If you have a particular question, acute difficulty, or if you are someone who learns best in one-on-one environments, private lessons may be best for you. Each lesson uniquely addresses your individual needs.
I knew the instructor was a dancer and I expected a lot of techniques on how to move properly. I didn't realize it was mostly about paying extreme attention to what was happening in my body and figuring out myself what worked best. As it is turning out, this is a really effective way to learn how to walk (among other things) because someone else's body mechanics are not imposed on me, I use what I have to get the best result that I can.
She offers a refreshing weave of yoga and Feldenkrais movement, encouraging the student move from an outward focus to the inner present moment experience. Her instructions encourage slowing down so that one can notice, listen, investigate, and experiment. The end result is the possibility of finding a refuge in one's own body.
The best way to explore any movement practice is live and in person with a trained instructor. That way you get the benefit of experienced eyes observing you as you experiment with new ways of moving. An observant instructor can help keep you safe and push you in productive directions. Once you have some experience in private sessions or in classes and workshops, you may benefit from practicing at home.
