Shakti Yoga & Living Arts
A direct hyperlink to the Zoom meeting, is in each class description in the schedule above. Love was born first, the gods cannot reach it, nor the spirits, nor humans. Far as heaven and earth extend, far as the waters go, high as the fire burns, you are greater love! You are greater than them all love!

Love is not a matter of getting connected; it is a matter of seeing that we already are connected within an intricate web of relationships that extends throughout life. It is a realization of "no boundaries" - that we are all made of the same essence, riding through time on the same planet, faced with the same problems, hopes and fears.
Services
Shakti Yoga & living arts is a center dedicated to the art of living well. Shakti is a Sanskrit word (as is yoga), which means energy or power, or that which is manifest (all things with form). Yoga means union: union of body, mind, soul; as well as union of individual with All. Our vision at Shakti is to offer programs that honor the diversity in all, and encourage awareness of the underlying unity within.
Shakti is located at 1861 Springfield Avenue in Maplewood. We're one block down from Prospect, at Yale, in-between Papa John's Pizza and HLS Juice Bar and Cafe. Come down Millburn Avenue to where it ends at Springfield Avenue and make that left onto Springfield Avenue. Shakti is a 1/2 mile down on the right-hand side.
Come move your body and enjoy meeting other mamas-to-be in a nurturing and supportive space. Prenatal classes are specially modified for women in any stage of pregnancy. We begin with a guided Pranayama (breath work) meditation to experience the nourishing and calming benefits of breathing for two.
You will see the Zoom Meeting ID in the subject of the email you receive when you register, also in the body of the email. Yoga is beneficial for all of the systems of the body, but particularly the nervous and endocrine systems, both of which are in transition during the teenage years. The nervous system of today's teens are particularly stressed as they are constantly "on, " with all the electronic multitasking and screen time.
Yoga means union, of body, mind, soul and individual with All. It is both the path & the goal. It is not a religion, but a philosophy and a practice. Whatever your belief system or religious affilation, yoga can and will enhance the depth of your understanding and experience of that. Chosen primarily by those of an outgoing nature, this path purifies the heart by teaching us to act selflessly, without thought of gain or reward.

Solid expertise, gentleness, excellent results, & Anna laughed at my jokes. I look forward to at least two follow-up sessions.
I went for Iyengar Yoga to help heal from a bad fall. I'm still feeling some pain after 6 months, have lost height, and am stooped. Her treatment helped me stand up straight, decreased the pain, and I slept through the night with no sleep aids for the first time in many months.

Got a 90-minute Therapeutic Integrated Massage here by Anna recently. I like deep pressure massages, and she really delivered on this request. The massage also includes some stretching/mobility work. I felt like a million bucks after! Will definitely come back for another massage in a few months.

Unfortunately my only two encounters with this yoga studio have been awful. Kathleen, I'm not sure what her name is. She was in the studio this evening before closing. Has been aggressive and disrespectful. She has been nothing but rude anytime we spoke. Her energy is extremely hostile. I came to the studio before closing with a question and during our conversation she slammed the door in face. Her attitude is horrible.

The instructor created a beautiful gentle yet challenging class that was perfectly tailored to wake the body up in the morning. She had excellent breathe and movement cues and she also noticed when I needed special instruction even tho we were on zoom. Meghan is so sweet and joyful to practice with! I will definitely take her class again!

Even when practicing on Zoom it's easy to tell that the teachers at Shakti aren't typical yoga instructors. Nowhere else will you find a greater combination of empathy and knowledge. I've seen students as old as 90 and as young as tweens in their classes, and it's easy to find a class that matches one's level - from experienced, beginner and in between - and even classes that are comfortably mixed. I began my practice at Shakti more than ten years ago. After about two weeks I noticed a difference. But at first the changes were mental, not physical. The physical was soon

I love this studio, the calm and the energy, and the clases, which range from beginner level to highly challenging. I have been practicing for decades and all over the country. Shakti has an oasis feel amidst the hectic feel of life around here, and feels more peaceful, mindful about fostering this atmosphere than some of the larger, more marketed studios in the NY Metro Area. It reminds me of some of the studios I loved out west.

Anna and her wonderful cadre of teachers love teaching and living yoga. Also some super great programs, from pre/post natal, family classes, holistic healing. I look

I've been going to Shakti for more than seven years. It is a wonderful, welcoming space with top notch-teachers. Emily's alignment class is my favorite and Ana's class is great if you like a faster-paced, challenging class. And the Sunday evening community Kundalini class left me feeling like a new person. Really.

Great little yoga studio for Maplewood residents. Instructors are very knowledgeable and helpful. They take the time to learn your name and make personalized recommendations to improve your individual practice no matter what level you're at. Ana in particular is a spectacular instructor.

Prices are crazy high however--comparable to other true yoga studios, I admit--but for a young professional, I would never have been able to afford going here if I hadn't found a Groupon for my first 20 classes.

Madalina was awesome! I was introduced to her through Shakti Yoga's website. I love the fact that I didn't have to travel to NYC for a "spring cleaning". Madalina is extremely professional, dedicated, patient and highly trained in Reiki so you won't be disappointed.

P.S. Madalina offers package deals on her website, if you don't purchase the deal during your service/visit (paid in full) your SOL ( I was surprised but I guess that's why its labeled a deal).
