In 1956, after thirty years of events held all over the state, the youth camping program of the Maine Conference found a home at Pilgrim Lodge in West Gardiner. For $35,000 the Congregational Christian Conference of Maine (now called The Maine Conference of the United Church of Christ) acquired 85 acres of the former Balbrook Lodge.

A total of $95,000 was raised by churches, youth, fellowship groups and individuals from throughout the Maine Conference for the purchase and renovation of the camp. Two years later we purchased two islands just off the shore on Lake Cobbosseecontee for $600. With the purchase of Pilgrim Lodge we were able to expand our youth ministry to host full summers of programs for youth, adults, and the entire family.
Services
Minors attending camp at Pilgrim Lodge without a legal guardian need forms 1 and 2. Form 3 is also needed if they carry an epi-pen, inhaler, or other emergency medication. Forms 2 and 3 need a doctor's signature. Form 4 is for any adult attending an event at Pilgrim Lodge. It needs to be signed by your doctor.
Pilgrim Lodge, owned and operated by the Maine Conference of the United Church of Christ, is a seasonal retreat center and summer camp located on Lake Cobbosseecontee in West Gardiner, Maine. During the summer months Pilgrim Lodge is the central location for the youth ministry program of the Maine Conference.
It is the intent of this policy that neither campers nor counselors are distracted from the Pilgrim Lodge community while participating in a Pilgrim Lodge event. Counselors are requested to leave cell phones and other electronic devices turned off during all camp events. Cellular phones may, however, be used when the counselor has personal time away from the camp activities and in the evening after the campers are in bed.
Pilgrim Lodge is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Cobbosseecontee in West Gardiner, Maine, on an unnumbered route, (the Neck Road) about 12 miles southwest of Augusta. After 2.5 miles, (by Mulligan's Citgo gas station), at the stoplight where route 17 turns right (don't turn right) and 202 goes straight (don't go straight) turn LEFT onto Pond Road / Proceed South for about 6.5 miles.
Karen is the friendly voice you often hear when you call the Pilgrim Lodge office. Having been with Pilgrim Lodge for over a decade, Karen is well-informed with the workings of Pilgrim Lodge and is always here to lend a helping hand. John lovingly cares for Pilgrim Lodge and has experience with a wide variety of trades involving many skills that make him a great addition to our facility.
