Cary Psychiatry Center was founded and created by Allison Mikel, M.D. in 2016 as a means of providing the highest quality affordable psychiatric care to children, adolescents, and adult residents of Cary and surrounding areas including Raleigh, Morrisville, Apex, and Durham.

Allison Mikel M.D., Psychiatrist, is the founder and medical director of Cary Psychiatry Center. She was born in Washington D.C. and raised in Columbia, Maryland. She received her dual undergraduate degrees in Behavioral Neuroscience and Psychology from Rutgers University where she was in the Honors program and graduated Magna Cum Laude.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Cary Psychiatry is committed to the health and safety of our patients and staff. Rest assured, we are here to help during this time and are still available to our patients. We have decided to temporarily switch over all face to face patient appointment visits to exclusively Tele-Psychiatry visits until further notice.

We may be a bit biased, but we feel that taking steps to improve your mental health is one of the most important ways to dramatically improve your quality of life, improve your interpersonal relationships, and optimize your physical health.
Cary Psychiatry Center utilizes an electronic medical record system called Valant designed to improve efficiency of communication with providers and insurance companies which minimizes the patient's billing burden. We are happy to bill your insurance for you as a courtesy but please note that you are responsible for knowing your benefits with your insurance carrier prior to each visit.

The receptionist, Heather, is an absolute sweetheart. She was very kind on the two phone calls I had with her. She made me feel super welcome and safe at this medical practice. I had a Telehealth meeting with Maggie Evers and she was super observant and kind. She listened to everything I said and took my experiences and concerns seriously. I will not hesitate to come back or to recommend Cary Psychiatry to my friends!

I have been a patient of Katie Myers for almost 15 years. I followed her from her previous practice. She has been my cheerleader, my counselor, my lifesaver, and my friend when I needed that.
She is one of the most professional people I have met in my 52 years. She is interested in my life with my family and never discusses
her personal life unless I ask about it. She listens to what I am saying and rarely takes notes during an appointment (but she always remembers what I said the next time). She answers phone calls promptly (it’s always urgent if I call). She sends prescriptions immediately

I have had a great experience with Maggie Evers. She is thoughtful, experienced and truly wonderful to work with as a psychiatric provider.
My frustration with being a patient is the lack of insurance knowledge on the front office staff and the unresponsiveness to emails. Several times I have been told that my insurance covers the appointment and then called later for bills upward of $500. When requesting refills and appointments, it is imperative to respond to the doctor’s patients because if the email goes unanswered, our prescriptions are delayed. I have been seeing Dr. Katherine Myers now for almost a year. My Bipolar 2 is particularly hard to get under control, and she has worked very hard to find the right combination of medication to help my state. She is kind, caring, and extremely professional. I would highly recommend her to anyone that wants a doctor to spend time with them and their medications. It takes time and she does not take an one size fits all approach to your well being. My family has been going to this office for 4 years. Both Dr. Mikel and Katherine Myers, PA have been kind and interested in hearing from us about our needs. They don't just tell you what they're going to do and write a script, they enlist patients to make guided choices. The new office is very nice, and the staff is polite and helpful.

I have been a patient of Dr. Mikel for over 3 years now. She has seen me through two pregnancies, time prior to, and post. What I love about Dr. Mikel is that she is very personable. She treats you like a human being, rather than a test subject. She is very compassionate.

I was a little nervous about changing psychiatrists in the beginning. I had been with my previous doctor for almost 20 years. After his rates went to $450 and I realized I was being over medicated I decided it was time to take control of my own healthcare.
I next went to Duke Neuropsychology for cognitive brain testing to determine the damage from medications. They were the ones who recommended Dr.Mikels to me and at $175 a visit I felt like that was a good price. It did take me a couple visits to feel fully comfortable but Dr.Mikels

The best! Its so hard to find ANY Dr these days where both the staff and provider are so caring! The ladies at the "front desk" always greet you with a smile, and any time i needed anything outside of my visits they were great at communicating with me. Maggie, listens and takes her time with me at each visit. Never makes me feel rushed, and always makes me feel very comfortable. Just so happy to have found them!

Without a doubt, Dr. Mikel is the most professional, kind, attentive, genuine, and thoughtful doctor I have ever had, in all forms of medical practice. Not only is she extremely intelligent and knowledgeable of her field, she has the personality to make a real human connection.
