Throughout my years living at 14 West there's many pros and a few cons. Starting with the pros, location is excellent in the heart of downtown Surrounded by shopping, many restaurants, a variety of grocery stores. You have everything you need at your fingertips. Another is transportation, you have cta buses and the red line within walking distance of your door.

I actually ended up blindly renting my apartment here based on price alone as I relocated here for work in the city & boy was I surprised when I showed up and saw how amazing the location is!! It's a 30-40 minute walk from the heart of the city, 15 minute walk to the lakefront, AND also right next to a bunch of amazing restaurants, bars & a Jewel Osco that's a 5 minute walk away.
Not only is the location top knotch, but the staff is absolutely incredible! I moved here without knowing anyone at all & they have been so helpful in letting me know what spots are popping in the city & helping me become

I think it’s a great apartment to have for the price. My girlfriend and I moved here straight out of college and its been really seamless. I’d recommend it to anyone looking to live in a vibrant neighborhood. There’s a ton of bars and restaurants close by.
Pros:
-close to the beach
-shopping
-night life
-great rental price
-public transit
Cons
-old building
-Parking sucks
-elevators are really slow
-tiny toilet

Love this building! A gem in the middle of Gold Coast. The units are renovated but still have the personality and charm of more classic architecture. The building has everything one would need including updated gym and rooftop is beautiful with one of the best views of the lake. Above all, the location is amazing!

Looking for a one bedroom apartment, this building immediately caught my attention. While this is an older building, and it shows in some place, the staff has truly made the living experience great. Whenever I have a question, request, or something needs fixing, they are always super quick to assist and with a smile. The common areas (gym, laundry, etc.) are always very clean as well which is much appreciated. Some other reviews have spoken on the nose levels, being next to a popular late night bar and alley. I will say if my window is open I will hear any yelling or activities going on in the

We've lived here for one year now and we've loved it. Our unit is beautiful - I gasped the first time we walked in and saw the high ceilings, white everything, and light pouring in the big windows. And since the building allows using nails (provided you fill them later), we've been able to make our space even more homey. We love having bike storage and a gym, and we LOVE our rooftop deck. Trash, recycling, and mail are made easy. Andrew in the office is a great guy and puts you at ease during the move-in process. Garcia from maintainance has been the bomb with the repairs we've needed - it's always

Awesome location in the heart of the Gold Coast within walking distance of the CTA Red Line, grocery stores, restaurants, bars, shopping— you name it! I moved here from Florida and didn’t know much about Chicago neighborhoods, but I LOVE this area!
Although the building itself is a bit older, it is very well kept and always super clean. Renovations were recently done on the elevators and there have been virtually no problems since. Between the key fob operated front doors and doorman on duty every evening, the building always feels safe. Awesome rooftop

Nightmare on Elm Street
I needed a place in a pinch and got what I deserved: Pinched.
Management is nice enough until you decide you're leaving. Trying to coordinate a move-out was almost impossible; the manager passive-aggressively emailed me about all of her appointments she had booked to confirm my movers' arrival an hour after they had arrived and after I sent her four emails confirming their arrival time in the weeks prior to the move. The best part of this situation? The leasing office is "open" at 10AM and a maintenance worker (side note - the gentlemen working maintenance at this building

I've lived here for 3 years, so I've seen it all when it comes to the bad. From constantly broken elevators to incidents involving police and guns outside, to cockroaches, plumbing issues and feces in the trashroom. The worst part is that since the building is old, there is neverending construction, so many days it feels like living on a construction site, with extremely loud drilling shaking the walls. The building management changes often and they change the rules too - some people get rent extensions, others don't, they switch around the duration of the rent period too, to keep increasing the

This is the worst place I've ever lived. If I could give them zero stars, I would. The maintenance and staff is unresponsive and not empathetic. They mess up your monthly bills continually, the building is infested with cockroaches. When we told them about the issue we were told they were "waterbugs" and it took over two month of complaining for them to do anything about it. The radiators are old and make loud clicking noises to the point where it wakes us up in the middle of the night. The pipes in wall are old and make loud clicking noise. They'll turn off the water randomly

I've lived here for a year and a half and the experience has been great! First, the location is perfect! It's close to everything you could ever need. I always joke that if I ever get stormed in I could literally walk less that 200 feet outside to get some sort of food. From the red line, restaurants, grocery stores, shopping, the lake, ect. The staff and management team are absolutely wonderful. They are all super nice and will help out with whatever you need. They host several events throughout the year for you to get to know your neighbors better and other vendor events where you typically

I have been living here for 5 months now and I absolutely LOVE it. I can't believe how centrally located it is - it's close to basically everything. There are 2 large supermarkets, a good mix of bars and restaurants, the CTA red line, retail like Starbucks, CVS and Walgreen's - and it's all within 3 blocks.
The building itself is very charming and feels homey as you come in. On the inside, it's very well maintained and I believe all apartments have hardwood-floors which are gorgeous. The leasing officers have been very helpful and thoughtful (shout out to Olivia!). The doormen, Greg and Lennard

So my girlfriend and I lived here, this building is horrible. There is only two elevators one that works only half the time, The one that does work takes so long which is unfortunate for the people who live on the higher levels. The property managers downstairs are rude and also very rude to my guests. There is constant construction work somewhere in the building during the day there is a constant banging. The building is old also with no ac. Just do yourself a favor and keep looking. We're unfortunately stuck with a one year lease in hell.

I lived in this building for a month, under a sublease. The apartment had its flaws-no AC and older structures and appliances.
HOWEVER- you can't beat the location, the building is very quiet and outside the building is pretty quiet too--I kept the windows open all month and was never woken up by noise.
The building was clean, did not smell, and I never saw a single bug the entire time I lived there.
The rooftop is actually very nice, with a grill, tables, and new lawn chairs!
The staff was wonderful. Especially Michael- MICHAEL IS AWESOME. He is probably the nicest and most helpful property

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT LIVE HERE. I have lived in Chicago for over 7 years and each year I lived in a new neighborhood. I loved the Gold Coast but this is by far the worst apartment I've ever been affiliated with. Between the noise pollution, bug infestation, and poor management I had to move out mid-lease.
There were roaches, not water bugs but freaking roaches in my apt and they attempted to give me a hotel for a few days so they could fumigate. if you could only imagine, that was the last straw.
But wait it gets better, I had a college friend that lived on the first floor the

I have lived here for three years and truly am counting down the minutes until I leave. I just do not know where to begin. In the past month I have not had hot water for a total of 8 days and even when the water was back I had about the water pressure of dribbling water out of your mouth. Currently, both elevators are broken and I live on one of the top floors. Yes, BOTH elevators are broken. This building has been nothing but a problem for almost the entirety of the time I have lived here. If you like getting your packages stolen, please do not live here as the office staff will tell you that

The star rating is based upon the living experience several years ago.
Several years ago, 14 West Elm felt like a deal. It was not elegant, but the apartments are/were at least spacious and the location is/was exceptionally convenient. You could live in the Gold Coast for not an arm and a leg. Farmers market every Saturday behind the building during the Summer is also great.
The negatives are still the same: the noise pollution (and it's the same if you live on a higher floor, I can't imagine how people in this building sleep on the lowest floors) from the bar crowd nearby is awful

I have lived here for almost a year. Management-specifically Michael and Ryan I would rate at a 5! Both guys are extremely helpful and quick to respond. They are so friendly and always ask how things are going, and truely want their residents to be happy. It's been an overall great experience living here!
Only cons include carpet not being the cleanest, noise from the hangge uppe, and laundry is expensive.

I just barely moved to chicago without a place to live. I was desperately calling every apartment complex looking for an apartment when I called Ryan at 14 West Elm. Ryan was awesome! I felt like he was on my side and worked hard to help me out as much as possible. He found me a lease the same day I called, had me come in for a tour that same day, and got me moved in three days later.
It's not like living in the Trump, but I like my apartment and so far management (aka Ryan) has been extremely helpful.
