The Block Apartments puts you at the heart of central downtown and the doorstep of the best that Indianapolis has to offer. The Block represents urban living at its finest. Originally constructed in 1911, this 9-story building was once the site of the famed William H. Block Company department store.

Kanika joined The Landmark Companies in 2019 with over 7 years in property management and her favorite thing about The Block is our incredible location and stunning historic architecture. A native Hoosier, she loves sports as all of her 3 children (and arguably her miniature pincher) are athlete's with two playing a college sports.
The Block is a great place to live. It's a unique building with a lot of history in a very convenient, central downtown location. The Block is walkable to most everything, including the canal, restaurants, green spaces, sporting venues, etc. Plus there's an indoor walkway that connects you to the mall, restaurants and hotels.

Food and drinks took forever to come. Had to send 3 drinks back, tasted like sweet n sour mix. Waitress came to the table and added simple syrup to no avail. She even told us she stuck a straw in them to taste after she took them back and they were horrible.
We ordered a round of shots...clear shots came in plastic cups, some with ice some without. All had different amounts of liquor. Brown shots came out in real shot glasses. Food came out sporadically, 4 of the exact same meals came out with different veggies. The cook/chef came out to argue about about wing sauces....I won't go on, you get

Okay so I was super excited to not only try a mew restaurant but a new black owned restaurant. I have a few friends that have gone for lunch and had been interested.
First sense that was activated was hearing. Music was playing for the outside seating. Instant star for me as I always enjoy a vibe. It took a while to be greeted however someone came and we sat outside. It was a beautiful day/night for outside seating. I indulged in the devour menu while my friend ordered their onion rings, which were so crispy and the sauce had a kick. She also ordered a house salad. While the salad was good it

The wait for seating wasn't long, as it was a bit busy. It appeared they were short handed of their staff, as the couple of people taking orders, making drinks, serving customers appear to be confusing. My order for cocktail drinks were incorrect, the food tasted like it was rushed, not really exciting! My first experience here may have been just a bad Covid-19 night. I'll try again at some time later.

I viewed several apartment buildings before I decided to move to The Block. With fondness, I must say goodbye to my home apartment on the 4th floor in the gorgeous Block building. I will miss the high ceilings and historic charms. I will miss the morning sunlight through the expansive windows. I will miss the rhythm of Illinois Street and restaurants below. I will miss my respectful and kind neighbors. I will miss the wonderful and responsive staff! Thank you everyone at The Block. I will return to The Block again should I need an apartment in downtown Indianapolis.

The location and views are the only positive thing about this apartment complex. Only 1 elevator was in service for about half of my 14 month lease for 9 floors of people. They told another resident to park in my reserved spot, and then put a boot on my car when I parked in the adjacent open spot. Had multiple maintenance requests for a leaking pipe in the ceiling be "resolved" without anyone ever visiting, and the only time maintenance visited was when they walked into my apartment unannounced at 7 AM, said sorry wrong room and walked out. The absolute worst is when I followed their move-out procedures

I’m giving The Block a five star rating.
This will be my third lease and this is why.
First the manager Kanika and Elllie get right back with you when you have any questions.
They always smile and say hello when you pass the office.
Second the apartments are amazing great views of downtown Indianapolis.
Third it’s nice to live around professionals in the heart and soul of downtown Indianapolis.
Fourth once you put a request in for maintenance they are on the way.
You will love The block

Long story short...you want to live here! Location is perfect. I only use my car to drive to and from work and everything else is walkable! Being connected to the skywalk in the winter is a life saver.
In addition, the management team is exceptional!!! They are always available when you need and maintenace or repairs are done in a timely fashion. There is always a smile when you see them and they really do go the extra mile. Special thanks to Kanika and Elie for your relentless patience and Martinez and Raul for making sure we are in good hands!

I lived at The Block for a year, and then very happily turned in my keys. It gets five stars for location, but the general experience isn't worth the rent. The Block is an old department store that has been converted to apartments. The building has seen better days. The public areas look pretty nice, but the stairwells and back areas are filthy and are not well maintained. The elevators are slow and on several occasions were both out of service at the same time (Have fun with your 8th floor walk-up). The garage door frequently had to be forced open in the morning, and then would be stuck open

I have lived here for two years and adore the location. For the location and price, it can’t be beat. However, there are several issues that need to be addressed with this building and with the management company.
TL:DR- this place will nickel and dime you, management is rude and snarky, and there are way better places to live.
The first and biggest issue is that the parking garages for the residents are trash, and break quite often. I have been late to work 5 times now for no other reason than the garage door is stuck partially open and will not work correctly. Despite numerous conversations

This place is greatly conveniently located. Close to everything you can possible imagine in the city of Indianapolis. The Block location is almost Hollywood like in my head. You got the red brick road when you step outside and you look to the right, you see the tall monument on the circle. You look to the left you see the historic state capital. I personally think that's really cool. The design of each apartment is unique and fun, but if you get hardwood floors, the unit will have a lot more echo. I do wish the amenities within the building were little better if not more added. The gym has old

I lived here temporarily while I was waiting on my house to be rebuilt. New management had just started and I've found them incredibly easily to work with. Whenever maintenance requests have arose, they work very quickly to fix the issue. The Block is amazingly located, the staff is great, and the apartment views are awesome!

I’m not sure if the bad reviews are due to old management or not because I don’t see any names I recognize but I’m moving to The Block this week and after calling at least a dozen apartment complexes I finally called them and “Ellie” has by far been the sweetest, most helpful and most attentive person I’ve encountered on my search. She has made the whole process so easy and stress free and spent a considerable amount of time finding me the perfect apartment even going so far as to show me ones more than once because they’re all different in their own unique ways. The building is also

I've lived in the Block for 10 years so I've seen my fair share of leasing agents. The location is convenient and is the main selling point for the property. The building is old, which of course will lead to issues. I've not experienced anything from the staff that is less than responsive when those issues arise. Maintenance is readily available via cell. They're so accommodating that they have, at my request and approval, let my visitors in my place when I'm not in the building.
I appreciate that they offer early lease signing concessions. I am confident that I will

I have to start with the obvious -- The Block is located in a wonderful location. My apartment is really beautiful, I can walk anywhere downtown, and it's certainly got a unique charm. It's not like the other standard "one-size-fits-all" apartments that pepper downtown Indy. That's what earns The Block two stars.
There are clearly management issues. In the eight months I've lived here, there have been three different property managers. That's fine -- I totally get that people change jobs, things don't work out, etc. However, it's the duty of the apartment

First, I must say that the location of the Block is excellent and the vibe of the old-department-store-turned-apartments is really cool. After looking at six different apartment buildings and not being overly impressed with any, I nearly instantly fell in love with the Block when I first visited it.
Unfortunately, it did not take long for this love to wear off. In February, we started to experience a few leaks in our apartment. Initially, the leaks were annoying, but manageable. While I did not keep official count, I suspect we had maintenance in our apartment a minimum of 15 times. At

It's been 5 months since my last update. The place did get fresh paint on some floors, and some decorative updates downstairs. I know it takes a while to fix years of neglect, but there is still something missing. While I believe there may be a cleaning crew (you'd think I would see them), I'm not very sure. The building is cleaner than it was, but not as clean as it should be.
I must say, management is very quick respond to issues. There has been quite a bit of turnaround (the new manager either quit or was fired a few weeks ago) but the new person in charge seems to care

I moved to The Block after spending 6 months at a "state of the art", "luxury" apartment community. I'm thrilled that we moved to The Block because it fits our needs perfectly. Our view of downtown is incredible and the location is prime.
The Block is safe, convenient, and stylish. I love that our building was an iconic department store and I really enjoy living near tons of great shopping and restaurants.

I lived here for a year. The neighbors were loud and the landlord sent them letters, but they guard would not help much. The ceiling in the upstairs lobby caved in during a storm and it took them three weeks before they even began doing anything. The main supervisor is really rude too and constantly acts like one is a bother when even just simply saying hello.

My lease is almost up at my apartment, so I thought it would be a good time to start looking around to see if I wanted to move before I just signed a new one for another year where I am now. I know someone who lives here, so I decided to give them a call and get some information and schedule an appointment to look around.
I stopped in for my 11:30 am appointment on a Saturday morning and walked around the lobby area while someone signed their lease and got their keys. Afterwards, I was walked around to a few different apartments and got the tour of the building.

As yelp says, "As good as it gets!" I've rented all over the midwest as my career has taken me many places, and I can say without reservation that The Block is a fantastic place to live. We've been here over a year, and in that time, we haven't had a problem with our unit. The building manager, front desk manager, and maintenance staff are all incredibly friendly, helpful, and professional. When our out of town guests come to visit, the first thing they notice is the unique architecture. The old Block department store was converted into apartment units and every unit is

Some very clever retrofitting of space. A former beloved and historic department store turned apartments? So cool. And to make sure dwellers can have bedrooms and light--high up windows built into the tall walls. Clever.
The fitness room is amazing--lots of original elements. Overall, a really cool, unique property with a location that couldn't get much better.
I'm a fan.
