This place has so much potential because of the nice decorations and the location and the rooms themselves but they ruined everything by not paying any attention to the temperature of the rooms you are not able to control the temperature of the room and they have the temperature set at 80 degrees so when you wake up in the morning it is like sleeping inside of a sauna very dangerous very unhealthy and completely opposite the point of a hotel where you were supposed to sleep not be woken up by extremely hot temperatures inside your room that you have no ability to control

Blandina was a great tour guide! She had alot of music knowledge and have even met some of the musicians herself. I love that they have an audio tour if you prefer that instead. Great music history in the heart of where it all started for lots.

Fascinating!!! I took the tour of Music City
Wow I was blown away at all the music trivia and info about these SF bands. I had no idea most of these started in SF, enlightened to bands I knew and learned about so many new bands on my tour.
The hotel is very cool each room had a different theme or artist highlighted.
The staircase was a piano and the hotel is 4 wings, 2 floors of rooms and music.
I didn’t stay at the hotel but I did observe that everything was clean, sanitized and I felt they took extra measures to ensure our safety.
I loved the tour guide Blandina! she was fun, informative

This place is another addition to my [spiritual] gypsy-like journey to shedding old wounds during a strange, but beautiful time... ☺️
I stayed in one of the double-bed rooms my first night and it was amazing! Not only is the whole ambiance of the building teeming with musical magic--you truly get that San Francisco landmark feel when you are here.
The staff--which currently include the warm and friendly Julie, Alejandra and Rico--are extremely welcoming and engaging. This is great when you are a black trans-woman bc you just don't know what you are going to get when you belong to a minority

Very cool space, staff are really friendly and everything is very clean and orderly. For hostel price, it's by far one of the nicest and coolest places I've stayed, especially for music lovers. Would definitely stay again!

The gallery is so well done- it’s so fun to listen to the music and look at the photos & read the info. And room was super clean and comfy. Perfect! I had a private room with shared bathroom which I was slightly worried about- but it was wonderful! Felt like my own private bathroom. Great location too. Staff also let me store my luggage until the evening.

I stayed with my wife in a private room. We thought the location was amazing, the price was good, but most of all, we highly recommend Music City Hotel as their staff is responsive, kind, and goes above and beyond to help. They will take care of you! After an unexpected situation arose, the staff (especially Brian, the general manager) did everything possible to make our stay fantastic. I cannot stress how grateful I am for the wonderful staff at Music City Hotel.

Whenever I’m in another city I walk everywhere so I can explore different neighborhoods. It’s the only way to see some cool sites. I came across this place today and thought it was great. Granted I didn’t stay here but I did go in and check out all the cool photos on the gallery walls. The girl employee who I talked to was very friendly and helpful. There’s some merchandise to buy like t-shirts and such. The place looked very clean and I loved the music vibe in here. I’m really glad I was able to stop in and if you’re in the area I say come check it out.

The smell of weed is so pungent, it’s like it runs through the air conditioning. It hits you as soon as you walk in and is stronger in the rooms. There’s also cockroaches in the water faucet where they give free hot water and tea, so I don’t recommend drinking from there. The walls are also very thin and you can hear everything! Do not recommend it.

I was in San Francisco on business. Needed a good place to stay that was near the studio.. wound up getting the Janis Joplin room as I needed my own bathroom. Could not be happier with this place. The bed was comfortable, the shower is hot, the free breakfast is good, parking is close by.. Sure it's a hostel and not a 5 star resort but it's the nicest hostel I've ever seen. People need to have realistic expectations as to what a hostel is. In all honesty I was sad to have to leave. Will definitely return to this place on future trips to SF. Rudy and Jeff were super cool and accommodating

I would like to say The music city Hotel was an interesting experience. It was the only hotel/hostel that was open due to the closures of some international hostels. My Hostelworld suddenly closed its doors temporarily. Looking for a place on a budget someone told me about music city never heard of it. Once arriving at the location, The outside office interior looked so good but once I enter inside I was pretty amazed at how clean and shiny it was. Now there is no elevator which is a downside and there's only one exit which kind of concerns me because the next day there was a bit of construction

Very cute, clean, and affordable! I stayed in their 6 person dorm and the beds were comfy. they also have outlets on all the bunk beds which is such a plus! There are lockers as well! The front desk staff is really sweet and they even held my stuff for me because I arrived before check in time. One of the best hotel/hostels in the city!

I want thank everyone for their generosity and support. Ms. Shirley was my go to person. She knew the locations along with the bus route. I could rely on her to make sure I knew where I was going aka Mom Shirley. Carissa, the Entertainment Coordinator, she was great she made sure that the visitors and residents had a great time. Jorge who was great guy, he helped me find some great deals!!! The front office staff members were awesome, the J's ,were willing to help an assist me in anyway to make my stay comfortable. I apologize if I missed anyone's name. I want thank everyone for making

I stayed here the past weekend for pride and I think it's a great deal for a hostel. I checked in Friday and checked out Monday, however I never ended up sleeping a full night here due to the fact that I ended up with my friends. But I would stay here again.

I am very disappointed w the false advertising of this hotel. I booked it for my siblings & the photos aren't what the rooms look like. The bathroom is not in the room but outside down a creep hallway. I did enjoy the festivities around the hotel , but the hotel itself was not what the photos portray.

I chose this place as I thought that I'd have the opportunity to attend gigs and meet interesting people. However, I was very disappointed when I saw that there was almost no common room (just a 4 seater table), the hostel closes at 11pm (can't sit anywhere except stairs) - I was on my laptop working and ended up bouncing from staircase to staircase as they'd shut everything. There is no free breakfast, and you can't even buy one as there's no in site kitchen.
There are tons of better hostels at the same price point in SF - go elsewhere!

Update: This place is stellar! I stay here regularly. It's come to be my #1 choice, when I return to SF for work. The front desk staff is accommodating and amazing: Thank you -Jes, Jeff, Rose and Jeffery. Great location, value, and clean! The decor is vibrant and of course, music-artsy themed with cool photographs of San Francisco musicians.

However this review is long overdue to celebrate a particular front desk staff member named Jes. He is a stand-up guy. I deal with him about 90 percent of the time, and he is constantly going out of his way for all the guests. He is amazing and supportive

I wanted to try this place cause I like funky places and am a musician. Room was decent but unfortunately I feel like I got ripped off. I booked two nights but had to leave early due to a family emergency. I told the front desk when they opened at 9 this morning and they said no problem we'll credit your card for the second night. When I turned in the keys at noon they said "Sorry it's Hotel policy that you have to give 48 hours notice or forfeit your money."

The good news is that the management contacted me and made it right.

I stayed here for three nights at a price of $84 per night for a queen bed and shared bathroom. I think it's a pretty decent place considering it is very well-situated. Japantown is only a quick 15 minute walk and Chinatown is 20 minutes away. It's also close to the union square shopping area. In short, you can pretty much walk to wherever you need to and there are lots of places to explore.

I don't know why people complain about loud music when the name of the hotel is literally music city hotel lol. With that being said, the music from the basement isn't overly loud enough

Really a great buy for a simple and cute ambiance. A clean place to sleep, shower, change, and go.

I didn't see any evidence of bed bugs on my stay but i bagged my luggage regardless. Hostels are notorious for these hard and expensive to resolve issues.

The music studio shuts down for quiet hours and the doors lock for guests with access cards.

. Its not luxurious by any means. If you're looking for that go somewhere else and pay more. This is for simple travelers who sleep and shower. A very small cooking space and social area is available but I didn't use it. It has a

I came here few days ago. When we checked in, the front guy was pretty okay. First of all, when we first arrive here, it was strange. We thought it was music studio or something. Anyways,
Pros:
-Gates are locked and can be opened by Room cards or calling the front.
-Bed is Okay. No problem with the bed.little bit squeaky but it was comfy enough
-Space is pretty good. I thought the room would be small but it was big enough to rest during our vacation and put our stuffs.

Cons:
-The music coming from studio could be little bit distracting. I like bands so it didnt bother me but if you are not fan

This is my second stay here. I went with family so I got the junior suite. And I must say I was much happier this time . The second floor is quite and the junior suite has its own bathroom and shower.

We got into town early in the morning and the manager was nice enough to let us store our stuff in his office so we could check out the city. I really like this place all the staff are professional and helpful. When it was time to check out they set up the shuttle for you to go to the airport one less stress you have to worry about. I would recommend the encore express to everyone visiting San Fransic
