Having lived in a Slater apartment this year, I strongly urge anyone considering renting TO NOT RENT. The apartments are poor quality and painted over and have frequent maintenance issues.
More significantly, the owner, Larry Slater, refuses to do maintenance on his own buildings and used profanity and hung up when I submitted basic maintenance requests, despite never missing a rent payment. The poor customer service is honestly astonishing from the owner of this company.
again, DO NOT RENT.

Slater realty is the best, they really care about your needs and do their best to accommodate: I have a service animal and they were so kind about it and helpful and made sure my dog and I felt welcomed, I've also had minor issues and they have been quick and responsive as soon as something comes up!

These people are absolutely horrible landlords. It's next to impossible to get in touch with them, and when you do they are really sketchy. For example, once when trying to drop off rent, they lied about being in their office at a certain time and said that rent was late even though there was no one there to receive it.
They will take any bit of money they can squeeze out of you, even going as low as sending debt collectors for cleaning fees even though there was absolutely mention of cleaning fees earlier. They take advantage of their tenants.

I would not be surprised if Slater Realty is involved in a class action lawsuit in the near future. These folks are petty scam artists.
I had the same experience as several other 1 star reviewers--they charged my roommate and I for 'damages' but neglected to send us the bill. They had our emails and phone numbers and could have easily contacted us about the charge. Almost a year after we move out we get a call from a debt collector. At that point we could not contest the charge without messing with our credit (the charges were crap, $150 to clean a stove?)

I highly recommend if you're looking to rent on the north side of Chicago you rent with Slater Realty. Pablo and Jerry are excellent landlords. I worked mostly with Pablo and I couldn't have ask for a more delightful person to interact with me. He always greeted me with a smile and was very genuine. They were always organized and attentive to tenants needs, very upfront and forward with any and all information. I always felt like I could come to them with anything.

Had a great experience renting with Slater Realty! My studio was remodeled and perfect for my needs, the building was very quiet, and the location was ideal. Building manager Gloria was always available, friendly, and helpful - she even helped me move my heavy luggage up to my apartment at 2 am on move-in day! Pablo in the leasing office was an angel. When I had to suddenly move for work, he helped me navigate my options finding someone to re-let the apartment, and it all worked out seamlessly thanks to his help and guidance. Highly recommended all around!

I've been in my place for 3 years now, and Slater Realty has easily been the best landlord I've dealt with. The staff is very friendly and responsive to phone calls or visits to their office. They keep everything in good working order, and work quickly to repair anything that breaks.
Pablo has been great about making sure we know all of the legal details if we have questions about our lease. Pro tip: if you're planning to make any changes, put it in writing.

I've lived in Slater properties for ~8 yrs now and I have basically no complaints.
Whenever I've had an issue with my unit, they've been responsive and helpful.
They check the smoke detectors monthly, and they spray for bugs monthly (and I basically never see bugs in the building).
Whenever our drain is clogged they unclog it, same day, for free. They've replaced our sink in the bathroom and repainted the tub upon request. They look into every and any issue you call them about.
They are always reachable and available. The onsite building manager in our building is responsive and kind. The building

I've lived in 4 different apartments now in Chicago and my experience with Slater Realty has been the best yet. Pablo is so kind and quick to respond! We had a random woman in our building the other day and he came over and helped remove her from the premises! We LOVE our apartment. It is so spacious yet cheap and whenever we have a problem we receive a resolution quickly! Thanks to the Slater team for a great year in Uptown :)

I don't understand how they have 4 stars. They're probably the worst management out there and I've lived all over the country. First off, the manager will tell you one thing but do another - quite frequently. I had an agreement with him regarding the last months rent and he agreed that it was my roommates responsibly to pay her share (although it doesn't work that way he'd mentioned and I understood the rules) Therefor, I wrote him a letter and asked if I could pay half of the amount and he said that's fine. I even called him after I had moved to LA and he reassured

What can I say.. where to start. When I first signed up for the apartment I was a bit nervous because the unit I applied for was occupied by a dirty guy but the leasing company that took me to see the apartment ensured me that they have placed several of their clients in Slater buildings and the feed back has been positive. So I took a chance.
I started out with a small studio and I began to outgrow the space so I upgraded to a one bedroom apartment, they made my transition very easy. I could not believe how response the company and staff are:

COCKROACHES!!!! COCKROACHES!!! COCKROACHES!!!! Slater realty and investments is the worst management company I have ever dealt with. Not only are they rude, but they do not take care of any problems you tell them about. I had seen two cockroaches in my apartment about three weeks ago and they said they'd spray and take care of the problem. Here I am again, with more cockroaches in my apartment. They are now telling me that I never reported cockroaches and that they will now follow protocol to exterminate them. I was absolutely told a few weeks ago that the problem was already taken care of

We had to move to a bigger place, but were very sad to leave our apartment and the management company. They were very respectful of our time-- never any pop-in visits or surprise prospective renters. They told us at least a day in advance and would even call to let us know if the prospective renters cancelled.
I have to say, you are always afraid you won't receive your entire deposit (or even your deposit back) after moving apartments. Not only did we receive our ENTIRE deposit back in 30 days-- we even received the interest on it. Considering we lived there for 7 years-- that is pretty

These guys are really nice and have always been really great about getting things fixed for me almost immediately after asking. The office is right below my building so it's really easy to pay rent, and they have been really cool from the start.
I had moved in halfway through a lease and they allow us to sign a brand new lease without having the pay the move in fee. They certainly could have charged it but they were decent about not charging again for a fee the others who were living here already paid. The place I live in is very nice and definitely affordable. I've been with them for 3 years now. I'm really happy with them! I wouldn't listen to any bad reviews, these guys are stellar. I've never had a problem with them and they're always on top of fixing things. My building managers are super sweet and helpful. They even watch my cat. As for the different locations, they have great buildings. I love lincoln square.

I moved into a one bedroom with my boyfriend and about 3 month in I we broke up and since neither of us could afford the place by ourselves we decided to do the only responsible thing and try to find a sub-letter for our place. We did all the leg work. We put of up a craigslist ad and set up showings and had many interested parties. However, the timing was terrible, my landlord there had major surgery and was pretty much out of commission for months. Her daughter started handling everything but she had just had a baby

I recently signed a lease with Slater Realty and have been very happy with their level of customer service and professionalism. Now, I will say that I'm coming straight out of the most disfunctional leassor/leassee relationship that I've ever experienced ( their Yelp review is pending on receipt of my security deposit!) so I may be biased when I find genuine humanity behind a rental company!
