Services
Pilates is a series of exercises developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s. These exercises are performed on mats and on equipment ( the Reformer, the Cadillac or Tower, the Chair and the Barrel ) with the goal of strengthening the core of the body, lengthening the spine, building muscle tone, and increasing flexibility, all while eliminating excess tension and strain on the joints.
Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness. If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old; if it is completely flexible at 60, you are young. He understood that he was fifty years ahead of his time. And today, almost 70 years later, the program he developed is stronger than ever, having reached a world-wide audience and a following of folks from early teens to late 70s.
PRIVATE SESSIONS: It is recommended that you start out with private sessions, working with the instructor one on one. This allows you to learn the movements on the equipment and allows the instructor to evaluate your movement, injuries, and skill level to create a program just for you. Private sessions are 55 minutes long.

I've had really mixed experiences here. Sometimes I turn up and have a great session and the trainers are really helpful and attentive but quite often you are ignored when you turn up or the trainers are stressed and are visibly annoyed that so many people have been booked at the same time. Classes are only tailored to the individual some of the time as far as I can tell...
It's also next to impossible to get through to book any classes over the phone.
For the amount of money I'm paying for the classes I expected a lot more.

I absolutely love Pilates Central. Beautiful, peaceful environment, amazing very experienced and friendly staff that have profound knowledge of the bodies. As a local physiotherapist I refer a lot of my patients for rehabilitation purposes, but I am a new regular user of the studio myself. I grade it as the best Pilates studio in Islington because of the experienced staff!!
