Newtowne's deeply engaged faculty works closely with families to nurture and stimulate young children as they make the transition from the world of home to the world of school. Newtowne benefits from a richly talented and experienced faculty. The Newtowne School's close knit faculty embraces professionalism that is empowered by communication, collaboration.

At Newtowne, we offer programs for children ages 22 months to 5 years. Our core program is available for 3 or 5 days per week and we also offer options for extended day, remote learning, and summer. We invite you to take the following virtual tour to learn more about the learning environments that Newtowne School offers.
Services
Our mission is to instill in children the confidence to be curious lifelong learners who can contribute meaningfully in creating a kinder, more sustainable, and more equitable world. We are committed to providing an enriching educational environment built on relationships and playful exploration.

We believe in advancing social justice and that by focusing on children's strengths we promote their inherent capacities to construct knowledge and develop positive social identities.Drawing inspiration from the Reggio Emilia schools in Italy, we use emergent and inquiry-based approaches to curriculum design, where topics emerge from the interests and questions children bring with them into the classroom.
In the Reggio Emilia philosophy, teachers, parents, children, and the environment are in regular dialogue with one another. At Newtowne, parents have opportunities to partner with the teachers to support the child and enhance the school environments, as a means of honoring and further developing the learning interests and needs of the child.
Just as the people of Reggio Emilia set about reconstructing their schools after World War II with a strong desire for change and a world free from oppression, injustice, and inequality, we at Newtowne are committed to advancing social justice in our current world.

We welcome families and faculty of different races, religions, nationalities, genders, family arrangements, sexual orientations, ages, and income levels, and we are inclusive of children with special rights who have diverse learning needs.Newtowne approaches diversity, equity, and inclusion work using a strengths-based approach, in which difference is viewed as something that enriches our community and society.
At Newtowne, the idea of lifelong learning is deeply valued. Our teachers are licenced by the Department of Early Education and Care, have extensive training in early childhood education, and many hold graduate degrees in related fields. Our faculty is involved in attending and presenting at workshops and conferences, researching and publishing, and providing mentorship to fellow educators both in and outside of Newtowne.
According to the Reggio Emilia philosophy, the environment is the "third teacher"; at Newtowne, we take great pride in our learning environments. Newtowne School is located in the city of Cambridge, Massachusetts and embedded in the heart of Harvard Square, which offers a wealth of opportunities for exploration and engagement with the larger community.

I've sent both my children to Newtowne School and couldn't be happier. We even commute in from Belmont just so that they could grow up in this nurturing and creative environment!

The staff are brilliant and committed. And the family cooperative model means that we are feel part of a community that believes in raising a generation of children who understand the values of creativity, cooperation, and justice.

Newtowne School is one of the purest and most vital examples of the Reggio-Emilia style of education -- a style built in the ashes of WWII to heal a broken world. And we're

Our daughter has been at Newtowne for two years now and I cannot sing it's praises highly enough. The teachers are warm and loving, and have helped my child grow socially and emotionally. The environment inspires creativity and allows the kids to explore and learn about how things work. This year her classroom has a makerspace and she has really developed an interest in building and creating things. As a first time parent, I've also found the teachers a great resource when I had questions about my child. We cannot wait until our younger child is old enough to attend Newtowne as well!

We LOVE Newtowne. It is a lovely, warm, and inviting space for children to learn. Our son has been there for 2 years, and we can't wait for our daughter to be old enough to go as well in a couple years. The school, and its teachers, take great pride and care in their teaching. Everytime we drop our son off at school, there are various interesting learning stations set up around the classroom, inviting him and his classmates to explore and learn how things works. There is an emphasis on kindness, which is much needed in today's world, and community. We can't recommend it more highly.

We have been going to Newtowne for 3 years (2 years with my daughter, and now my son's first year). It is an amazing, magical place. The care and attention they show the children is so special - there is real respect for childhood, and they treat the children as independent, real people. The teachers are kind, loving, creative, and so thoughtful about every aspect of the classroom experience. It is a co-op, so there is a fair amount of parent involvement, but you really know what is happening in the classroom, as well as the other children and families. It is a great community, and a really beautiful

We specifically sought out a Reggio inspired program and are now in our 4th year at Newtowne. Our daughter looks forward to school everyday and adores her teachers and classmates. The teachers support children in developing an intrinsic love of learning. Children are challenged to explore, investigate and reflect on a daily basis. As a result, Newtowne children become strong and confident learners who are ready to navigate both academic and social-emotional tasks. The CO-OP model embraces each family and we enjoy being part of the community. We are forever grateful such a warm and nurturing first

Newtowne has been a phenomenal first school experience for both of our kids. The teachers are warm, highly experienced, nurturing, and creative educators and the community of families is terrific. The play-based, Reggio-inspired curriculum is truly outstanding and everyday the classrooms have amazing new materials set out for the kids. I don't think anyone does Reggio better than Newtowne! We love this place so much and only wish our kids could stay for more years!!!

We love Newtowne! This year will be our 3rd year here, likely of 6 total years between our 2 kids. The staff are fantastic, the facilities just got an overhaul, and the families and children at Newtowne are great.

Newtowne nurtures and challenges our child in so many ways - there is a dedicated "Atelier" for children to create, teachers encourage the children to drive their learning through play and exploration, and most important - the kids just have a ton of fun in a safe place.

As a co-op, we get to participate in the direction of the school, get to help in the classrooms and enjoy
