I will be very happy when my lease is up. This is the WORST place I've ever lived. The most b.s. company ever. This place should be shut down completely. They do "fumigation" and the following week you see ROACHES. They really act like they care when in actuality they do NOT. DO NOT RENT FROM THESE scammers.

Worst company ever to rent from they don’t wanna do nothing but have the nerve to send out emails and texts when it’s rent time. Building I stay in they changed the doors on the building to were the mailman can’t even get to the mailbox they keep saying they gone give the mailman a key n it’s been 3 months. Apartments are bad I wouldn’t recommend them to my dog.

Absolutely AWFUL company. Basically managed by Loyola, their units, even the expensive ones aren't worth it. The WiFi in the building is garbage and they do increase the rent yearly. Renewing the lease and attempting to do anything of the sort is confusing and people are not very responsive. Loyola students, LOOK ELSEWHERE!

It is impossible to do business with this organization. They require tenants to jump through ridiculous hoops for a sub-par building with many issues and rent that is far too high.

The location is the only good thing about this building. Everything is literally falling apart for there Chicago and state location. Repair team also is really lazy, and inconsiderate about the care they put into their work. Can't wait to move, will miss the location but not the management company.

I don't know where to start with this place. This is the worse decision I've ever made. From my mail being stolen, my name taken off their mailing address list, being threatened to be evicted by the leasing office for paying rent two days late because my pay days changed due to change in jobs. And that was the only month that I was EVER late. I tried to call the leasing office and explain to them that my pay schedule changed and the lady with ascent yelled at me and said she was adding a late fee to my bill AFTER I already paid the rent.

I refuse to pay for a tiny overpriced studio apartment

Apartment itself was great, love the space. but the kitchen is unusable. they refused to let me bring over a few things before the move in date yet spent NO TIME fixing any of the electricity issues. half my outlets don’t work, i have no stove and the only outlet in the kitchen doesn’t work so my microwave has to sit in the dinning room if i want to have any food at all. not to mention the buzzer doesn’t work (only for my place) so we have missed the people to setup my wifi multiple times! it’s a $50 charge each time, I have contacted the office multiple times about these issues and they

Every other week, my apartment (really the entire floor), smells like methane gas. I complain every time and their only reaponse is "maintenance is working on the pipes". The smell is so bad that I can't even stand to be in my own apartment during the day. Thank God for metropolis cafe accross the street.
Theyre also trying to raise my rent, but they haven't laid any upgrades to the place. The elevators are broken at least twice a month. Same goes for the laundry machines.
Stay away from this place

3 times in two weeks and the power has gone out. Nice area but building matienience is trash. Elevators always go out every month. Heat barely works. AC always cuts off. Every month there’s at least one thing wrong.

Right off the bat, if you are looking at staying with the Sovereign, or any building owned by Lakeside Management, who owns the Sovereign, look elsewhere.

I lived in the Sovereign for many years. The building was purchased a few years back by Lakeside Management, which is a subsidiary of Loyola University of Chicago. I can honestly say that the personnel of this building has significantly decline over the past few years. They tout that all utilities are included. Sure, but you know that it is actually accounted into your rent, so they are not doing you any real favors. They tout security

Horrible. Unprofessional. I expressed SERIOUS interest in an expensive unit and no one would ever return my calls, emails, or anything. I even went on a tour and in my follow up calls and emails, the leasing agent Chris didn't remember who I was even though I had JUST toured the freaking building! FYI to anyone from the company reading this: good luck getting someone to sign a lease if you can't even return their calls! Students in Rogers Park -- don't waste your time with this BS company run by LOYOLA. Look elsewhere, Roger's Park is a beautiful neighborhood. I hate that it is infested with this

When I first moved here, I had no heat and no hot water. I was going to bed in my winter coat and going over to other people's houses to shower. It was insane. I called 411 and after that my room heated up a little bit, but not by much - and it didn't last long. The water was still terrible, even after they tried to fix it. I would call and say I needed hot water, and the guy at the front desk said I would have to wait. Ugh, it was a disaster. I was told that they can not deny you heat or hot water, so that is why I called 411. It took a long time for anything to get fixed, though. I

I really love the amenities, price point, and neighborhood of Sovereign. However, scheduling to view a unit has been nearly impossible. Call, voicemail. Call, voicemail. No thanks. If you're that hard to reach to see a unit, I'd hate to see how that translates into maintenance and general upkeep/communication.

I wouldnt recommend this company to anyone. They not only are incompetent, they break the law. I moved into an apartment with glass smashed into the carpet, garbage everywhere and half painted because they "forgot" I was moving in that day. They consistently break into my apartment when I've made it very clear I expect a phone call if they plan on coming in to do any maintenance. It's currently so cold in my apartment I can see my breath and when I asked to have the buildings heat turned on, they told me they didn't know how to fix the problem and hung up. Do not lease with this company. It's unlivable

I have lived in the Sovereign for 4 years. Do unto others as you want done unto you is my advice. I am always nice and speak to all staff in the building. As a result, they are very helpful. I am " the girl always downstairs"; that is my claim to fame. But I truly love the staff in the building. Whenever I have a complaint, they fix it automatically. They do their best to accommodate any needs I have and make the experience more like home. Being the girl downstairs, I always see how rude the residence are to the staff at the Sovereign. The privilege that people think they have is sickening

The service is going down hill. The guy who works today, Millton (March, 27) was very rude and careless. I love the receptionist who normally works here during the weekdays. 0 star for that dude.

I've lived here since January of 2015 and I'm not sure where all these negatives comments are coming from. Lived for a year on the 6th floor and now signed another year up on the 10th.

Everything works flawlessly, door staff are amazing, and they're bringing a fresh new face to the entire building. If anything breaks, you call the desk, they put in a work order, and fix it the next day. My fridge stopped cooling to a safe temperature because it was old and the next day I had a brand new one put it. Check it out!

UPDATE 8/20/16: STILL AMAZING lol

Hello, future tenants of the Sovereign. I don't write many Yelp reviews, but I truly believe the Sovereign warrants a negative review and I really hope I can convince anyone who is considering living there to reconsider another option (any other option).

This was the worst apartment I have lived in. The units are expensive and the maintenance is less than acceptable. Come to think of it, all of my work requests were written on post-it notes by the door staff, so it is very possible that the maintenance workers did not receive them.

In addition, management is more concerned about convenience

I've never lived in The Sovereign (1040 W. Granville ave), but I took a tour this past week and my experience with them seems to have some connections to the complaints/issues that other reviews have brought up.

At first It looked gorgeous online (their website, Rent.com, etc) and the lobby was stunning (the building used to be a hotel). However, I stayed in that lobby quite a while: despite my having made a 3 o'clock appointment, ZERO tour guides were available at 3pm. I had to wait HALF AN HOUR before a tour guide finally came down, and even then he didn't apologize or even seem

This review is both for the building and for the sales guy who showed us the apartments, copied information off my state ID for some reason, and works for Lakeside Management.

My boyfriend and I came by to check out the apartments, because this was suggested by the apartment finding agent we were working with. From when I called before, I knew they would try to nickel and dime us and have fees for everything. What I wasn't expecting was overpriced apartments we wouldn't want to live in anyway or the bait and switch tactics that took up two hours of our time.
