Services
Integral Pilates was founded by Rachel Prabhakar in 2009. We offer Pilates and Alexander Technique teaching with a focus on finding the joy in movement. We love to educate our clients about how our bodies work, while providing a warm, friendly, supportive environment. We welcome people of all ages, sizes, shapes, and abilities.
We teach Pilates and the Alexander Technique with meticulous attention to meeting the needs of each individual student. To focus on providing the highest quality, individual attention, we offer private sessions. Private sessions can include Pilates, hands-on Alexander Technique work, or a combination of the two.
The Pilates method is a system of conditioning for the mind and body based on the work of movement pioneer Joseph Pilates (1880-1967). Pilates had some key insights into movement and posture. He believed that movement should flow from a strong core, and emphasized the importance of breathing, concentration, control, precision, and flowing movement.
The Alexander Technique is a method for expanding our awareness of how we are using ourselves, so that we can choose a less habitual path, so that we can interact more fittingly with our environment and whatever it is we want to do. We all tend to use ourselves according to certain habitual patterns.
We are planning to run it again in the future. Our goal is to increase our body awareness, and join that awareness with a bit of anatomical knowledge. We will be discovering good alignment by sensing how it feels from the inside rather than how it looks from the outside. This approach helps us take our technique to the next level so that we can dance with more grace and ease, while reducing our risk of injury.

I have been working with Rachel for two or three years. I now live outside of the country and my trips home are planned to ensure I can have time with her. Rachel is an amazing instructor. She is kind, thoughtful, incredibly knowledgeable and wonderful to work with. She can adapt to any needs of her clients and will research any ailments or issues that her clients have to ensure she is providing the best service. I always leave her studio feeling I have both worked my muscles hard as well as improved my overall health and well-being. I have been doing pilates for over 8 years and Rachel is by far

Superb. I'm rebuilding my strength post serious illness. Rachel is extremely attentive, skilled and knowledgable. She is very careful to prescribe exercises that are right for me and my pace. Each visit she gently moves me ahead with new challenges that I can handle. I appreciate that she is also trained in the Alexander Technique as body alignment is an area of focus for me. She clearly explains the technique for each exercise and carefully observes me to make sure I am doing them right. She makes excellent little stick figure drawings with instructions that help me remember my program

Great post-partum exercise sessions (with my 2-month-old baby)!
After two kids, I'm out-of-shape, overweight, and have abs of jello -- so I arranged 6 private sessions with Rachel, where I bring my baby. The first session, per my request, she helped build me a core-strengthening routine that I can do on my own when I have a few minutes (without any special equipment). I just finished my 2nd lesson -- using the "reformer" pilates machine -- to do more specific exercises, and it felt great.
I really like Rachel's hands-on approach. She physically lays-on hands to guide me
