I've been going to Top coat for over 2 years and I never had any problems. But I took my sister to get her nails done. She had a dip manicure with tips by Brian on 12/20/21. He was extremely rude as well as did not put any lotion or cuticle oil on her nails. Vy was a sweetheart and noticed how Brian was talking to my sister and did put lotion and cuticle on my sisters nails. One of her nails was smudged even after getting it redone. I will not be returning to top coat unfortunately as I am very disappointed with the way Brian talked to my sister.

I came as a walk in. They told me to wash my hands and get seated. I showed the nail technician what I wanted and she exactly replicated it. She finished my gel full set with no-chip polish & nail art within an hour and the nails turn out soo much better than expected. I had Helen do my nails. the french tip is exceptional, and the shape is perfect.

I've been coming to Top Coat since they opened this location back in 2018. I was working at the Merchandise Mart and needed to get my nails done, and I found them on Yelp. I first met the staff and owners when I was a student at UIC, they had a nail salon in the area called Maxwell Nail Spa at that time, and one day I realized the service wasn't the same anymore when they weren't there. When I say it's truly the best service I can ask for from a nail salon, I really mean it because they actually take their time on your service, and at each station they set a timer for however

The technicians are very talented but the establishment as a whole is so unprofessional. I would recommend you only come here if you are not in a hurry and have an open schedule.
1. I made an appointment during my work lunch break and they started 40 mins later than planned.
2. I made an appointment and they moved me to two hours later without asking me or telling me so that I could avoid paying an Uber there and wasting my time. I had a wedding that day and has to find walk into a random place.
3. Today I had an appointment at 12 PM and it turns out the technician did not

I always have a great experience at this salon. It's extremely clean, bright, and all the technicians do a great job. It's definitely been my go-to salon since I moved to the area. Cleanliness and mask-wearing are very important, and their color selection is top notch! It's definitely not cheap, but for the location and quality of work, it's to be expected. Bottom line, I would recommend Top Coat to anyone in need of a quality nail experience.

Randomly found this place, called at 3pm and got an appointment for 5pm, and Julie did an INCREDIBLE job with my nails!
She patiently soaked my last set of dip with tips/extensions off and was SO careful to preserve my natural nail and file gently (and didn't just yank the old nails off like some salons!), which was great because I have suuuper weak and brittle natural nails. I have been coming here for my nail pampering for years and even supported their small business through the pandemic because I felt they took all the right precautions. The manger D is very nice and Vy & Helen are amazing nail technicians. I am remiss I didn't write a review sooner - it would have been five stars!

Went on Memorial Day and they were only taking walk-ins, no appointments. Arrived shortly after they opened for a regular pedicure and gel manicure and didn’t have to wait. By the time I was done there was a wait for walk-ins.

Updating my review. I moved from the area and was excited to come back to this nail salon after a first experience. After yesterday, I will never return and I recommend that you don't either. I requested an ombré dip manicure and showed the nail technician a picture of what I wanted. Once she started to do the ombré, I realized that she was not experienced in doing this design. I've gotten it multiple times and it's no reason that each hand should take 45 minutes. And the ombré itself does not blend correctly (see pics below). Five stars all the way! Friends and I were in town and after a couple of days of walking and exploring, we needed some rest and a refresh. We found Top Coat on Yelp and it happened to be directly across the street from our hotel (we stayed at the Moxy). My friend got a pedi and I got a mani. As for my experience, it was great from start to finish. I wish I got my tech's name because she did a wonderful job shaping my nails. It's been a week and they still look great. The space was clean and they had health and safety measures set in place. I wish I could pack them up and bring them back

Normally love coming to Top Coat, it's my go to spot! Unfortunately i had a less than stellar no chip pedicure from Chloe yesterday. She cut my foot with the file/buffer tool and was bleeding so much had to get a bandaid. My big toenails were also cut to very different lengths so it looks odd (one clearly shorter than the other). I'll probably request a different tech next time.
On a positive, Tina did an amazing job on my powder dip manicure! I requested a colorful design and she was super easy going about it (even though i know it was more work.) Thank you Tina!!!

I love this nail salon! I've had multiple people do my nails here, (Helen, Tina) and they have done a great job! I'm very particular about the shape I want, and I get dip which would last 4 weeks if I wanted it to. My nails grow fast. They are very efficient, I have done an appointment and a walk in on a Friday afternoon. I was going to another place in streeterville and they just are not as good especially with the dip.

Vy exceeded my expectations! I just moved into river north and I needed a new nail technician. I was a little nervous to try a new place, but top coat nail spa did an AMAZING job.
Not only is Vy super nice and friendly, but her work is amazing! I showed her a picture if my inspiration and she perfectly matched it. She worked so hard and did it with a smile on her face the whole time.
Can't wait to already be back for my next appointment!

I typically do my own nails but I don't happen to have my nail kit with me. I haven't had the time to get my nails done and by the time i'm free during the week everything is usually closed. Today I happened to have time and decided I really need to get a manicure. Especially after i almost tore a nail off while trying to fix my bed and breaking a nail at the gym.

So after posting this review the owner was quick enough to reply to me stating he did a thorough search and viewed the cameras. He then claimed there was no one with the name of Vy or Sara working in the salon, which is a blatant lie or that he suffers from mild amnesia or he is simply not a good owner who knows the names of his staff.
There are other reviews on here which refer to the technicians, some of them have clearly included the names Sara & Vy. Just saying!
