For the new year, I came here for my very first digital perm by hairstylist Yuya. Previously the only more boring things I did to my hair were cutting, combing and tying. Yuya was very skilled and quick with his agile fingers. He gave me a really nice and neat haircut and then proceeded to perm it. Whole experience was very comfortable and quite therapeutic… I love my new curly hair a lot and will do my best to care for it well (Photos are taken right after and after my first wash at home)👍🏻 Highly recommend!

Came here for a lash lift* and eyebrow lamination with Mami. It was my first time getting eyebrow lamination and she was gentle and friendly in advising me, and my eyelash perm was great too!

I'd been a loyal client at this place for over 10 years since Eri was there. Every time I went there I was really happy with my haircuts and perms (done 3-4 times). Since Eri left it doesn't feel as reliable.

The stylist seemed new, was a bit difficult to communicate with so luckily I had pics of my previous perms. Friendly service! I had my hair cut done by Yuya Ito (General Manager). It was my first time going there and he got the hair cut I requested spot on! He really understands hair cutting techniques and all the fundamentals, and he explained them to me in Japanese. He's still learning English but he's energetic and outgoing; as long as you convey the style and hair you like, he will deliver! This salon also accommodated me even though I called last minute!

There seemed to be miscommunication between the front desk and the stylist. The person i spoke with when I walked in knew i was there for a haircut and perm, but only at the end of the haircut did the stylist realize i was there for an additional service. I don't know if that would have changed how the stylist cut my hair, but didn't make me feel as though much attention was being paid to the outcome I had been hoping for, even though I'd even sent in reference photos as requested.

It's been three weeks since Yuya cut and colored my hair and it still looks amazing!!! I love my new hair style and color!! Yuya is professional and he has excellent skills. I experienced really bad scalp burn in the past with a different hair salon but not with Yuya at ORO New York. My scalp and hair is healthy & shining. I got a very short haircut from medium length from Yuya, and was very happy with the result. I’ve been wanting this style (shaved all around with some shaggy hair on top), but I’ve found that it’s hard to find a stylist who will do that willingly. Yuya got it right away and shaved my thick black Asian hair all around, and made the shaggy too so stylish and care free!
Few days later I had my daughter (with long hair) go to him and he did an amazing job on her long hair style as well. Very happy with Yuya and the beautiful and clean salon.

My first visit there, Yuya helped me with two tone hair colour with a brown outer layer and a pink second layer. He also gave me a beautiful hair cut with easy to maintain curtain bangs (AMAZING!). The second time was to make the colour consistently brown and Yuya recommended highlights so my hair would have more dimension and it turned out amazing ◡̈. My recent visit today was for a drastic cut again and as usual, Yuya delivered and gave me a beautiful, easy to maintain shoulder length bob that I could still tie if it got too warm + that amazing easy to maintain curtain bangs again.

Worst hair perming experience in my life: After 4-hour digital perm, my hair is still straight. The only difference is that they burned my hair, and now it's totally damaged and dry like grass. My scalp is also slightly scalded and burning. Their attitude was good, but they couldn't figure out the reasons or fix the problem. They follow proper COVID precautions like social distancing, mask wearing, sanitizing, temperature check, etc. The staff is really friendly and they make you feel comfortable while you're there. So I would love to give 5 stars since I do love the hair color even though it is not what I had asked for. Actually it is quite far from it. However he colored it with least damage to my hair and near what I had asked for. The main reason I came to the salon was to get rid of my white hair hoping for white hair highlight. Well it definitely did not succeed for sure as the photos will show. So foe that reason, one star deducted. I wanted to get a quick haircut before I left NY and randomly chose ORO because they were really close to my hotel. Luckily, they were able to accommodate me and I was really grateful because I had to catch a flight right after. The space is huge and the front desk lady was very kind. After dinner in East Village, thought about getting hair cut. Did not think could do it as no reservation was made prior. The general manager himself was so nice and was able to help us on a last min basis right before closing. Although his English was not perfect, it was not hard to communicate to him as to what style we are looking for. Very very happy about this place and interior looks so clean and bright. I've had my hair cut here several times and I've been very happy every time. The staff is super friendly and the salon is very nice as well. I have my hair cut by the same person every time and she's amazing. I love the look of the place and I look forward to going here every time. I will be honest and say that initially, I was turned off by their initial communication when I reached out to ask about whether/when they'd be reopening during NYC Phase 2. I called and left a voicemail; after no response for a few days, I emailed them since I figured that business phone numbers are less reliable during closures. They emailed me back, but all they told me was, "you can only book now via email and text." They didn't ask me what dates I wanted, their next availabilities, etc.

Kelly is very experienced in hair color and braids. She's been doing my hair for almost a year. Normally when bleaching hair, you can feel the chemical burn on the scalp. But Kelly uses special hair oil to protect the scalp, which is very important!! She also knows how to prevent hair from getting yellow after a few washes. Kelly shared a lot of tips on maintaining hair color. I love this silky dreamy blue. She's a pro!
