I did not enjoy living here at all. My girlfriend lived at the ion for a year, and in the time I spent there, I saw many counts of contract breaching and truth stretching. Noise complaints at 4 pm on Friday's. Noise complaints in almost all hours of the day, even to the extent to where we had to take our shoes off when we entered the apartment, because if we didn't, we would get constant threats of eviction. Empty and sad threats. Threats with the basis in abuse of power. Renters rights are a real thing, but at the Ion, they seem to ignore every single right the tenant has. We don't pay excessive

I’m in the middle of my college decision, and i heard about ion lp from a waitress at lunch. my parents and i ended up taking a tour of the building led by zoe, who was absolutely amazing! she was super helpful and showed us every part of the building (laundry, model room, study space, etc). she answered all of our questions and had such a welcoming energy that made the entire experience so enjoyable and informative. i definitely recommend reaching out to the staff (especially zoe) for information about this place if youre interested!!

The best part of Ion LP is Reese at the front desk. She juggles a thousand balls down there all while being a full time student and still does a stellar job. As for Ion itself, it’s about the same price as a dorm for MUCH more space and some more freedom (though security trolling the halls at night in search of loud rooms is too RA-like IMO), so it’s an excellent option for DePaul students. If you’re not a student, there is no real reason to live here over cheaper normal apartments, but it’s intended for students so that’s likely not a big factor if you’re reading this. Again, Reese

Move here if you enjoy being manipulated, lied too and taken advantage of. This building fraudulently charged me rent for a whole year during the covid 19 pandemic while I was not even residing in Chicago. I’m from California and they forced me to remain in a lease during the beginning of the pandemic. They did not offer any relief or any way to exit a lease that was made without having prior knowledge of a WORLD WIDE PANDEMIC. Absolute thieves that take advantage of students. Parents be aware. Students be aware.
Update to the reply:
I was never offered a buyout and why would I defer my move

12 monthly payment for only 11.5 months of living.
Toilets constantly overflow...at no fault of your own! They will clear it and you need to clean the mess.
Garbage shoot is always clogged and the size of a small shoe box. Garbage bags will not fit down.
Washers and dryers are always broken and don't fully dry. They also don't lock so people throw your clothes out to do theirs.
They will charge you crazy fees for everything! If someone smokes in your unit they charge everyone in the unit.
Command strips take the paint off the wall very easily and they charge you.

As my daughter didn't live there from March 13th until her lease was over August 12th and I lost my job I asked management to help out a little bit with the last months rent (seeing as she hade to be out by noon August 12th - and move in was Sept 5, making it 24 days you are not allowed in during a yearly lease.)
They stated if they did that for one person they would have to do it for everyone. Well, everyone has had hard times and had a lot of loss, except ion apartments. Why can't they eat a little bit of a loss (less than 10%) when the rest of us have had to go online, not live there

Update: For longevity, let it be first known that the building has clearly changed its name. Secondly, the "efforts" made to contact me or right wrongs following the end of my lease were simply excuses for their money grabbing that equate to nothing more than impressive levels of gaslighting. My review stands.
I have never gone out of my way to leave a review, let alone one like this. Understand, however, this is not a review
Let's go over the credentials of my posting here first. I was a 5-year DePaul student who moved to the building in my Sophomore year, and signed for 3 consecutive

I'm normally not the type of person to post a review such as this, but my abysmal experience at 1237 West needs to be reported. Maybe others will avoid making the same mistake as me if they read about my experience.
I signed my lease at 1237 West in July of 2018. Upon signing, the marketing director who took me on a tour told me that he secured a 5th floor unit for me, which would allow more natural light. When I received my unit assignment, it was in fact on the 3rd floor. This should have been my first red flag.
Things with management only worsened from there. A few weeks before move-in

Since I moved in, I have enjoyed this living environment. The staff here are really helpful and will always say hello to you, especially Bryan! This building is in a safe area and is located near DePaul University.
Lobby Space: The lobby is very trendy. There is a free coffee machine with pretty decent coffee for late nights. There are two computers in the lobby with free printing that you have to provide your own paper for. There is a huge smart tv and a place to relax and play scrabble with friends. There is, also, a comfy space to study in the lobby.

While the location is great, that is it. It is $965 monthly per person or just under $4,000 for 4 people. If you send a package to your student, don't plan on your student actually receiving it. My son had a package sent to him in February, was notified, but they couldn't locate it. We have contacted them 11 times! I hope the unfriendly door staff enjoyed the gift cards.
Also, if you forget your key, they charge you $50. There have to be better options!

It's alright, not the worst, not the best, just okay. They take awhile to respond to maintenance requests and rolling out things in a timely manner. Rent has changed a bit since I first started living here, which was a shame. But still, living wise, perfectly fine if you're pretty low key like me and just like a decent place to rest your head at night. Pretty safe place to live too. Again, above average.
