Update: still no security deposit after 3 months and at least 4 different phone calls. They’re giving me the run around saying that they spoke to the general manager. I don’t believe a word they say, stay away from this place
I lived here from 2017-2021 and I recommend you stay away from this place. The management has changed and leaves much to be desired. If you like over priced apartments with an unkempt building then this is the place for you. I dealt with constant fire alarms going off at all hours of the day while I was working from home on video calls. Contacted the management about

I love the layout of the building and apartments. However, the way the place is run leaves much to be desired. When I moved into my apartment the trash from the last tenant was still in the hallway right in front of my door. When I told leasing, they said the cleaning staff was not there that day. My dishwasher, freezer, and toilet were also not to adequate standards of operations. Like they didn't even check the apartment prior to me moving in. And the AC has been out 3 of the 4 weeks I've been living there. Leasing office does not seem concerned. But they want their expensive rent. Don't bother

I've lived at a number of apartments, and this is the only one I'd recommend you keep away from. As far as the good, my apartment itself had a nice layout with ample space and a nice view of Broad Street. The location was nice for those working at the nearby hospital. Unfortunately, the good stops there.
The biggest issue is with the management. Even though the management turned over several times over the past year, the culture of dysfunction and overt dismissal of tenent experience has been constant. Over the year I lived there, I had no AC for the hottest month and a half of the Summer (in

Very bad management group and complex.
This place is not worth the money!
High employee turnover should have been the first major hint of a bad apartment complex.
Absolutely terrible maintenance and support. They admitted for weeks they did not have a maintenance person and without any shame or worry.
Heat has been broken for 6 weeks in my unit. No replies or assistance from the office.
In 5 months I have lived here, the Elevators have NEVER functioned properly. Be prepared to walk up to your apartment.
They use the excuse of “historic” property In order to hide from doing basic upkeep

Do NOT live here. There are constant problems with the AC and heat in the building. The management is constantly changing. The management gives out space heaters when the heat is broken and states that they are upholding their end of the lease by providing space heaters. The heat and AC do not work in multiple units and it never gets fixed. The heat has been broken in many units since October/November and still is not fixed (it is March). I would highly recommend saving yourself the hassle and headache and not live here.

Boosting this review because I dealt with all the exact same things.
Please do not choose to live here. In short, we were given an apartment in poor condition, had no working AC during the whole summer, had no working heater during the whole winter, and have had no action from management to these concerns. It is an absolute waste of money to live at Deco, especially for this price point and all their marketing as a luxury apartment.
Long version (completely honest and unexaggerated):
1. Upon initial arrival to the apartment, it was a mess. There had been construction/painting done, and there

Absolutely one of the best places I ever rented. The gym in itself is worth it; in addition, Brian and staff are very friendly and quick to address any apartment issues. I lived there two years without any issues. Its a cool place, brings you back to the artistic environment of the 1920s without any funny smells. I hated to leave but had no choice since the Corona allowed me to work from home in Fla.

We lived here for a year and the heating and cooling was a constant issue. We attempted talking to management on several occasions and there was little within thier control. Don't let the looks deceive you, there is a reason the price tag on this place is lower. There were several 80+ degree days in the summer. I don't mean it was out here and there, I mean it was out for ~month. Similar instances happened multiple times. Residents should protect themselves. Notify management in writing the first day this occurs and keep temperature records so that you can take action if needed later. Do not let

Deco is hands down amazing. The staff are responsive and so kind (you always see a smile on their face). The building is stunning and is always clean and the amenities are wonderful. Monthly resident events such as dinner, breakfast, paint night are a blast and treat. The area might seem a little iffy with vacant buildings but don't let that deter you. There are so many awesome places within a short walking distance (great food / restaurants only steps away).

I'm always suspicious of 5 star ratings for apartments, but deco is actually really nice.
the location is great, right downtown and central to everything in rva. normal urban safety rules apply, but I never felt unsafe in the neighborhood. amenities are great, almost always clean and well-maintained. the staff is really helpful and responsive. my apt is beautiful, all new appliances, very clean when i moved in. most of the other residents are young professionals or grad students, and keep to themselves (and most importantly, I can barely hear them at all through the walls unless it&apos

Staying here during a 6-month assignment. While the building and Broad Street remains under renovation, it is a wonderful place. Accessible to VCU, downtown restaurants, and places of business. I'm in a 1 bedroom unit that is just the right size.
The first floor amenities are outstanding. A lounge, a club room complete with kitchen, pool tables, and lots of space for entertaining. A weight room with up to date equipment and space to workout without being crowded. A business center with a printer and enough space for a small business meeting.
The office staff and incredibly friendly
