfort. The rooms are comfortable for 2 people. The bathrooms are compact. Guest Rooms do not have air conditioning. Disabled access is complicated by the historic nature of the building. Rooms with One Queen Bed or Two Twin Beds have a maximum occupancy of 2 persons.
The historic Clipper Ship Room is located in the heart of San Francisco on Union Square. The room was created in 1937 to commemorate a special era in aviation and Bay Area history: the inauguration of Pan Am's Clipper Ship service from Alameda to the Orient. The rooms' interior is reminiscent of an airplane and boasts an aerial panoramic photo of San Francisco as it was in 1937.
With Super Shuttle no longer servicing SFO, we would recommend a taxi or using a Transportation Network Company such as Lyft or Uber as an alternative to BART. We cannot recommend any of the Shuttle Service providers. On those rare occasions when there is not room to park in the white zone when you arrive, do NOT double park or leave your car unattended at a red or yellow curb.

We spent five nights at the Chancellor Hotel during our time in San Francisco and had a pretty pleasant experience. We checked in pretty late, after midnight, and the person at the front desk was very friendly and helpful, as was everyone else we interacted with during our entire stay. The hotel itself is over 100 years old, so the rooms are not very large, but we knew that going in, so we were okay with that, especially since most of our time was spent outside of the hotel. There was a pretty large closet to store our luggage and hang our clothes, so we made use of that as well. The shower was

Rooms are good enough fr 2 people. Maintainance is decent. Comes with big TV and iron box. Has everything u need fr a peaceful stay. They also provide luggage storage in case u need to checkout and tour the city without carrying ur luggage.
Located in Union square which is a good place to start exploring San Francisco.

Very nice hotel in excellent location.
We got a very nice room on the 15th floor at a reasonable price. Amenities included coffee, cookies, and fruit in the lobby. Nicely renovated rooms with comfortable beds.
One issue arose with the wifi not working for 2 days/nights but hotel was very generous with compensation, as it more than covered our parking for 48 hours with some change!
We would definitely return to the Chancellor Hotel in the future.

You have to take this place for what it is, and that means that, it you are lucky, it will be a great bargain, but if you are unlucky, it will be an uncomfortable experience.
Pros:
+ Good location, right on Union Square.
+ Off-site parking garage for $35/day.
+ Rooms are clean and seem pretty recently updated.
+ Staff are friendly and professional.
+ There are nice little amenities like free cookies, fruits, 2-for-1 drink coupon, and the coffee station (with teas, honey, flavored syrups, etc)
+ Price is about as good as it gets, considering all of the above.
Cons:
- “Due to covid”

I'll tell you some thing that travel agents do not want u to know about. When booking resorts use ʜᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴜʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏᴍ They've got the best deals on resorts! So much better than using expedia, tripadvisor, agoda. That is for sure!!!
Excellent hotel in San Francisco. Close to lots of shopping, very quiet place and a historic building. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The best part was the breakfast, cost $18 but was well worth it. Custom made eggs to order, fresh fruit, great service, very good coffee, would stay there again for the breakfast!

The chancellor is amazing. I had a perfect stay here. Every member of the staff I encountered was super friendly, cheerful and helpful. My room was very cute and clean. The rubber ducky and pillow menu were very thoughtful touches! I was a little worried when reading there was no AC, but between the San Fran breeze coming thru the window, the ceiling fan and the standalone fan they provide, my room was the perfect temperature my entire stay. The shower pressure was perfect. Only negative I would say is the walls are a bit thin, but with my fan on it drowned out the sound perfectly, they also provide

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. I was here for one night and had a very comfortable stay. The rooms are modest but updated. It felt clean and was not loud. They do offer earplugs though which is helpful. There is a small hotel bar where I got some work done and the WiFi worked well which is always important to me. The location is excellent. I would stay here again without hesitation.

Classic hotel that gets it right! They're in a central location, right in the heart of Union Square. Everything's a walking distance away. The cable car runs down the street, so fortunately, the hotel has a loading zone where you can check in really quick and grab a ticket to park in the lot close by for $20 a day. That's a pretty great price.
We got our room for a pretty sweet deal through hotels.com, but when I checked the Chancellor website, I found out that that's the typical price of the hotel. Plus, if you book directly with them, you either get free parking or complimentary

Convenient hotel location. Located right on Powell Street right next to Union Square, this hotel is quite the value. Westfield Centre is only down the street and you have plenty of dining options all around.
I think for the price (hotels are quite expensive in SF!), you can't go wrong. This hotel is convenient and decent enough for a good night's sleep. The staff are also very nice and friendly. They smile and greet you, which is a plus. They are also very helpful in answering questions. The hotel lobby itself is filled with a water dispenser, free coffee, and sometimes even little

A very decent hotel stay for a weekend in SF. My friend was able to get us a deal on a room with 2 beds, and we were so well located for being tourists. The hotel was over 100 years old, we were told, so it definitely had character. With that, there were some "old building problems" but nothing that ruined our stay. We didn't spend a lot of time in the room and I don't remember anything particularly bad about this hotel which means that we had a good stay in my book.

I stayed at the Chancellor after seeing a show in the City - a real "staycation" if you will.
I enjoyed our stay here immensely. Clean rooms, nice beds, well-done bathroom upgrades (even after considering the plumbing is old- they did the best they could with the infrastructure). For the $160 we paid for the night and right there in Union Square- a fantastic deal.
I would definitely stay again, as well as recommend to any family or friend- give they are not snobby and think anything less than a Four Seasons is acceptable.

The Chancellor is a good middle of the road hotel for the budget traveler. Located in the heart of the city, it has just enough balance between pros and cons to make for a satisfactory stay.
So let me be more specific. As far as positives, I'd rate the staff at the top of the list. Everyone I ran into, from the sociable bartender to the cheerful front desk clerk to the cleaning lady were all smiles, and that helps a lot when you're a weary traveller. They also had all the amenities one would need (minus free water - a pet peeve of mine) from reliable free wifi to a selection of soaps

Great bargain boutique hotel . Room was small but very clean and comfy bed. Location was perfect for traveling with 2 teens we felt very safe. Not too long to get to Bill Graham theater. Believe we paid around $212 for 2 full beds not bad for a Fri night.
Check in staff very friendly and appreciated drink coupon for their bar. FYI their bar closes 9pm but bar right next door is open until 2am.
Can walk to Union square and about 20 min walk to Marriot View bar . That bar is a must see! On top floor , floor to ceiling windows and you can watch city lights just amazing!
