Dobra Zemlja Winery promises 'Big Amador Reds, No Lightweights' and was founded in 1995 by owners Milan and Victoria Matulich. Our tasting room opened to the public in August of 1997 in Amador County's first wine cave, which is located underneath a historic barn.
Meaning 'good earth' in Croatian, Dobra Zemlja (Doh-bra Zem-ya) focuses on producing hearty, unfiltered wines out of the grapes that Amador County is famous for: Viognier, Grenache, Sangiovese, Barbera, Syrah and Zinfandel.Warm days and cool nights, rich soil replete with decomposed granite deposits, and rolling hillsides characterize the terroir of the Shenandoah Valley located in the heart of Amador County.

When asked what was needed to make a great wine, Baron Philippe Rothschild said, "The grape, the climate, the Earth, the winemaker and God." Here we grow the noble grapes and the soil and climate make Amador an extraordinary viticulture region. At Dobra Zemlja, the winemaker respects and minimally intrudes on Nature's handiwork - and we do not make excuses for God.

Dobra Zemya offers a tasting room experience that will bring you back for more, or at least shame the others that you've been too. It helps that the community there is super knowledgeable and helpful with explaining the nuances with their wines without overwhelming those that have very little experience. I'm a fanboy for their current Barbera offering, man it's unique.

We were coming down from Silver Lake (getting the Cabin wet because of the fires), and decided to go on completely new roads on the Harley. It's 4:30pm on Monday, two thirsty bikers are looking for a near by Fiddletoen CA, winery. I am from Bulgaria and I saw a familiar name - Dobra Zemlja, which means "good earth", so we decided so give it a try. We absolutely loved their wine, highly recommend it!

Dobra Zemya has always been my favorite winery in the Sierra Foothills! If you like big reds, this is the place! Milan is always self depreciating by say saying it is "peasant wine" but actually it is brilliant wine! Victoria, his wife, is an amazing artist, and designs all the labels. If you like substantial reds, this is your winery!

My favorite winery of ALL time! First best reds in all the land. The vitner works with the natural yeast of the region making for a truly unique and delicious experience. The Zins are always to die for! Second the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and sweet. Third it is gorgeous!!! Grab a bottle of wine from the cellar cave and head out to the gardens and koi pond for the very best relaxing day! 🍷

This is one of my favorite wineries in Amador County. This one and Karmere. They're like night and day -- literally, Karmere is the more traditional winery and Dobra is this cool, inside a cave, dark and cult-ish feel winery. It's amazing. $5 tasting fee and their wines are divine! My absolute favorite is their Barbera!! A must visit if you're in Amador County.

Walked in first thing asked to use the restroom. The lady said it was the building to the right and I asked for clarification if she meant out the door and to the right (vs to the right of standing outside). When I pointed to the right she said "well that is the right" completely rudely. Poor customer service so we didn't even go back in to try the wine. So rude

We try to experience a new winery most times we hit up Amador County for wine club pickups. Today, we went to Dobra. What a great experience today was. The wines, the staff, the grounds were all terrific. Great enough to have us end another wine club and join this one, the next time we're in the hood. The ports, are amazing. The wines are great. The staff was both informative and very hospitable. Not something you see everywhere in Amador anymore. Great find.

Had a bottle of wine that just didn't inspire my buds. Since I live local, I returned today and was greated with concern that my experience with their wine was not the best. Several tastes of wines were provided to ensure I was satisfied with what was offered as an exchange. Very nice and concerned staff. Definitely recommend you visit!

We abandoned our Shenendoah Valley wine tasting tour after our visit here. We did not notice the $5 apiece tasting fee until after our first sip. I think that's not fair. The fee was not posted anywhere, it was down the description page. The wine itself is, at best, mediocre. The Voigner was so old it had already turned, unless that's the way they make it. My tasting mates quit after the first sample.

This was the last winery we visited out of 6. We almost skipped it, but I'm so glad we didn't. It was my favorite of the day. I can't remember her name, but the lady taking care of us was SO friendly and informative. I loved the cozy atmosphere of the tasting room. I bought a bottle of the Mali Ruz and the Z712.
The Mali Ruz is amazing and so different from any other Rose I have tried. It's not sweet and has a beautiful color.
The Z712 is a delicious Zin that I could drink every day. I think it's sold out for the year, but once it comes back, get it while you can!

It has been a few years since I visited Dobra and I"m so glad I made it back this past weekend. Amy and Kimberly from the staff were awesome hosts! I always enjoy your grounds and picnic area to hang out and relax to just take some of the nature that I miss sometimes.
Your wines are great and it looks like I will be visiting more often as friends became members which call for more visits up the road from Sacramento.
Good wines!

The best! We love Kate!
Yesterday a friend celebrated her 50th birthday in part with a limousine that took 7 of us to the Amador wine country. It was my first time in a stretch limo and in that area. This was the third of three wineries we stopped at. They say, save the best for last, and the limo company did!
This is the kind of place we remember from going to the Healdsburg area when we still lived in the Bay Area. Staff was super friendly. The atmosphere fantastic. The tasting room is in a cave. Their Milan Ruz is a blend that you can get in a jug. But it's not "jug wine". It
