Blue Point Yoga Center
For more than 10 years, Blue Point Yoga has been a growing, thriving community. We're a part of Durham and at our heart, we're a local group of people who believe in changing lives through yoga and mindfulness. We know the power that yoga has to change lives because it's changed ours. Everyone on our team is passionate about yoga, mindfulness, and the effects yoga and meditation can have on our health and well-being.

This passion for wellness runs through everything we do, whether we're teaching classes, providing massage, answering your questions, or taking you to that next level with teacher trainings. Our team is led by our studio owners Casey Therrien and Matt Wolff. Casey received her yoga teacher training and mentorship from Blue Point Yoga's former owner and Duke Anatomy faculty member, Sara Doyle, PhD.
Services
Parking At Erwin Terrace: You can park behind the building or in the parking garage in any of the spaces that say "retail 2hr parking". You can stay longer than 2 hours if you let the parking attendant know. At Blue Point, we believe that everyone can benefit from yoga, and we are committed to making yoga accessible to everyone.
We do not accept teaching applications from anyone who has not visited our studio as a student to see what we are about and whether we are a good fit for your style. If you are interested in teaching at BPY, please attend class, then send a resume and contact info for references to info@bluepointyoga.com.
As we age, it becomes more and more important to build strength and flexibility in order to maintain healthy joints and bones. We can't stop the aging process, but we can manage many aspects of it. A regular yoga practice can build and maintain your strength, flexibility and balance - all critical aspects to wellness at any age.
Sara (CD(DONA), ICCE) has been interested in birth since her own daughter was born 23 years ago. She loves working with pregnant people and being present for the life transition of birth. Having continuous support during labor has positive outcomes for families, including a greater satisfaction with the birth experience.
Prenatal yoga can be practiced throughout pregnancy. Yoga helps to strengthen the body in preparation for birth. It also provides the pregnant individual with breathing and focusing exercises that will help during labor. Pregnancy is about connection - the connection between your baby and yourself, yourself and your body, and the connection between all the members of your family.

I can’t say enough good things about Blue Point Yoga! Front desk staff are great, teachers are wonderful, and there’s a class for everyone! It’s disappointing to see some of the bad reviews from years ago because that has never been my experience and I’ve been a client for years; so don’t let a couple of bad apples throw you for a loop - you won’t find a better, more affordable place to practice in Durham then here!

Fantastic environment - everyone is so kind and it is very convenient to stop by for yoga 12-1 on weekdays from my nearby work. The practices are great for building strength and flexibility and there are modifications offered to make exercises more or less challenging. Love this place! All the folks that work there are awesome!

If you're looking for prenatal yoga, you have to try Blue Point. I attended as many classes as I could during my third trimester because the gentle stretching and relaxation had such a positive effect on me. Andrea and Abby are both excellent instructors with their own unique approaches. Doing prenatal yoga helped ease my hip and lower back pain, and also helped me emotionally to let go of stress and anxiety.

I only wish they offered more classes! I preferred the Geer Street studio location because it's so beautiful, but I only made it to one class there because it's offered at

Nice people. Two locations. Asana instruction mostly 3, some 4 stars (just ok). Level 2 Vinyasa Flow more like Power Yoga light. Meditative quality 2 stars. No music with any class, per policy. Instructor training program. Bodywork packages offered. Very affordable membership. Good yin and restorative classes.

I wasn't much of a "yoga person," but this place is super legit. I hurt my back lifting weights, and after trying PT, quack chiropracty, and plenty of stretching, nothing helped until I found the Saturday yoga for a healthy back class and the Sunday restorative class. Great stuff.

This studio is the first I've encountered in a long time that treats their employees - both teachers and front desk staff - with incredible respect. All teachers are paid as employees, not freelancers, and are paid regardless of how many students show up. Teachers are not punished for having lives - family commitments, continuing educational studies, babies, vacations, etc. The atmosphere of the studio is non-competitive, supportive, and friendly. Sara Doyle, the owner, is also a professor of Anatomy at Duke University. To someone who values alignment and injury prevention above all else, it has

Both locations of this studio have great classes. The front desk workers are always friendly and welcoming. I loved the prenatal classes while I was pregnant. It's also super helpful that they have some classes that are an hour in case you don't have much time, but want to fit some yoga in.

Went to an excellent Yoga 101 class the other day. Great teacher who was very warm and friendly as well as informative. Nice guy working the front desk, and a beautiful, bright, clean studio. Would definitely go back again!

Blue Point is the first studio I have practiced regularly at, and I love it! I've been there for over a almost 2 years now and go at least twice a week, but often three or four times, making the $89 unlimited monthly pass well worth it. I love the variety of classes and teachers there. I've had some teachers there whose styles weren't for me, but for I like having the range of classes and teacher personalities. Here's my reviews of current classes I've taken.

The teachers here are very knowledgeable and there is a variety of classes offered. I love the workshops and special classes offered. I appreciate that they don't play music during their classes. It's great to be a part of this community.

One of the best studios in Durham and so pleased that they opened a second location downtown. I've taken classes with Sara Doyle, Jacqueline Johnson, and Linda Martinez. They all are expert teachers with a command of alignment principles. Highly recommended!

I joined Blue Point yoga when the new location opened just minutes from my house and it has turned out to be such a blessing! The yoga that is taught here is the soul soothing, energy healing, breath strengthening kind of practice that is so often missing from trendy hot flow focused studios. The teachers are all really unique with their own styles, so you can get a super intense difficult class (Jess McGovern Thursday 5:30 Geer St) or a completely relaxing restorative class (Scott Campbell Sunday 5:30 Erwin Sq) or a super technique driven class with the kind of alignment cues that forever change

Rude! On thanksgiving day, my fiance and I decided to start the day with some yoga. I am a yoga instructor in new york and enjoy visiting different yoga studios. We were visiting my fiance's hometown for the holiday. We walked in the door to this studio, said happy thanksgiving, and the woman at the desk responded "hello, are you locals?" When we stated that we were visiting family for the holidays and that my fiance had grown up in durham, we were told we could not receive the new student special promotion because it was "only for locals." On thanksgiving no less!!! I practice a lot of yoga in

Been practicing yoga for almost 15 years at different studios in Southwest and California, and tried a couple of studios in NC, but couldn't find one that met what I was used to. I was so thrilled to discover Blue Point yoga -it's a hidden gem!!! I recommend them if you want a genuine yoga experience that is focused on connecting you to your body and breath, without distracting 'bell and whistles' that take you completely out of your body. The instructors are very well informed about anatomy and offer modifications for every level, from beginners to advanced. I also appreciate

Overall - a good (not great) yoga studio - very close to duke campus off erwin rd. i took advantage of their really great new student intro price of 21 days for $21. during this time, i took 3 classes - 2 of them were really good (same instructor both times), 1 was not (different instructor). the studio space itself is ok - all 3 times i was there, the floor coulda used a good sweep before class. also - due to its store-front location there is some road & foot traffic noise that can be distracting. medium lulu ratio (# of students clad in lululemon gear vs # of students not).

I had my first yoga experience here & I absolutely loved it! I mean I couldn't have asked for a more supportive and leading yoga instructor. She just knew what to say and do to direct me in the right direction but still letting me know that I and my body knew best if I felt otherwise.. The atmosphere is very calm & serene. The appointment booking was easy and not drawn out or a hassle. I have definitely done myself a favor, by buying a package.

One of my favorite yoga spots in the Triangle.

I go to Blue Point at least once a week, mainly because it's close to my work and you can easily find free parking behind the building. All the instructors are super nice and willing to help you by giving alternative moves or explaining step by step on how to enter a pose especially side crow. I also like the special event classes they offer such as yoga and wine tasting and for Valentines Day, we participated in partner yoga with chocolates and wine. Yum!

I've attended about 6 prenatal yoga classes at Blue Point Yoga and have been very pleased. The first class you attend is free. I've experienced four different instructors in the classes I've been to (there have been subs for the regular instructors a couple times), which I have actually enjoyed since each instructor brings her own style and knowledge to the class. I only wish there were another prenatal class on the weekend, maybe on Saturday!

One thing I find somewhat unusual is that there are no mirrors in the studios. I am accustomed to being able to use a mirror to check my

I was pretty excited to explore the yoga scene in Durham. Walking in, the place looked really nice but people weren't too friendly but oh well. I'm used to yoga studios being serene and quiet as you walk, time for some inner reflection. But it was pretty disappointing when the instructor has social conversations with the students before class starts.

Starting a class with announcements also I think kind of threw off my zen a little bit. As a yoga business, I think the announcements can be kept to a minimal. The announcements took like 5 to 10 minutes of class time. It's finally

I've been practicing here for about 2 years and I really enjoy the morning classes especially with Linda on Tuesday and Thursday. It's a nice blend of vinyasa flow, Iyengar elements and core strength. I've recently have fallen in love with the yin yoga classes which incorporate deep connective tissue stretching and restorative poses. Give them a try - first class is free!

Amazing Yoga place! Totally the best in Durham. Wonderful location next to West Campus, close to Fuqua, Law, Pratt and Sanford schools. All teachers have very high level and tons of experience. My favourite teacher is Beth (Sunday 3 pm) and Alan (Wednesday 9.30 am).

I love the teachers and get a lot out of the class. I live near 9th street and try to do yoga/pilates 2-3 times a week, and I usually come to blue point. However, it can be pretty expensive, especially considering I can take yoga classes for free at school.
Pros:
- calm/serene space
- GREAT teachers
- extensive and varied class schedule
- easy to get to and nice location
- free parking

Cons:
- the floor length window looking onto Erwin Rd is awkward when you're in the Plow Pose
- expensive

If you live in Durham, and don't have a membership to the Y, Blue Point is excellent. If, however

Blue Point has some really excellent teachers and a pretty extensive schedule. It's located in a complex that looks a little prefab, but the inside is open, light, and clean, so don't let the outside make you feel put off.

Their online check-in system is convenient and well thought out, and you can tell they cater to the tech savvy, busy Durham crowd. I have to say that the classes I've been to were pretty diversely populated, but definitely more female heavy.

The one thing I would look out for is that their packages expire very quickly. I bought a 5 package deal that expired
