Services
Our authentic NY style bagels are boiled, loaded with seeds, and baked to perfection. As soon as they cool, we slice and flash-freeze them for optimal storage. Say goodbye to stale bagels forever! Fresh bagels dry out and harden within a matter of hours. By flash-freezing, bagels keep for ~4-6 months.
Orders can be picked up on Thursdays and Fridays, 10 AM - 2 PM at Grand Bakery, co-located inside the Food Mill in Oakland's Laurel neighborhood. Please note: You will find your order on the Grand Bakery pickup table inside the Food Mill. Just picked up a box of Hamantaschen and, my oh my, they were good! YUM! Great filling and a delectable soft cookie dough. They are ever so fresh and tasty, and good sized too.
A couple had the dough overlapped so far you couldn't see the filling exposed, like typically done, yet the surprise was quite nice.
I would definitely get more!

So disappointed with the products at this bakery. The rye bread is not rye by my standard. Should be bleached dough with lots of seeds and a crunchy crust. Black n' white cookies are disappointing and undersized for the price. Challah is bland.
Unfortunately for Grand Bakery, I grew up in the Jewish neighborhood of LA and have come to know what great Jewish baking should be. Regrettably, Grand Bakery doesn't measure up, but, no other bakery in the Bay Area does either. Sad.

I love Grand Bakery at the food mill. The best in challah in the area, and I'm addicted to the macaroons, careful, habit forming, they deliver now and it's awesome. Always fresh and delivered on time, definitely recommend, and the left over challah makes great French toast. So happy Grand is still around after all these years, I met the owner the other day, Sam, he was so nice he gave me a discount card. Thanks Sam,

Ordered the JFI Chanukah Box. Came in the morning on the day promised, and the baked goods were all amazing! Especially impressed with the macaroons, almond logs, Russian tea cookies, and hamentashen. These types of cookies (imho) can be overly dense if you try to make at home and aren't the best home baker, or can just taste not-so-great/chemical-y if you buy from a supermarket. Me: "oh, these can actually be delicious."
The sufganiyot were also really tasty (as expected) and my favorite of all the things in the box.

I saw EatThisSF's feature/post on Grand Bakery and ordered a Lox Box last Sunday for delivery today 5/24. The order confirmation states that they would reach out no later than yesterday at 8:30pm and I have yet to hear from the bakery. I jumped on an opportunity to support a local Bay Area small business and unfortunately was disappointed in the customer service and communication.

Ordered 4 dozen Sufiganot for our temple's Chanukah party. They were a hit! So fresh and wonderful. The owner was fabulous to work with. He made arrangements for me to pick them up Sat night after Shabbat ended so I could have them as fresh as possible for our Sunday morning party. I will be back to this place for all our holidays. Wish they had a store front still but the owner make it work by being very accommodating.

I was pretty much raised on Challah growing up and Bagels, and its rare to fine one that I don't like, but to LOVE, is another story as one can doctor up any Bagel with enough cream cheese, tomato and fresh red onion. It was Friday night, this past Friday in fact, where I saw a bags of Challah and Bagels for an event I was attending. (House was incredible as Janis Joplin and the Grateful Dead would frequent in the good ol days with pictures of them throughout the house)
Back to Grand Bakery's Challah and Bagels. I took One deep smell of three bagels in a bag which was in the kitchen

So I've had the Challah bread a few times and it's very good I've made some savory bread pudding with it that my mom loves when I go make it for her
The chocolate covered Macaroons were are a pleasant surprise (macaroons are okay to me)
But these were DELICIOUS!! So I dropped in for the Bagel pop up on Sunday to grab some bagels which were good! So I had two!
I also grabbed more of the macaroons since I was there and shared them with my neighbors who also liked them!

I've been a big fan of their challahs for months now. Their desserts are awesome too - especially the almond logs. We recently ordered a couple dozen bagels for a party. Sam was quick to email and the bagels were hot out of the oven. They have a ton of seeds, the perfect soft interior and crisp exterior. I've waited long and hard for a good Bay Area bagel and these are the real deal!
