Services
Dr. Pieper, "The Doc, " was born in Newington, Connecticut and was raised on a dairy farm. He graduated from Hartford High School in 1928 and the New York State Veterinary College at Cornell University in 1932. He returned to Connecticut to open his private practice in 1933, catering to animals both large and small.
With emergency services and critical care offered 24/7 in Middletown, and 7-day Urgent Care offered in Madison, Pieper Veterinary is always here when you need us. At Pieper, you'll find the advanced equipment and specialty expertise needed to help provide your pet with the highest quality of care. I am so grateful to Dr. Urbonas, Dr. Turner, Pieper veterinary ER staff and reception staff for saving my dog's life last weekend.
Our skilled specialists have access to advanced diagnostic equipment and state-of-the-art facilities, helping them to provide your pet with the best possible care. Pieper's specialized equipment allows for sophisticated imaging, faster diagnoses, non-invasive surgery options, and a safer environment for our most critical patients.
Under ordinary circumstances, your pet may be a very calm, docile individual. However, when experiencing pain or fear, even the most placid animal may bite or scratch unexpectedly. It is always best to use caution when handling and transporting an injured pet, even if you doubt they would ever hurt you.
Some emergency situations are obvious. However in some cases you may be uncertain whether your pet's symptoms are serious enough to warrant immediate attention, or if they may be able to wait until your family veterinarian's regular business hours. Please feel free to contact us if you have questions or need guidance about your pet's specific condition.

My Charlie had an attack of something my local vet and the ER in Deerfield couldn't diagnose. I took him to Pieper Veterinary. They took him right in, he was seen by Dr. Hammond and he began diagnosis and treatment right away. It took a long time but Charlie eventually returned home and has continued to improve. I am grateful for Dr. Hammond and his staff for there excellence.

5 stars. My dog was very very sick and her regular vet could not diagnose what was going on urgently enough. I took my Sheltie in and Dr. Stillman was able to diagnose her with lymphoma within a few hours. While the diagnosis was not favorable, I could not be happier with the care my dog was given. Dr. DeRegis in oncology took her time explaining… my dog’s diagnoses, prognosis, and treatment options. She was very knowledgeable and kind throughout the whole process. Thanks to Dr. DeRegis and the Pieper vet team I have my dog for a few more days/weeks.

This is ridiculous I have been on hold for 2 hours. I recommend Piper veterinarian for anyone that does not have a pet emergency. I called in Saturday night and they told me they could not see my puppy and sent… me to North Haven which was also unpleasant. I felt that no one cared for the distress my baby was in. They checked him at North Haven and said he has a fever and I can bring him to Shelton, which was hilarious to me due to the fact I live in Meriden and already traveled out of my way. I’m highly disappointed with my experience because it is now Sunday and my dog is not doing

I appreciate Dr. McDaniel and all the staff I encountered so much. I took my dog here last night on emergency and I have nothing but good things to say about how they treated my dog and I. As an employee of another animal hospital, I understand how busy you are and just want you to know you are appreciated so much!!!

Thank you, Dr Hammond & the staff at Pieper Memorial for taking such great care of our 12yr. old Beagle Shiloh. We truly believe that if it wasn’t for Dr. Hammond & staff Shiloh would not be with us today. We… brought Shiloh in as an emergency back in April of this year & honestly thought we would not be bringing him home. So thank you very much for giving us more time with our happy little Shiloh beagle he is doing so great.
