In 1990 I founded MK Salon, a friendly oasis on the Upper East Side NYC, because I saw that families wanted a place where they could solve all their hair-care needs in just one stop.

We are truly an example of the "American dream". We came from different countries for different reasons, and we each offer different hairstyling talents, skills, and expertise. We share and work together as a team. We speak to each other in English, but we let our clientele speak any language which makes them feel at home.
We have been working with male clients for more than 30 years. Men want to look and feel their best, but they don't always know who to trust or where to turn. MK Salon can make you a younger looking you in just ten minutes. Cover up that grey as much or as little as you like. You might think the man behind the Cambodian-American Foundation for Education is rich. He's not. CAFFE's founding director is a hairstylist in New York City who works six days a week in his own Lexington Avenue hair salon. Marshall Kim, 50, survived the Killing Fields and escaped from the Khmer Rouge in 1979.

Everyone here is simply amazing. I could say a thousand good things about how great my experience was here. Everyone that works here are the sweetest people who you can tell genuinely love what they do. They are experts. Here is a before and after of my hair. You'll see it's night and day. I am so thankful for MK salon! Having great hair has always been important for me and I went to many salons which I was disappointed with. When I met Alex he quickly knew what color would work best with my complexion. I was amazed by his beautiful job while still keeping my hair healthy - I have received many compliments ever since! Great hair salon. I was walking by for years before I discovered that place. Now I highly recommend it to anyone. Mr. Kim basically saved my hair after it was so damaged at the different place! He is doing amazing job for my 2 daughters as well (10&14 y.o.). This place is a true jewel on UES with reasonable prices. Thank you MK. You are the best!

My experience was great! I, not only was so extremely happy with my hair cut and color, I also enjoyed my time with the salon because the staff is so nice and professional. Gail my hair stylist knows what she is doing, and has years of experience! She didn't try to over sell you on products or treatments, but gives you options on what will work best for your hair type/length etc. She is also just a really lovely and hard working person, which makes the experience all the more enjoyable.

Yesterday was my first time back in any salon for over nine months. I decided to find a salon close to my apartment (no longer interested in a long salon commute post-COVID), so I did a lot of research to find a place in my neighborhood that would have a reasonable combination of good value and quality. I'm glad to share that I believe I found that at MK! Over the last several months, my hair had fallen into serious disrepair--fraying ends, breakage, and even some hair loss due to stress. Liza is one of the best colorists in NY and it is high time to make a public proclamation. It’s been several years since I found Liza at another salon and, ever since, have been happily going to MK Salon, where she is part of a convivial team of several other stylists/colorists. Before Liza, I was a client at some of the most high-profile, exclusive salons in Manhattan and was never quite satisfied. Sure, I looked very well, but I always knew that I could do better. Hair stylist that did an amazing job at rescuing my hair is Kelly! Kelly, thank you for taking all of the disgusting damaged brittle straw like hair and somehow making me look amazing in a bob. I have had a bob done before and it's hard to not get the ugly bump at the center back of the head but you don't have to worry about any of that if your hair is in Kelly's hand. She really took her time with thinning out the back since I have thick Ecuadorian hair :) she's phenomenal. Marshall Kim has created a very special hair salon in an extremely convenient location. I travel 100 miles to get my hair done there as my color and cut always garner compliments. I also love the keratin treatment for smooth silky hair, even though I’ve been coloring my hair for many years. Excellent customer service, serene environment and the prices are very reasonable. I can’t say enough good things about Marshall and his team; it’s the reason he has a loyal following for decades.

I got a not-so-great haircut at another salon that made me extra nervous to get my hair cut this time around, especially because I wanted a more drastic change, going from long hair to shoulder-length. I made an appointment over the phone with Liza day of. Liza was very personable. I don't know any of the hair terms, so I just showed her some reference photos. She was able to work off that, tailoring it a bit more to work on me specifically. I love my haircut now weeks later, as much as I did when I first walked out of the salon.

I visited MK Salon 4 years ago while traveling from HK to NC on the recommendation of a friend in NYC. BEST haircut ever by ALEX. Since I've repatriated to North Carolina and I still love to have my hair done by Alex. He is straightforward, will NOT use a razor on your hair, and gives the best cut. I had my "messed up" haircut RE-CUT by Alex in March. I'm returning at the end of this month to have him cut and highlight my hair. I love this salon! Marshall is so kind too.

Liza did my hair for a special event recently and she did a fantastic job. I got SO many compliments on my hair. She took her time with me and carefully delivered the voluminous but still elegant look I was going for. At first, I was concerned as she was spraying a fair amount of hairspray - she assured me it was soft hairspray and needed to keep the style (I reshaped my hair just a little bit when I got home to make it a little more my look) - she was right. My hair held all night. It was full and elegant and stylish. She knows what she is doing! Sometimes I feel like I get my hair done

I called specifically to ask if they use a straight razor for me and my friend for our beards and they said yes. When I walked in they didn't, and then made us wait for a normal haircut for people that walked in afterwards, because the guy couldn't answer a question properly.

MK is a master. Whether you need a color or cut you’ll come away feeling like a new person. I initially brought in my 15 and 17-year-old daughters and I was so impressed I have been a repeat customer ever since. My girls won’t go anywhere else.. The price is right and service is great. MK is a clown as well, A true entertainer! Nicest guy around..

I received a cut and blowout here a few months back. Both came out fine, and the woman who did my hair was such a sweetheart. The owner is incredibly nice, and prices are extremely reasonable given the area. I made a same day appointment right before the weekday lunch crowd, and it wasn't busy the entire time I was there. Very relaxing environment and unpretentious.

I hadn't found a new place to get my haircut since moving to NYC, so I've been letting it grow out a lot between cuts, but as I was preparing to go out of town for a conference I thought I REALLY needed to get a haircut before I went. After calling around a bunch of salons and gasping at their quotes for a haircut ($250 - $400), I turned to my beloved Yelp and found MK Salon. They quoted me $45 for a cut and blow dry, so I was preeeetty skeptical by the drastic price difference. However, I decided What-The-Heck and walked on over to the salon.

Just had a hair cut at MK Salon with Alex, I love my new hair. It was easy to book an appointment and the salon is very clean and bright. I haven't had a hair cut for the last 5 months and since i moved i needed to find a new hair stylist. I work around the area and have notice MK Salon but never had the time to go until I took a day off today, and I'm so glad i did!
