We are a yoga school rooted in the study and practice of Ashtanga Yoga - and we are gay owned & operated - and we offer Nashville's only Mysore program and Jivamukti Yoga classes. Mysore offers individual guidance from the teacher while practicing in a group setting - it's the traditional way of practicing Ashtanga and is the best way to learn it.
NO experience necessary - just come on in and we'll teach you. Jivamukti is a vinyasa practice grounded in Ashtanga with an emphasis on shastra (ancient yoga teachings), bhakti (devotion), ahimsa (kindness), nada (music), and dhyana (meditation). Classes are offered virtually and in our shala.

Mysore is individual instruction of the Ashtanga Yoga system in a group setting. During the Mysore class you will practice alongside fellow yogis while being provided with individual instruction and guidance from the teacher. It is different than the way yoga classes are typically taught. We all work within the same system - Ashtanga Yoga - but, you will receive teaching specific to your body and mind.
Jivamukti is a Hatha Vinyasa based yoga practice that was founded in 1986 by David Life and Sharon Gannon in New York City. It holds Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga as one of its foundational elements. Three renowned yogis served as the physical, philosophical and spiritual inspiration and foundation for the method.
Each day we begin our practice with repetition of surya namaskara a and b (sun salutations) as a reminder of our place in the cosmos and our aim as yogis to connect to the earth and all its many beings. Ashtanga is a form of "hatha" yoga which means sun and moon denoting a pair of opposites that provide us with direction and purpose where from we move and breathe.
Penuel Retreat Center is a contemplative, interfaith retreat center set on 135 acres of forest. It's quite private and we'll be the only ones there. There's a main house that has three bedrooms, a sleeping loft, one kitchen and one kitchenette, an open dining room and a main meeting room. It can sleep 16 people in twin beds.

Yoga Shala Nashville is a sanctuary where students of ashtanga yoga can dive deep in to their yoga practice and reap many personal growth benefits yoga offers. Cory is a knowledgable teacher, a guide, and I am so grateful for him. My practice is evolving well in this space and in the ashtanga community here! ๐๐โบ๏ธ๐

In a town like Nashville, where yoga studios are plentiful, the Yoga Shala stands apart. The main instructor Cory is an extremely skilled and compassionate teacher who helps each student connect to the practice and work through personal yoga goals. The space is also exceptional, partly because it's in the wing of a beautiful church in East Nashville, and partly because it's so well cared for. Unlike other studios that offer "vinyasa" style workout classes, the classes offered at the Shala are unique and connected to more traditional forms of yoga, like Ashtanga, Mysore and Jikmakti. Cory is a gem! His truly knowledgeable teaching comes from such an authentic, sweet and humble space. He knows when to offer guidance and when to let the student find it by guiding their inner voice. Wonderful blend of lightness and challenge. Perfect blend of the traditional aspects of yoga and the physical alignment necessary to stay safe.

Yoga Shala Nashville is a truly unique place. This space is for anyone, not just in terms of body type, skill level, years of experience, etc., but also for those who just want a good workout and those who are seeking spiritual development. The owner and lead teacher, Cory, is incredibly knowledgeable about both the physical and spiritual side of the practice. He is gentle and patient, and at the same time challenges his students to move deeper into the practice, whether physically or spiritually. He also does a great job of bringing in other experienced teachers to offer a variety of workshops

I've been searching for a studio that feels like home for the past couple of years. I found that home at the Shala. At first, the Mysore practice felt a little awkward since everyone is practicing at their own pace and there's no one "leading a class". Insert Cory - the owner. He is a phenomenal teacher and gave me the one on one attention that I was craving to help deepen my practice and ensure proper alignment. And he does it all with this big ole smile on his face. So glad to be part of this community!!!!

I love practicing at Yoga Shala Nashville would not hesitate for a second to recommend it to anyone asking where they should practice yoga in Nashville. Whether you are visiting from out of town, new to yoga, or a long-time practitioner, it's a very authentic and comforting place with an excellent teacher. Cory is both genuine and caring as a teacher and as a human. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience, he practices what he teaches, and he's encouraging and respectful no matter how much you know or don't know about yoga. And he's cultivated a wonderful community! I love it.

Cory is one of the best yoga teachers out there, and it is an absolute honor to practice with him! After years of searching, I finally found a teacher with a wealth of knowledge, experience, and wisdom. He focuses on building a strong foundation for your practice, both on and off the mat. In addition to his asana classes, I enjoy his yoga philosophy talks and meditation classes. And all of the additional teachers heโs brought on board are the best of the best!

Cory is an incredibly talented teacher. I have been practicing with him for many years now, and he has truly helped transform my practice both physically and spiritually. He is incredibly thoughtful and dedicated, tailoring his teaching to each of his students and integrating his studies on yogic philosophy into his offerings. I couldn't recommend him more highly!
